Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam referred to the Deshaun Watson trade as ‘a big swing and miss’ at the NFL’s annual league meeting.

Watson hopes to get a chance to prove Haslam wrong at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Watson narrated his thoughts about his future over a workout video posted to Instagram. The reel showed the Browns quarterback working to rehab a twice-torn right Achilles that is expected to keep him out for most – if not all – of the 2025 NFL season.

‘Everyone is doubting me,’ Watson said. ‘Everyone don’t believe in me. Everyone don’t think I can get back to where I was. But I know, and I believe the work that I put in, that I believe in myself. The peace that I’ve been channeling the last couple of months. I know I’m gonna be way better than before.’

Watson has played just 19 games for the Browns since being acquired from the Houston Texans in a 2022 trade and signing a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract. He has posted a 9-10 record across his starts while completing just 61.2% of his passes for 3,365 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Watson has been plagued by injuries but has yet to come close to the performance he demonstrated early in his career with the Texans. He posted a 104.5 passer rating across his four seasons in Houston; his overall rating has declined to 80.7 across his three years in Cleveland.

Watson’s struggles and injuries have left the Browns seeking alternatives at the quarterback position. They traded for 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett during the offseason and are widely expected to select another quarterback early in the 2025 NFL draft.

Despite his shaky standing, Watson – 30 in September – is looking forward to rebounding and proving himself when he returns to the field.

‘You know, the performance comes when your back is against the wall,’ Watson said. ‘It comes better because you really gotta lock in. You don’t have anything pretty much to lose. And I feel like that’s where I’m at right now.’

Since turning pro in 1998, the 44-year-old has racked up wins on the PGA Tour and European Tour, a run highlighted by a victory at the U.S. Open in 2013.

Could this be the year, nearly three decades into his professional career, that the Englishman finally wins the Masters?

Rose put himself in a strong early position to leave Augusta National Golf Club Sunday with a green jacket draped around him, firing a 7-under 65 in the first round of The Masters Thursday that placed him atop the leaderboard.

Though he has never won the famed tournament, Rose has been close in the past, finishing in second place in 2015 and 2017. Whether he’s able to manage the feat this season remains an open question, but he’s off to an exceptional start.

Here’s a look at Rose’s scorecard from the first round at the 2025 Masters Thursday:

For all those victories, though, a spot atop the leaderboard at the end of The Masters has proven to be elusive for the Northern Ireland native. The 35 year old has won two PGA Championships, one U.S. Open and one British Open, but he has never donned the famed green jacket on a picturesque late Sunday afternoon at Augusta National Golf Club.

Will this year be the year he finally breaks through?

McIlroy has gotten close at The Masters before, finishing second in 2022 and, more famously, holding a four-shot lead on the final day of competition in 2011 before shooting an 8-over 80 on Sunday to finish in tie for 15th.

As he looks to win The Masters for the first time ever, here’s a look at how McIlory fared in the tournament’s first round on Thursday:

Scottie Scheffler has a chance at history in 2025 as he looks to become the fourth golfer to ever win back-to-back Masters Tournaments.

A win this weekend would mark his third green jacket win in four years, which would make him one of nine golfers to ever win the Masters three times.

Everyone knows in order to compete for a Masters win, golfers must have strong first- and second-round performances to put themselves in position to win on Saturday and Sunday. That’s especially true given the Masters’ harsher cut line than normal PGA Tour events.

Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, has 13 career PGA Tour wins at 28 years old, and is among the favorites to win the Masters again.

Here’s how Scheffler scored through the first 18 holes on Thursday at Augusta National:

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink is stepping down, the State Department confirmed Thursday, as the Trump administration ramps up its efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Tammy Bruce, a State Department spokesperson, said Brink would be leaving her role, though she didn’t give a specific departure date.

The news comes at a critical moment for U.S. foreign policy as officials work to ease tensions and end the grinding war in Eastern Europe.

Brink, a career diplomat with decades of experience, was nominated by then-President Joe Biden and unanimously confirmed by the Senate in May 2022, just months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

She became the first U.S. ambassador to serve in Kyiv since 2019, helping reestablish America’s diplomatic presence after embassy staff were evacuated in the early days of the war.

Before serving in Ukraine, Brink was the U.S. ambassador to Slovakia and worked in top roles at the National Security Council. She speaks Russian and is known for strongly defending U.S. interests in Eastern Europe.

While in Ukraine, Brink was a vocal supporter of American military aid and often appeared publicly with Ukrainian leaders. Her resignation comes as the Trump administration shifts focus toward ending the war through diplomacy and renewed talks with Russia.

Also on Thursday, U.S. and Russian officials held rare face-to-face talks in Istanbul aimed at repairing long-strained diplomatic relations. The State Department said the two sides exchanged formal notes to finalize an agreement that would stabilize banking services for each country’s embassies, a step seen as key to keeping diplomatic missions operational.

In recent years, both countries have imposed financial restrictions on each other’s embassies and slashed staffing due to the fallout from the war. A finalized banking deal could open the door to restoring some of those lost diplomatic connections.

The State Department said follow-up talks are expected, though no date has been set.

Brink’s departure lands at a moment of major transition in U.S. foreign policy. Her exit may also clear the way for a new ambassador more closely aligned with the Trump administration’s push for a ceasefire deal.

The State Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The WNBA draft is one of the biggest nights for the league, with college basketball and international superstars taking their first steps into the pro game.

The Dallas Wings are first on the clock after winning the draft lottery despite holding just a 22.7% chance of being granted the first pick. The Wings, who finished 9-31 last season, are widely expected to select guard Paige Bueckers, who capped off a stellar collegiate career at UConn by guiding the Huskies to a national championship on Sunday.

The first round alone features plenty of points of intrigue. The Washington Mystics hold three of the first six selections, giving a team in need of an overhaul a chance to kickstart a new era. The Golden State Valkyries, who will debut as an expansion team this season, are currently set to make their first-ever draft pick with the No. 5 selection in the first round.

Here is how to watch the 2025 WNBA draft, including time, date, location, and draft order:

When is WNBA draft?

The 2025 WNBA draft will be held on Monday, April 14. All 13 teams, including the expansion Golden State Valkyries, will navigate three rounds of picks, with major trades and high drama a near certainty.

Where will 2025 WNBA draft be held?

The WNBA draft will be held at the Shed, a cultural center and exhibition space in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards neighborhood of New York.

Gary Player mentioned Rory McIlroy’s recent meeting with Jack Nicklaus in passing at his 2025 Masters news conference Thursday morning, and only after first pointing out how impressive it is to him that McIlroy can deadlift 400 pounds.

“He went to Jack for advice on how to play this golf course,” Player told reporters at Augusta National Golf Club. “Nobody knows better than Jack.”

Nicklaus, the winner of a record 18 majors and six green jackets at The Masters, was seated just a few feet away from Player, with Tom Watson in between them on the dais. The three men who serve as honorary starters at golf’s first major were together again at the first tee to officially begin the 2025 Masters, and McIlroy was on their mind when they spoke to reporters about the state of the game before McIlroy began his first round.

Masters 2025: What Jack Nicklaus told Rory McIlroy last week

Nicklaus, in light of Player’s revelation, offered the most interesting insight into McIlroy’s approach heading into this week’s tournament.

“I sat down with Rory last week and we had lunch and we were talking,” Nicklaus began, “and I said, ‘Rory, I know you prepared for Augusta. Tell me how you’re going to play the golf course.’ And we went through it shot-for-shot. He got done with the round, I didn’t open my mouth, and I said, ‘I wouldn’t change a thing. That’s exactly the way I would try to play the golf course.’ ”

McIlroy has never won The Masters and he hasn’t won a major since 2014. He had a career-best second-place finish at Augusta National in 2022, but he notably blew a four-shot final round lead at the 2011 Masters. McIlroy’s drought is a topic of conversation he can’t avoid at this point given his place in the game, and that includes with Nicklaus.

“The discipline is what Rory has lacked, in my opinion,” said Nicklaus. “He’s got all the shots. He’s got all the game. He’s certainly as talented as anybody in the game. But if you go back in his history the last few years, he gets to a place a lot of times an eight or a seven pops up, and that keeps him from getting to where he needs to go. I’m a big fan of Rory’s and I like Rory a lot.”

Masters 2025 predictions: Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Tom Watson picks

Nicklaus, Player and Watson all said they want McIlroy to win his first green jacket and become the sixth person to complete golf’s grand slam. They each predicted McIlroy to win this year, but for different reasons.

“I think Rory McIlory will win The Masters and I hope he does because it would give golf a great boost to have another winner of the grand slam,” Player said. “… He’s had opportunities to win majors and let them slip. I think his time is right. I think it’s just the right time frame for him to win now and there’s no course that suits a man better than it does for Rory.”

“I just have a gut feeling Rory’s the guy that’s going to win this week,” added Watson.

“Ditto,” said Nicklaus.

The final weekend of the 2024-25 NBA regular season is looming, as teams launch their final pushes for playoff seeding.

And while the No. 1 seeds in the respective conferences are locked in — with the Oklahoma City Thunder rolling out West and the Cleveland Cavaliers clinching the East — the standings could otherwise see plenty of movement in the final stretch.

Nowhere is that more evident than in the middle of the Western Conference, where one game separates the No. 3 team from the No. 7 team — and where two games separate the No. 3 from the No. 8.

With each team still having three games left, here are the NBA standings at the end of the regular season and the current projection for this year’s playoff bracket:

Latest NBA playoff standings

The top six teams in each conference automatically make the playoffs. Teams in positions 7-10 qualify for the play-in tournament.

Eastern Conference

(c): Team has clinched conference. (x): Team has clinched playoff spot. (pi): Team has clinched play-in spot. (o): Team eliminated from playoff contention.

Western Conference

(c): Team has clinched conference. (x): Team has clinched playoff spot. (pi): Team has clinched play-in spot. (o): Team eliminated from playoff contention.

NBA Eastern Conference playoff bracket

Here’s how the first round of the playoffs would shake out in the East if the season ended after Thursday.

No. 1 seed Cleveland Cavaliers vs. No. 8 seed (winner of the Play-In Tournament)
No. 2 seed Boston Celtics vs. No. 7 seed (first runner-up of the Play-In Tournament)
No. 3 seed New York Knicks vs. No. 6 seed Detroit Pistons
No. 4 seed Indiana Pacers vs. No. 5 seed Milwaukee Bucks

NBA Western Conference playoff bracket

Here’s how the matchups look with the current standings in the Western Conference.

No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder vs. No. 8 seed (winner of the Play-In Tournament)
No. 2 seed Houston Rockets vs. No. 7 seed (first runner-up of the Play-In Tournament)
No. 3 seed Los Angeles Lakers vs. No. 6 seed Memphis Grizzlies
No. 4 seed Denver Nuggets vs. No. 5 seed Los Angeles Clippers

What is the NBA Play-In Tournament?

The NBA Play-In Tournament was implemented for the 2021 playoffs and allows each conference to expand its potential playoff field from eight teams to 10. The seventh- through 10th-ranked teams in each conference at the end of the regular season compete in a three-day tournament to decide the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds in the first round of the playoffs.

In one set of games, the seventh-place team for each conference hosts the eighth-place finisher. The winners in each conference get the No. 7 seed in their brackets.

On the other side of the respective brackets, the ninth-ranked team in each conference hosts the 10th-place team. The winners of those games play the losers of the seventh place vs. eighth place matchups to determine the No. 8 seed in their respective conferences.

This year, the play-in tournament begins April 15 and concludes April 18. The first round of the NBA playoffs begins April 19.

NBA Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament matchup

If the season ended today, here’s the projected structure of the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament:

Seventh-place Orlando Magic vs. eighth-place Atlanta Hawks

Winner faces No. 2 seed Boston Celtics
Loser will play in second round of Play-In Tournament

Ninth-place Chicago Bulls vs. 10th-place Miami Heat

Winner plays in second round of Play-In Tournament
Loser eliminated

NBA Western Conference Play-In Tournament matchup

If the season ended today, here’s the projected structure of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament:

Seventh-place Golden State Warriors vs. eighth-place Minnesota Timberwolves

Winner faces No. 2 seed Houston Rockets
Loser will play in second round of Play-In Tournament

Ninth-place Sacramento Kings vs. 10th-place Dallas Mavericks

Winner plays in second round of Play-In Tournament
Loser eliminated

When do the 2025 NBA Playoffs start?

The first round of the NBA playoffs begins Saturday, April 19.

Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals is scheduled for Thursday, June 5.

Creighton basketball is reportedly hiring former assistant Alan Huss as its coach in waiting, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

Huss served as an assistant under Bluejays coach Greg McDermott from 2017-23 before taking over at High Point in 2023. He took the Panthers to their first men’s NCAA Tournament in his second season at the helm.

The reports do not indicate or suggest McDermott is planning to step down, but that the move is meant to ease the transition away from the longtime coach, who has coached in some capacity since 1989 and who has been a head coach at the Division I level since 2000.

Huss, 46, is also a Creighton alum, having played there from 1997-2001 alongside future NBA All-Star Kyle Korver. Huss started 38 career games for his alma mater and made three NCAA Tournament appearances under then-coach Dana Altman, who’s now at Oregon.

Huss had previously agreed to a contract extension at High Point on March 6 after becoming the fastest coach to reach 50 wins in Big South history, also winning the conference to earn a spot in the 68-team bracket for the first time in program history. The Panthers were a 13 seed and fell to 4 seed Purdue, 75-63, in the first round.

McDermott has helped build Creighton into one of the most consistent college basketball programs, as the Bluejays have made five consecutive NCAA Tournaments with trips to the Elite Eight in 2023 and Sweet 16 in 2021 and 2024. Creighton won its first-round game against Louisville in 2025 before falling to Auburn in the second round.

Creighton is losing All-American Ryan Kalkbrenner and senior point guard Richie Ashworth next season due to running out of eligibility, along with dynamic guard Pop Isaacs, who’s transferring to Houston.

Rarely does the home team crowd want the visiting team to win.

But rarely does a team trade a generational star – a revered star at that – entering his prime, infuriating a fanbase and invoking vitriol toward ownership and the front office led by general manager Nico Harrison.

It was one of the most surprising and controversial trades in league history.

With fans wearing new Doncic Lakers jerseys and old Doncic Mavs jerseys, rooting for him and chanting “Fire Nico,” the 26-year-old Slovenian star put on a special performance. Doncic scored a game-high 45 points in the Lakers’ 112-97 victory against the Mavericks.

Mavericks welcome Luka Doncic with wonderful tribute

The Mavericks may have botched trading Doncic. They didn’t botch his first return to Dallas as a member of the Lakers. The gameday operations staff handled Doncic’s visit with class.

During pregame introductions of the starting five, the team played a tribute video on Doncic’s finest moments with the Mavericks.

The gesture moved Doncic to tears. He was acquired by the Mavs on draft night, spent the first six-plus years of his career there and was named to five All-NBA teams with the Mavs. He also helped Dallas to an NBA Finals appearance last season.

“Obviously, he meant a lot to Dallas, and Dallas meant a lot to him,” Lakers coach JJ Redick told ESPN during a between-quarters interview.

Not that Mavs fans needed a reminder of what they no longer have, but Doncic reminded them anyway.

How many points did Luka Doncic score against the Mavs?

Doncic lit up the Mavericks, scoring 45 points on 16-for-28 shooting (7-for-10 on 3-pointers), grabbing eight rebounds, delivering six assists and collecting four steals.

He was on fire from the start. He made his first shot and ended the first quarter with 14 points. Doncic was even better in the second quarter, scoring 17 points and missing just one of his seven attempts from the field and making all three of his 3-point attempts. He had 31 points on 11-for-16 shooting in 19 minutes in the first half, and it was the 10th 30-point half of his career.

He cooled off scoring-wise but still delivered what the Lakers needed (a win) and what fans wanted (a memorable performance).

LeBron James’ remarkable games played mark

LeBron James played in his 1,561st regular-season NBA game against Dallas, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and into second place on the league’s all-time games played list.

He trails Robert Parish (1,611 games) and barring an injury or surprising decision not to play next season, James will pass Parish and add another record to his collection in 2026.

The next-highest active player is Chris Paul (1,352 games).

The 40-year-old James, who had 27 points and seven rebounds against Dallas, is in his 22nd season. Of the 19 seasons in which an 82-game schedule was in place, James has played in at least 65 games 16 times. In the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, he played in 62 of 66 games, and in back-to-back COVID-shortened seasons in 2019-20 and 2020-21, he played in 67 of 71 games and 45 of 72 games.

He has played in 88% of his team’s regular-season games – and has never missed a playoff game.

That kind of availability along with talent has allowed James to accomplish feats few other players have – and sometimes no other player has.

Where are the Lakers in the Western Conference playoff race?

The Lakers improved to 49-31, and the victory guarantees the Lakers will make the playoffs and avoid a play-in game scenario. With a victory in one of their final two games, they can clinch the No. 3 seed and home-court advantage in at least the first round of the playoffs.

If the Lakers get the No. 3 seed, their first-round opponent is unknown. The Denver Nuggets (48-32), Los Angeles Clippers (48-32), Memphis Grizzlies (47-32) and Golden State Warriors (47-33) are fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the standings. The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the mix at 46-33.

There are no easy paths in the deep and talented West but by finishing with the No. 3 seed, the Lakers have the potential to avoid first-place Oklahoma City until the conference finals.

Where are the Mavericks in the Western Conference playoff race?

The Mavericks fell to 38-42 and remain in 10th place in the West. Dallas, which has been decimated by injuries, has secured a spot in the play-in tournament, though, after Phoenix was eliminated from playoff contention later Wednesday night with its eighth consecutive loss.

The Mavs will play the Kings in the 9-10 game, likely in Sacramento (the Kings have a 1½-game lead).

Who won the Luka Doncic trade?

Short term, there’s no question the Lakers won the trade – both on the court and in the court of public opinion. The Lakers will finish with a better record, a guaranteed spot in the playoffs and the Luka-LeBron combo creates problems for any defense. The Lakers are also in position to retain Doncic after his current contract, which allows him to become a free agent after the 2025-26 season.

For the Mavs to someday win the trade, they need to win a championship – regardless if Doncic wins one with the Lakers. That’s the gamble the Mavs took, that they are better off without Doncic.

This story has been updated with new information.
