In this video, Dave unveils his “line in the sand” technique to help determine when stocks in established uptrends may be near the end of the bullish phase. He’ll share specific levels he’s watching for the S&P 500, AMZN, TMUS, and KR, and also review three tools on the StockCharts platform you can use to monitor potential stop loss levels for stocks in your portfolio.

This video originally premiered on December 10, 2024. Watch on our dedicated David Keller page on StockCharts TV!

Previously recorded videos from Dave are available at this link.

As the year winds down, investors are beginning to position their portfolios for the New Year. I’m considering it, and perhaps you are too.

Next year, in addition to the seasonal rotations among sectors, we have a plot twist: a new administration in D.C. likely to bring disruptive policy changes affecting the market.

The Financials sector is expected to perform well under the new administration. If that’s the case, it’s worth taking a closer look at this sector and identify which stocks to watch for potential buy opportunities. If you’re already considering financial stocks and looking to fine-tune an entry before year-end, then consider those that have pulled back or are trading in a tight, low-volatility consolidation range—prime candidates for a potential bounce.

How can you spot these opportunities? One way is to use MarketCarpets’ Bollinger Band Width setting.

On Monday, I used this tool with the Latest Value setting, which provides a score between 0 to 100. The closer to zero, the narrower the BandWidth. The narrower the BandWidth, the greater the likelihood of spotting a “squeeze” leading to a significant price move or a breakout.

FIGURE 1. MARKETCARPETS BOLLINGER BAND WIDTH SET TO LATEST VALUE. It won’t be surprising if most of the big stocks on the list with the lowest value exhibit similar patterns.Image source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

If you look at the table on the right, you’ll see that the three biggest stocks with the lowest chart values are Visa (V), Mastercard (MA), and Berkshire Hathaway B shares (BRK/B). If you were to continue scrolling, the three big banks with the narrowest Bollinger Bandwidths are Bank of America (BAC), Morgan Stanley (MS), Goldman Sachs (GS), and JP Morgan Chase (JPM). For many investors, some of these shares are quite expensive. So, let’s consider that and focus on the stocks that are more relatively affordable to most readers: BAC, MS, and JPM.

Before diving into these stocks, let’s examine the sector’s breadth using a daily chart of the S&P FInancial Bullish Percent Index ($BPFINA). We’ll also compare the relative performance of the Invesco KBW Bank ETF (KBWB) as a proxy for the large U.S. banking industry against the Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF), which represents the broader financials sector.

Sector Breadth and Relative Performance of Banks vs. Sector

The $BPFINA shows the percentage of stocks signaling Point & Figure “buy” signals. Right now, 91% of S&P financial stocks are flashing buy signals (see below).

FIGURE 1. FINANCIAL SECTOR BULLISH PERCENT INDEX. The Financial sector is bullish but potentially oversold.Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

While a BPI figure above 50% is bullish, above 70% signals that the sector is potentially overbought. On an industry level, the banking industry is outperforming broader financials by 11% and rising.

Bank of America

Let’s get to the stocks, starting with a daily chart of BAC.

FIGURE 2. DAILY CHART OF BANK OF AMERICA. Is the stock poised for a big move up or down?Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

There’s a lot here, so I’ll bullet the key points:

BAC’s technical strength, as measured by the StockChartsTechnical Rank (SCTR) is slightly declining, but at a level just below 70, it signals only slight weakness. The Bollinger BandWidth has decreased significantly, and BAC’s price is above the lower band. This doesn’t signify a squeeze as much as a low volatility pullback. But what are the chances that BAC is likely to decline further? On a relative performance scale, BAC is slightly underperforming its industry, down barely 2%.In terms of momentum, there’s a divergence between indicators: On Balance Volume (OBV) suggests high buying pressure, possibly driven by retail investors, while Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicates strong selling pressure, likely reflecting institutional activity.

BAC is one of the largest US banks, so I’d add it to my ChartList as a possible prospect for a longer-term investment. However, given the mixed technical signals, I consider this a wait-and-see moment, observing how price reacts at current levels and whether the OBV and CMF can align if BAC continues its move to the upside.

How does BAC compare with Morgan Stanley?

Morgan Stanley

Let’s take a look at a daily chart.

FIGURE 3. DAILY CHART OF MS. The stock’s performance, as measured by SCTR, is performing slightly better than BAC.Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

MS’s SCTR score, at 83, is stronger than BAC’s and close to the 90 level, which might be considered exceedingly bullish. As its Bollinger BandWidth narrows, the stock has also fallen below support, coming out of a rounding top, and looking to fill the wide gap made at the beginning of November.MS is slightly outperforming its industry peers by slightly over 3%, better than BAC’s relative performance.Selling pressure, however, is strong, and the OBV and CMF appear to align.

This appears to be a classic pullback scenario. I would add this to my ChartList, as MS is one of the biggest players in the industry, but I’d wait for a bounce and monitor a bullish reversal in both the OBV and CMF before considering a long position.

JP Morgan Chase

Finally, let’s look at the last big bank on my list: JP Morgan Chase. Below is a daily chart.

FIGURE 4. DAILY CHART OF JPM. The divergence in the OBV and CMF is something to watch carefully.Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

JPM’s SCTR score of 76 is declining, yet still relatively bullish. Its Bollinger BandWidth indication is similar to the two we just viewed. In JPM’s case, traders seem hesitant to commit to any direction as price settles right below the middle band. It’s as if they’re waiting for some indication to trigger movement in one direction or another. Regarding relative performance, JPM is barely outperforming its industry peers, by a little over 1%.Similar to the BAC example, there appears to be a potential, yet prominent divergence between retail buying and institutional selling, as the OBV has been climbing while the CMF has been steadily declining.

JPM is sitting in a near-term holding pattern. It’s going to break eventually. But for now, the market appears unable to commit to a given direction, and the mixed momentum signals seem to support this view. It’s best to monitor this on my ChartList and wait for stronger bullish signals and a definitive reversal to the upside before jumping in. In short, patience.

At the Close

Planning the coming year, I focused on a given sector (Financials) and used MarketCarpets’ Bollinger BandWidth setting to identify stocks with tight, low-volatility setups that might signal a breakout opportunity. This led me to BAC, MS, and JPM. While these stocks remain on my ChartList as longer-term prospects, I’m opting for a wait-and-see approach. Fine-tuning an entry is important. And while there are many ways you can do this, I just showed you one approach that might just come in handy given the right circumstances.

The House Task Force investigating the assassination attempts on President-elect Trump’s life has released its final report on Tuesday, detailing ‘preexisting conditions and leadership failures’ that led to the deadly campaign rally in Pennsylvania in July.

While the bipartisan panel was given ample information on that shooting, the report suggested requests for documents on the second attempt on Trump’s life – this one at his Palm Beach golf course in September – were seemingly stonewalled.

‘The Task Force notes that as of the date of publication of this report, [the Department of Homeland Security], [U.S. Secret Service], FBI, and [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] have not produced any documents responsive to the Task Force’s requests regarding the preparation for, events of, and response to the second assassination attempt that occurred on September 15,’ the report said.

Lawmakers found ‘critical vulnerabilities’ in the security of that site. The report said Secret Service agents identified the golf course’s outer perimeter as ‘a favorable position for potential snipers.’

The report also called on the Secret Service to review its protocols for golf courses – which would be a significant policy overhaul, given Trump and past presidents’ historic penchant for golfing.

Other recommendations in the 180-page report include calling on Congress to consider taking the Secret Service out from under the purview of DHS.

‘The current structure potentially weakens USSS, a small but critically important agency, in advocating for its budget and other priorities inside a much larger entity,’ the report said.

‘The failure in [Butler, Pennsylvania] was far from the first significant USSS failure in recent history, and it is fair to question whether USSS should continue to be housed within DHS.’

The Secret Service was under the Treasury Department until 2003, when it was moved to the newly formed DHS, but the task force advocated for it to be its own structure entirely.

‘A fresh look at whether USSS might benefit from the status of an independent agency, with more freedom to make budget requests and advocate for itself, would be a healthy discussion for former USSS leaders to have with Congress,’ the report said.

The Task Force also recommended conserving resources by limiting who gets Secret Service protection.

‘The number of individuals being protected has greatly expanded, a resource demand which becomes further taxed during the longer and more intensive modern presidential campaign seasons,’ the report said.

Foreign dignitaries’ Secret Service protection particularly strains resources during the United Nations General Assembly, the report said. That takes place in September, the same month of the second attempt on Trump’s life.

‘As a result, Congress, DHS, and the USSS should jointly consider the protective role the USSS plays for foreign leaders and consider whether such duties can be transferred or abrogated in order to focus on the USSS’s primary duty: to protect the President and other critical U.S. leaders,’ the report said.

The House voted unanimously to form the committee earlier this year. The Secret Service was barraged with scrutiny after a 20-year-old gunman opened fire on Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania from just outside the rally perimeter.

Trump was injured along with two others, and one attendee was killed.

Later in September, USSS agents opened fire on a 58-year-old man who had a rifle aimed at Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida, golf course where the president-elect was out for the day.

The task force contrasted both events in its report, however, and cast the latter incident in a better light.

‘The various failures in planning, execution, and leadership on and before July 13, 2024, and the preexisting conditions that undermined the effectiveness of the human and material assets deployed that day, coalesced to create an environment in which the former President — and everyone at the campaign event — were exposed to grave danger,’ the report said.

‘Conversely, the events that transpired on September 15, 2024, in West Palm Beach, Florida, demonstrated how properly executed protective measures can foil an attempted assassination.’

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told Fox News Digital in response to the report, ‘The U.S. Secret Service appreciates the diligence and dedication displayed by Chairman Kelly, Ranking Member Crow and the distinguished members of the House Task Force as they investigated and identified the factors that contributed to the assassination attempt of President-elect Donald Trump and the Secret Service’s failures during the protective advance leading up to July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania.’

‘The findings of the House Task Force align with our internal Mission Assurance Inquiry. Today’s report reinforces our resolve to bring change to the Secret Service. We continue to take action to acquire new technologies, strengthen training, develop our personnel, and seek resources to fortify the Secret Service,’ Guglielmi said.

OpenAI said Monday it’s releasing its buzzy AI video-generation tool, Sora, later in the day.

The AI video-generation model works similarly to OpenAI’s image-generation AI tool, DALL-E: A user types out a desired scene, and Sora will return a high-definition video clip. Sora can also generate video clips inspired by still images and extend existing videos or fill in missing frames. The Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup, which burst into the mainstream last year thanks to the viral popularity of ChatGPT, introduced Sora in February.

It’ll debut to U.S. users as well as to “most countries internationally” later today, according to OpenAI’s YouTube livestream, and the company has “no timeline” yet for launching the tool in Europe and the U.K., as well as some other countries.

OpenAI said users don’t need to pay extra for the tool, which will be included in existing ChatGPT accounts such as Plus and Pro. Employees on the livestream and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman demonstrated features like “Blend” (i.e., joining two scenes together at the user’s direction), as well as the option to make an AI-generated video endlessly repeat.

Until now, Sora has mainly been available to a small group of safety testers, or “red-teamers,” who test the model for vulnerabilities in areas such as misinformation and bias.

Reddit users asked OpenAI executives in October about Sora’s release date, questioning whether it was being delayed “due to the amount of compute/time required for inference or due to safety.” In response, OpenAI’s product chief Kevin Weil wrote, “Need to perfect the model, need to get safety/impersonation/other things right, and need to scale compute!”

“We obviously have a big target on our back as OpenAI,” Rohan Sahai, OpenAI’s Sora product lead, said on the livestream, adding that the company needs to prevent illegal use of the technology. “But we also want to balance that with creative expression.”

OpenAI closed its latest funding round in October at a valuation of $157 billion, including the $6.6 billion the company raised from an extensive roster of investment firms and Big Tech companies. It also received a $4 billion revolving line of credit, bringing its total liquidity to more than $10 billion.

It’s all part of a serious growth plan for OpenAI, as the Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence startup battles Amazon-backed Anthropic, Elon Musk’s xAI, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Amazon for the biggest slice of the generative AI market, which is predicted to top $1 trillion in revenue within a decade.

Earlier this month, OpenAI hired its first chief marketing officer, indicating plans to spend more on marketing to grow its user base. And in October, OpenAI debuted a search feature within ChatGPT that positions it to better compete with search engines like Google, Microsoft’s Bing and Perplexity and may attract more users who otherwise visited those sites to search the web.

With Sora, the ChatGPT maker is looking to compete with video-generation AI tools from companies such as Meta and Google, which announced Lumiere in January. Similar AI tools are available from other startups, such as Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion. Amazon has also released Create with Alexa, a model that specializes in generating prompt-based short-form animated children’s content.

Video could be the next frontier for generative AI now that chatbots and image generators have made their way into the consumer and business world. While the creative opportunities will excite some AI enthusiasts, the new technologies present serious misinformation concerns as major political elections occur across the globe. The number of AI-generated deepfakes created has increased 900% year over year, according to data from Clarity, a machine learning firm.

OpenAI has made multimodality — the combining of text, image and video generation — a prominent goal in its effort to offer a broader suite of AI models.

News of Sora’s release follows protestors’ decision to leak what appeared to be a copy of Sora over concerns about the ChatGPT maker’s treatment of artists.

Some members of OpenAI’s early access program for Sora, which it said included about 300 artists, published an open letter in late November critiquing OpenAI for not being sufficiently open or supporting the arts beyond marketing.

“Dear corporate AI overlords,” the protestors’ open letter stated, “We received access to Sora with the promise to be early testers, red teamers and creative partners. However, we believe instead we are being lured into ‘art washing’ to tell the world that Sora is a useful tool for artists.”

The letter added that hundreds of artists provided unpaid labor for OpenAI through bug testing and feedback on Sora, and that “while hundreds contribute for free, a select few will be chosen through a competition to have their Sora-created films screened — offering minimal compensation which pales in comparison to the substantial PR and marketing value OpenAI receives.”

“We are not against the use of AI technology as a tool for the arts (if we were, we probably wouldn’t have been invited to this program),” the open letter stated. “What we don’t agree with is how this artist program has been rolled out and how the tool is shaping up ahead of a possible public release. We are sharing this to the world in the hopes that OpenAI becomes more open, more artist friendly and supports the arts beyond PR stunts.”

In late November, an OpenAI spokesperson responded to the protestors’ actions in a statement to CNBC.

“Hundreds of artists in our alpha have shaped Sora’s development, helping prioritize new features and safeguards,” the OpenAI spokesperson said at the time. “Participation is voluntary, with no obligation to provide feedback or use the tool. We’ve been excited to offer these artists free access and will continue supporting them through grants, events, and other programs.”

President-elect Trump’s assistant Natalie Harp said ‘confidentiality, speed, accuracy, and adaptability’ are key to delivering for the president, as lawmakers who communicate with her regularly told Fox News Digital that she is ‘critical’ in ensuring Congress is a ‘real partner’ for the incoming administration.

Harp has worked alongside the president-elect throughout his campaign and the transition, since 2022. The 33-year-old is expected to join the president at the White House for his second term, and Trump Transition Team sources say she will have an ‘important role’ in the White House.

But according to several top lawmakers, governors and members of Trump’s team, Harp is more than just an assistant.

Sources close to the transition team told Fox News Digital that Harp has been a ‘valuable resource’ for getting information to the president ‘in a timely manner.’

Steven Cheung, spokesman for the Trump Transition Team and incoming White House communications director, told Fox News Digital that Harp is ‘a trusted and valued member of President Trump’s team.’

‘And she is certainly a big reason why his operation has been as successful as it has ever been,’ Cheung told Fox News Digital. ‘Her work ethic and dedication to helping President Trump achieve his historic victory is second to none.’

‘I believe she is an extra set of eyes and ears for President Trump,’ Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wy., told Fox News Digital. ‘Every time I have been with him, she has been close at hand.’

Barrasso explained that Harp is in regular communication with him and other senators and members of Congress via text message.

‘I text her if I need to get to the president,’ Barrasso explained. ‘If he doesn’t pick up the phone, I know to go to Natalie, and he gets the message.’

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also said he goes to Harp to set up anything from ‘golf to the most sensitive foreign policy matters.’

‘You want to get something to President Trump, she’s the person to talk to,’ Graham told Fox News Digital. ‘I trust Natalie to keep anything I communicate to President Trump confidential. She is very dedicated to the president – she is very loyal and always professional and always polite.’

Graham added: ‘She will promptly respond to requests by senators – I’ve heard that from others – and I feel like when I am communicating with Natalie, I am communicating in a sense of trust.’

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Harp touted the president for having ‘truly invested time in building a network of allies, in Congress, media, and business, that is unrivaled.’ She said those relationships have ‘deep roots’ and credited them to accessibility.

‘Communication by phone and by text is always open,’ Harp said.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster told Fox News Digital he’s worked with Harp directly ‘on many occasions.’

‘She is the ultimate professional – highly driven, disciplined and loyal,’ McMaster said. ‘She has and will continue to serve President Trump and our country well.’

Harp created a ‘mobile office’ for the president during the campaign, telling Fox News Digital that she did so because the president wants to stay ‘accessible.’

‘Breaking news has no consideration for where you are. That’s how our mobile office started,’ Harp said. ‘Many times, the president wants to get his thoughts out on paper, so I’ll take dictation, print, and then he works on it until he has the words just right for a viral Truth.’

Harp said she had the idea to get a mobile printer to ‘speed up the process,’ noting that printers ‘aren’t always accessible’ on the golf course or on the road.

And Harp said the set-up is how they ‘get breaking information we can act on, in real time, and vice versa.’

Harp told Fox News Digital she regularly communicates with that network of allies, sending news clippings and even polling members of Congress on timely issues and legislation.

‘He can virtually whip votes in a matter of minutes,’ Harp said.

Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital that Harp ‘keeps us in the loop’ on Capitol Hill.

‘If you want a Congress that represents a real partner for the incoming president, it’s important to share information,’ Jackson told Fox News Digital. ‘Natalie is critical in making sure members of Congress feel like they’re part of the president’s team.’

But in working for the president, Harp said ‘confidentiality, speed, accuracy, and adaptability’ are ‘the nature of the job.’

‘The president deserves nothing less,’ Harp told Fox News Digital. ‘Yes, he works 24/7, but it never feels like he’s driving or pushing us to work harder. Rather, he inspires us to be more, and do more, because he sets the example himself.’

When asked what type of information Harp brings the president or shares with his allies, she said, ‘It depends.’

‘During the various witch hunts, I researched what legal experts and scholars were writing about the cases. When we were out campaigning, I monitored reviews to see what parts of the president’s messaging were resonating best,’ she explained. ‘I have a big database of websites that I source from. Sometimes I go through back-to-back, checking top headlines and, if I see one on an issue the president has been talking about or that he’s interested in, I grab it.’

Harp traveled with the president throughout the campaign, spent days in court as he battled now-dismissed cases against him, and was even with him during both assassination attempts in July in Butler, Pennsylvania, and September at Trump International Golf Course in Palm Beach, Florida.

‘We share a deep faith in God, but now, a ‘miracle’ is something we’ve not just read about, but lived, not once but two times,’ Harp said. ‘Some have said that they see a ‘changed’ Donald Trump after two assassination attempts. I disagree. These gut-wrenching experiences have not left him a different person, but only revealed to the world who he has always been.’

Harp said that is ‘the same misunderstanding that the 2024 presidential election is the story of Donald Trump’s comeback.’

‘It isn’t. He’d be the first to say so – he never went anywhere. It is others who left, only to return or, who never gave him a chance, that are finally coming around,’ Harp said. ‘None of this is to say that the president hasn’t changed at all through the years, but rather that the essence of who he is has only become more visible.’

Harp recalled being in court with the president, when he would ‘occasionally close his eyes and listen.’

‘He is on a totally different plane, at peace with God, and unshakably focused. Nothing gets to him, because he puts his comfort second, and his purpose first,’ Harp said of the president. ‘If people could just tune out the noise and prejudice coming from those who, whether purposefully or unintentionally, misunderstand him, you will see the heart of a man who had everything, but continues to risk it all, for love, of country, and the American people.’

Harp studied business finance at Point Loma University and received her Master of Business Administration from Liberty University.

Harp, who battled and survived stage 2 bone cancer, credits Trump’s 2018 ‘Right to Try’ law with saving her life. The measure allows terminally ill patients to access drug treatments that have not yet been fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Harp penned an op-ed in 2019 about her experience with Right to Try, which went viral. She appeared on ‘Fox & Friends’ to share her story in June 2019.  After her appearance, Trump tweeted, ‘Proud of Natalie!’ and invited her onstage at his next event, in Washington D.C., at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference, where she called him her ‘Good Samaritan.’

‘Donald Trump isn’t just a believer in miracles, he helps to make them happen,’ Harp told Fox News Digital.

Barrasso, a physician, echoed Harp’s sentiment about Right to Try, saying she ‘is a great success’ of the legislation.

‘It is possible she would not have been able to survive,’ Barrasso said. ‘The fact that she is still with us is a miracle itself, and she wants to spend every day thanking God for what she has, and she does an awful, awful lot with and for President Trump.’

Harp later joined the Trump 2020 presidential campaign’s advisory board and spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

‘She keeps everybody in a really good mood, and most importantly, she keeps the president in a really good mood, and I think she has been key to his success throughout the campaign,’ Rep. Ronny Jackson told Fox News Digital. ‘As a physician, from a psychological standpoint, when you are around people who are in a good mood, that are laughing, that are smiling, it makes you feel better as well – that’s just human nature – and I think it’s important to have someone like Natalie around, who never gets down about anything.’

‘She’s the first person up in the morning and the last person to go to bed,’ Jackson said. ‘The unbelievable work ethic, combined with her bubbly personality, is a unique combo that is really good for President Trump and really good for our country.’

China on Monday accused U.S. chipmaker Nvidia of violating its anti-monopoly law, a move likely to escalate already tense trade relations between the two countries as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office for a second time.

China’s state market regulatory arm said the probe is related to Nvidia’s 2019 acquisition of Mellanox, a global supplier of computer networking equipment.

China had conditionally approved that acquisition in 2020.

In a statement, Nvidia said it was ‘happy to answer any questions regulators have’ about its business.

“Nvidia wins on merit, as reflected in our benchmark results and value to customers, and customers can choose whatever solution is best for them,” the company said. “We work hard to provide the best products we can in every region and honor our commitments everywhere we do business.”

The company’s shares were down roughly 3% after markets opened Monday.

Last week, the outgoing Biden administration announced a fresh set of export controls on U.S.-made semiconductors designed to limit China’s ability to use them to develop weapons and advanced artificial intelligence systems.

China immediately responded by accusing the U.S. of bullying and hypocrisy while issuing embargoes on critical materials to the U.S.

“The U.S. preaches one thing while practicing another, excessively broadening the concept of national security, abusing export control measures, and engaging in unilateral bullying actions. China firmly opposes such actions,” the Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a statement last week.

The U.S. and France have also opened investigations related to Nvidia’s market dominance, though on different grounds.

In the past year, the Santa Clara-based company, whose chips have become the processor of choice for tech firms leading the AI revolution, has powered the entire U.S. stock market higher. In 2024, Nvidia’s share price has nearly tripled, making it one of the most valuable firms in the world.

Trump has promised to levy stiff tariffs on China when he takes office. He recently picked former Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, whom a Chinese think tank has accused of being ‘anti-China,’ for U.S. ambassador to China. He also tapped economist Peter Navarro, who favors tariffs, as trade and manufacturing adviser.

The fantasy football regular season is over and now the chase for the championship begins.

If you managed to make it to the playoffs in your league, you probably won’t find anyone on the waiver wire you’ll need to plug into this week’s starting lineup. However, there are always some unexpected bumps along the road to a title, so fortifying your bench for the weeks ahead is a smart move.

The bar is admittedly higher this week, so we won’t have as many suggestions or any FAAB recommendations. Just add anyone who could potentially help you.

Fantasy football players to add for Week 14

Due to the wide variance in types of leagues and individual team needs, the players listed here are in the lowest to highest availability rates in Fantrax leagues, which may or not match rates on other platforms.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

RB Sincere McCormick, Las Vegas Raiders (63% available)

I’m not joking. A player who just played his first offensive snap in the NFL three weeks ago could be a factor down the stretch. McCormick averaged over five yards per carry on Sunday, racking up 78 yards rushing and another 11 on two receptions – running over multiple defenders in the process. The Raiders’ quarterback situation is a mess, but after hosting Atlanta this week, they play the Jaguars and Saints in the fantasy playoff semifinals and finals. Believe me, he can help you win.

TE Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints (52%)

Speaking of unsettled quarterback situations, Derek Carr has a fracture in his non-throwing hand (in addition to being in the concussion protocol) and is considered week-to-week. Johnson had four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown against the Giants, making him the TE3 on the week. He could see even heavier usage if the Saints have to turn to Spencer Rattler under center this week vs. Washington. Also note the nice matchups against the Packers and Raiders in Weeks 16 and 17.

WR Jalen McMillan, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (56%)

McMillan has lived in the shadow of Mike Evans all season, but he had a breakout game on Sunday with four catches for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns – his first scores since Week 1. While he’ll have a tough matchup this week against the Chargers, McMillan gets to face Dallas and Carolina in Weeks 16 and 17 when he could be worth starting as a flex.

RB Sean Tucker, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (75%)

Gotta keep an eye on those injuries. Bucky Irving left Sunday’s game with back tightness, leaving Rachaad White to get most of the snaps in his place. White scored twice and was the week’s No. 3 running back, but he’s already rostered in every league. Should Irving miss more time and the Bucs decide to share the workload, Tucker (192 total yards, two TDs in Week 6 with White out) could be a useful fill-in, especially with that enticing schedule.

RB Patrick Taylor, San Francisco 49ers (80%)

Apologies to all those who added potential ‘league-winning pickup’ Isaac Guerendo last week. The Niners’ backfield injury bug may have claimed yet another victim. Guerendo exited in the fourth quarter with a foot injury that could keep him out of Thursday’s game vs. the Rams. If that’s the case, Taylor figures to be the next man up. He had seven carries for 25 yards and scored a touchdown in relief on Sunday.

RB Isaiah Davis, New York Jets (88%)

With Breece Hall sidelined by a knee injury, Davis and Braelon Allen split the backfield duties against the Dolphins. Once again, the less-heralded Davis was the more productive player. He rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, plus added three catches for 27 yards. The Jets say they aren’t shutting Hall down, but it’s hard not to see them continuing to give Davis and Allen plenty of work.

The quarterfinals for the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup begin Tuesday, and the knockout rounds for the league’s second in-season tournament set up nicely for an intriguing set of games that will be featured during the next week.

There are big names, recent NBA champions and promising contenders still left in the bracket in the Eastern and Western Conferences, with more than $500,000 per player and a trip to Las Vegas for the semifinals and championship games at stake.

In the East side of the quarterfinals, Franz Wagner and the Orlando Magic visit Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks to get the knockout round action started Tuesday. Then the Atlanta Hawks play the New York Knicks on Wednesday in a matchup that will also pit Trae Young against Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden once more.

The West-leading Oklahoma City Thunder have a playoff rematch against the defending conference champion Dallas Mavericks in Tuesday’s late quarterfinal game and the surprising Houston Rockets host the Golden State Warriors to close out knockout round action Wednesday night.

There’s no telling what team might emerge with a single-elimination format. Last year, the Los Angeles Lakers won the first NBA Cup and didn’t make it out of the first round of the NBA playoffs. Here’s what else to know about the NBA Cup, including odds, predictions and a schedule for how to watch the quarterfinals and the rest of the tournament.

The Dallas Cowboys’ chances of making the NFL playoffs all but evaporated following their 27-20 Week 14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on ‘Monday Night Football.’

Now, Dallas faces a key decision about its future. Will Mike McCarthy return to coach the team in 2025 or will the Cowboys go in another direction?

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones isn’t ready to commit to any decision about McCarthy, as he explained during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

‘You’re going to the inner parts of my mind this morning,’ Jones said with a chuckle when asked about a potential McCarthy extension. ‘I’m not too sure I’m ready to go there, but there’s no secrets in there.’

Jones was likely speaking about having to think deeply during the morning radio hit, which occurred at 8:30 a.m. local time in the Dallas area, rather than being entirely undecided about McCarthy’s future.

Either way, Jones didn’t tip his hand. The 82-year-old simply noted that he would rely on his experience with the team, which he has been running since 1989, to guide him as Dallas considers changes following a rough 2024 season.

Jones did, however, offer up plenty of praise of McCarthy. He noted that the endorsements given to the coach by Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons and Troy Aikman were ‘not surprising at all’ and were indicative of the success McCarthy has enjoyed during his NFL career.

‘He wouldn’t be in this job had he not had the kind of credibility that those endorsements reflect,’ Jones said. ‘He’s a heck of a head coach in the NFL, and he’s got the skins on the wall to prove it.’

Jones seemed particularly pleased that Prescott was happy with McCarthy’s performance and referenced that continuity could prove beneficial for Prescott and McCarthy alike.

‘Do we want to benefit from these last five years that Mike has had with Dak Prescott?’ Jones queried. ‘We’ve got Dak Prescott going forward, an incremental part of how we’re going to be as a team over the next few years to come. You couldn’t, in my mind, have anyone any better influencing the best and bringing out the best in Dak Prescott than Mike McCarthy.’

That comment could prove significant. Why? Because Jones gave a ringing endorsement of Prescott during his radio appearance on Tuesday.

‘It’s obvious that our quarterback for the future is Dak Prescott,’ Jones said. ‘We don’t have to have guess work about who is our quarterback.’

This shouldn’t be a surprise. After all, the Cowboys made Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history on eve of the 2024 NFL season.

That said, there is a certain amount of guess work being done on the Cowboys’ head coach for 2025. So, seeing Jones endorse McCarthy – and, more specifically, watching Prescott back his fifth-year head coach – could indicate that Jones isn’t bluffing while considering giving McCarthy another season.

With her signature long-range 3-point shots and her amazing passing skills, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft led the Indiana Fever to their first playoff berth since 2016, while at the same time ushering in a new level of exposure and fandom for the league.

All this after leading the University of Iowa to a 34-5 record and the championship game of the women’s NCAA Tournament while breaking the all-time Division I career scoring record.

The announcement was made Tuesday on NBC’s Today show and in an accompanying article in the magazine.

With just a short break between the end of the college basketball season and the start of her pro career, Clark continued to shine as a rookie in the WNBA.

She set a rookie record for most 3-pointers made in a season, while also establishing WNBA marks for assists in a single game and in a season.

As Clark was taking the league by storm, overall attendance increased by 48% over last year to its highest level in more than two decades. The Fever broke the WNBA record for home attendance, and their regular-season finale against the Washington Mystics drew 20,711 fans, the most ever to witness a WNBA game.

In the interview with Time, Clark took pride in her role in the league’s unprecedented growth: ‘I’ve been able to captivate so many people that have never watched women’s sports, let alone women’s basketball, and turn them into fans.’
