Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., is urging former President Trump to emphasize unity in his speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday night.

Mace, a Trump ally and unofficial surrogate for his campaign, suggested she wanted to see a plan from Trump to not only appeal to all factions of the GOP but voters outside of it as well – especially groups that traditionally do not vote Republican.

‘I want to hear him unifying the party, unifying the nation, especially in the wake of the attempted assassination on Saturday,’ Mace told Fox News Digital in an interview after her own RNC speech.

Trump is taking the RNC stage on Thursday to formally accept the GOP nomination for president for 2024.

He’s expected to have modified his speech after the failed attempt on his life at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend. A 20-year-old gunman opened fire from a rooftop outside the rally perimeter, killing one attendee and injuring two others.

The primetime address will be his first speech since the assassination attempt.

Mace suggested the address should not focus on partisan divides but rather on appealing to a broader group of voters.

‘It’s important that we all come together. But this isn’t a fight for the left or the right. Each side has their own,’ she said. ‘This is, how do we attract independent voters? How do we attract women? How do we attract [people] to the left of center, centrists and moderates, and know that they have a home within our party?’

‘And that can unify a party, that can unify the country. And when he gets elected, it’ll be a landslide.’

Mace herself has been known to buck the traditional party line on occasion, forcefully calling on Republicans to take a clearer stance on women’s issues like abortion exceptions and sexual assault accountability.

During her Wednesday night RNC speech, Mace pointed out that she was both a single mom and a rape survivor.

‘To women tonight who can relate, please know – you have a friend and a sister in me,’ Mace said. ‘And I will fight like hell for you.’

Speaker Mike Johnson is expressing confidence that Republicans have enough momentum to win the White House in November – no matter who the Democratic presidential candidate is.

‘As President Trump has said, he was, they had sort of prepared in the mindset that they would run against Biden, but it doesn’t matter. I mean, if they put Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket, she’s the co-owner of all the policies, it’s not any better,’ the Louisiana Republican told Fox News Digital in a Thursday interview.

‘It doesn’t matter who they run. Anybody that they would put in that place – this election is not about personalities, it’s about policies and what it means to people.’

It comes as Democratic pressure continues to build on President Biden to drop his re-election bid.

The 81-year-old president is facing calls to duck out of the race after his disastrous debate performance last month. It’s brought out concerns that Biden may not have the physical or mental stamina to run for office nor hold it for another four-year term.

Johnson, who has long accused Biden of not having the mental acuity to hold office, would not say whether the president should leave office right now. But he pointed out that even senior Democrats are apparently moving behind the scenes to push Biden off the 2024 ticket.

‘Look, it’s for him to determine. They’re in real turmoil. On the other side, you hear in the last 24 hours, I’m told that [Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries] have all pretty well indicated that he – told him, I guess, or at least implied publicly that he should… not run for re-election,’ Johnson said.

The trio of top Democrats has made no public indication that they’re pushing Biden to get out of the race, and a White House spokesperson told Fox News on Wednesday after conversations with Schumer and Jeffries, ‘The president told both leaders he is the nominee of the party, he plans to win, and looks forward to working with both of them to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families.’

Meanwhile, there are 20 congressional Democrats publicly calling on Biden to step aside, including Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a top Pelosi ally.

Vice President Kamala Harris is increasingly being viewed as a likely successor to the president, despite similarly struggling with her approval numbers. However, some Republicans have privately expressed concerns that a younger candidate could fare better against Trump.

Johnson said he believes that Trump, on the other hand, is seeing a fresh sense of unity and support ever since the attempt on his life last weekend at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one rally attendee was killed and two others critically injured.

‘I have done events in 144 cities, in 31 states, they told me, in the last seven months, and there is something happening out there in the country right now. And I think post the failed assassination attempt, there’s even a greater energy out there,’ Johnson said.

‘People feel it personally, and they know what President Trump has had to go through. He has a sympathy factor on top of all the energy that was already there. I think we’re headed for a really strong November for the party.’

Fox News Digital reached out to the Biden campaign for comment but did not hear back by press time.

Small-caps took the lead over the last two weeks with the S&P SmallCap 600 SPDR (IJR) surging over 10% in five days and hitting a new high. IJR also broke out of a long consolidation and this breakout is bullish. There are now three possibilities going forward. First, IJR continues higher without looking back. Second, IJR tests the breakout zone with a throwback. Third, IJR fails to hold its breakout and turns bearish. Let’s look at the current chart and some prior breakouts for insights. We covered the recent setups and breakouts in small-caps, mid-caps and non-tech stocks in our reports and videos at ChartTrader (here).

The first chart shows the current situation. IJR surged with the broader market from late October to December and then embarked on a six month trading range. As we will see, IJR is no stranger to long, and frustrating, trading ranges. IJR formed an ascending triangle in the second half of this range and broke out with a big surge the last two weeks. This breakout is bullish and a strong breakout should hold. A close below 109 would erase more than half of this surge and call for a re-evaluation.

The next chart shows IJR with a breakout that failed to hold. After a big advance from November to March, IJR embarked on a seven month trading range. A symmetrical triangle (blue lines) formed in the second half and the ETF broke out with a big move in November. A strong breakout should hold with broken resistance turning into the first support zone. IJR did not hold this breakout as it gapped below the breakout zone in late November. This gap and sharp decline through the breakout zone were the first signs that something was wrong.

The next chart shows IJR with a breakout and continuation higher. IJR bottomed in March 2020 and advanced until early June. The ETF then embarked on a five month trading range that lasted until October. A classic cup-with-handle formed (blue lines) in the second half and IJR broke out with a gap-surge in November. The ETF never looked back and advanced over the next three months. This is the strongest scenario for a breakout, but we are not seeing this as IJR fell 2% the last two days.

There are two key takeaways. First, IJR and small-caps can and do get stuck in trading ranges. They go through trending periods, but are also prone to extended periods of sideway price action. Second, a strong breakout should hold and the breakout zone is the first area to watch going forward. Be careful if we see a sudden and sharp decline back through the breakout zone.

ChartTrader reports and videos covered setups in the S&P MidCap 400 SPDR (MDY) and S&P 500 EW ETF (RSP) in late June and updated these charts with our analysis this week. We also featured a number of non-tech stocks with bullish continuation patterns and breakouts. Click here to learn more.

When Nick Saban said ‘I’m still going to have a presence here …. ‘ in an ESPN interview after his retirement, the former Alabama football coach was speaking literally, about an office in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

But the Saban presence in the stadium may become symbolic as well.

An item marked ‘consideration of resolution approving a naming at Bryant-Denny Stadium ….’ appears on the agenda for The University of Alabama System’s Honorary Degrees and Recognition Committee Meeting for Friday, July 19. Reports began circulating widely through a variety of media that the gridiron inside Bryant-Denny Stadium will be dedicated as Nick Saban Field.

In Tuscaloosa, his name already adorns the Saban Catholic Student Center, adjacent to campus. The Nick’s KIds Foundation, named for the coach’s late father, Nick Saban Sr., and driven by his wife Terry, has built namesake playgrounds at The Alberta School of Performing Arts and along the Riverwalk.

The avenue formerly known as 28th is now Nick’s Kids Avenue, running alongside the former Tuscaloosa News building site, which the city has purchased and plans to rebuild into the Saban Center, a STEAM learning venue with art, entertainment, and hands-on education.

Saban also has a nine-foot bronze statue outside Bryant-Denny, on the Walk of Champions, standing with the likenesses of other coaches who coached Alabama to national football championships: Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Paul W. ‘Bear’ Bryant and Gene Stallings.

The 72-year-old Saban announced his retirement this January after coaching the Tide to a 201-19 record over 17 seasons, including six national titles and nine SEC championships. Added to his previous head coaching gigs at LSU, Michigan State and Toledo, his college career record was 297-71-1 with seven national championships. Saban also coached three years for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins before being lured to the Capstone in 2007.

Following his retirement announcement, there was talk of adding his name to those of Bryant and Denny. The 100,077-capacity Bryant-Denny Stadium was originally built in 1929 for about $100,000, and named for George H. Denny, the university’s 15th president, credited for much of UA’s early expansion and growth. Money earned from 1926 and ’27 Rose Bowl teams helped pay for construction over about nine acres southwest of the Quadrangle, the campus center which also holds Denny Chimes.

Bryant’s name was added in 1976. State Sen. Bert Bank, a long-time Tuscaloosan, urged the state legislature to bestow the honor on Bryant, who won 323 games and six national championships.

Europeans sit at the top of the 2024 British Open.

English golfer Daniel Brown, 29, made a stunning run to the top of the leaderboard on Thursday at Royal Troon Golf Club, leading Irishman Shane Lowry by a single stroke heading into Round 2.

To say Brown hasn’t had recent success heading into the Open would be an understatement. He finished 61st at his most recent tournament, the Genesis Scottish Open, and before that, missed the cut or withdrew in six of his last seven tournaments.

‘I know if I play well, I can compete with most, so hopefully it carries on throughout the week,’ Brown said after his round.

It was also an encouraging start for Justin Thomas (-3), who’s looking for his first major victory since 2022.

Further down the leaderboard, it was a first round to forget for some of golf’s most notable names: Tiger Woods (+8), Rory McIlroy (+7) and Bryson DeChambeau (+5) all struggled on the links.

USA TODAY Sports covered all things Open Championship, including highlights, leaderboard updates and more below.

Daniel Brown takes outright lead at The Open Championship

Daniel Brown may have cracked the code of Royal Troon.

The English golfer sank a birdie putt on No. 18 to snag the outright lead from Shane Lowry at the 2024 Open Championship, dropping to 6-under (65) in the first round.

Brown is angling for a storybook ending to the Open, though there are three rounds to go: He has a single win on the DP World Tour, which came in 2023 at the ISPS Handa World Invitational.

Daniel Brown ties Shane Lowry on leaderboard

What a turnaround it’s been for golfer Daniel Brown.

Through 16 holes, the 29-year-old golfer is a co-leader at the 2024 Open Championship after sinking a birdie putt on No. 15, gaining a stroke to tie Shane Lowry at 5-under.

It’s quite the swing for Brown: He’s missed the cut or withdrawn from seven of his last eight tournaments – all on the DP World Tour – and finished 61st at his most recent entry.

Brown has two more holes to finish out the impressive first round at Royal Troon.

Shane Lowry finishes round atop leaderboard

In 2019, Shane Lowry captured his first and only major title at The Open Championship. In 2024, he put himself in good position to make a run at another.

The Irishman finished his first round at The Open Championship with a 5-under 66, good for sole possession atop the leaderboard.

Of the golfers who remain on the course, Daniel Brown (4-under, 67) is the only other threat to Lowry’s lead. Earlier in the day, Justin Thomas set the standard with a 3-under 68. Thomas sits alone in third place.

Tiger Woods score today at the Open

Tiger Woods started the first round of the 2024 Open Championship with promise, but it ended with disappointment.

After tallying two pars and a birdie in his first three holes, Woods couldn’t keep the momentum going: He would bogey four of his next five holes, including a double on the par-3 fifth. Woods added four more bogeys on the back nine, finishing his day at an 8-over 79.

Is Bryson DeChambeau playing in the Open?

After his victory at the 2024 U.S. Open, Bryson DeChambeau teed off at the links in Scotland for the 2024 Open Championship on Thursday. He had a first round to forget, however: DeChambeau struggled, finishing with a 5-over 76, likely ending his opportunity at a third major victory.

Shane Lowry moves into the lead

With a 21-foot birdie putt on No. 11, Shane Lowry has taken sole possession of the first-round lead at the 152nd Open Championship.

The winner of the Claret Jug in 2019 at Royal Portrush, Lowry has put together a bogey-free opening round so far –with three birdies on the front nine in addition to his latest bird on the par-4 11th.

Xander Schauffele makes it a three-way tie

Playing in the same group with a struggling Tiger Woods, reigning PGA champion Xander Schauffele rolled in a 36 1/2-foot birdie putt on the par-4 11th hole to tie Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry for the first-round lead.

Schauffele previously birdied both of the par-3 holes on the front nine before adding his latest on 11. Woods is at 6-over through 11 holes.

British Open clubhouse leaderboard

With the opening round in progress and a good number of golfers still on the course, here’s a look at the top early starters who’ve already completed their rounds.

Justin Thomas 68 (-3)Alex Noren 69 (-2)Nicolai Hojgaard 69 (-2)Justin Rose 69 (-2)Russell Henley 69 (-2)Adam Scott 70 (-1)Matt Wallace 70 (-1)Chris Kirk 70 (-1)

Shane Lowry pulls into tie for lead

Justin Thomas has company at the top of the leaderboard.

Shane Lowry, the 2019 Open champion, rolled in a 9-foot birdie putt on No. 8 to get to 3-under for his round – matching Thomas’ score from earlier in the day.

As the wind picks up during the afternoon, birdies seem to be in much shorter supply. But Lowry has been steady tee-to-green so far, with three birdies and five pars.

Tiger Woods finding plenty of trouble on front nine

With a highlight-reel birdie putting him 1-under through three holes, Tiger Woods was off to a strong start at Royal Troon. However, the damp and breezy conditions have made things much more difficult for the 15-time major champion as his round has progressed.

Woods bogeyed the par-5 fourth – one of the easier holes on the course – then double-bogeyed the par-3 fifth to negate any of the early momentum he may have built up. After another bogey at 7, Woods flew the green on the short par-3 ‘Postage Stamp’ hole and missed his putt for par.

Through eight holes, Woods is 4-over on his round.

19-year-old amateur holes out for eagle on first hole

Golf just isn’t supposed to be this easy for a teenager.

Spanish amateur Jaime Montojo – who plays collegiately in the U.S. at Texas A&M – made it into this year’s British Open by surviving a grueling 36-hole qualifying tournament.

In his first hole at Royal Troon, the 19-year-old successfully found the fairway off the tee, putting him 132 yards from the hole.

And then this happened.

The opening eagle immediately put Montojo onto the leaderboard, just one stroke behind clubhouse leader Justin Thomas.

Brooks Koepka goes on impressive birdie run

Brooks Koepka always seems to be at his best in the biggest events, with five major titles in his career. But he’s never won the British Open.

He has, however, finished in the top 10 at The Open four different times.

Koepka rebounded from a pair of bogeys on the second and third holes with an impressive string of four consecutive birdies to move within one shot of the lead.

Three of those birdies came after deadly accurate approach shots left him with putts inside 12 feet. He also birdied the monstrous par-5 sixth hole with a 28-footer that he buried in the bottom of the cup.

Where is Royal Troon golf course?

Tiger Woods rolls in birdie from off green

It wasn’t quite as dramatic as his iconic chip-in at No. 16 at Augusta, but Tiger Woods showed a glimpse of the old magic on the third hole at Royal Troon.

Sitting above the hole and just off the back of the green, Woods’ putt over a ridge made a sweeping turn back to his left and rolled directly in the cup for birdie.

The birdie put Tiger at 1-under for his round — two strokes behind leader Justin Thomas.

Tiger Woods on the course at Royal Troon

Three-time British Open winner Tiger Woods has begun his opening round, hitting a 3-wood off the tee into a stiff wind at the 365-yard, par-4 first hole. Woods found the light rough on the right side of the fairway and hit a 6-iron safely onto the front of the green.

From there, he two-putted for a routine par.

Woods, a 15-time major champion, is playing in a group with Patrick Cantlay and reigning PGA champ Xander Schauffele. Both of them also parred the opening hole.

Justin Thomas alone atop leaderboard

After a brief stumble early on the back nine, American Justin Thomas finished with a flurry to take the outright lead with a 3-under 68.

‘I’m very satisfied. Not as satisfied as I’ll be when I’m in sweatpants and a sweatshirt this afternoon on the couch,’ Thomas told NBC’s interviewer Cara Banks ‘This is a proper Scottish day and it’s nice to get off to a good start.’

Thomas birdied five of his first 10 holes at Royal Troon, including the famous ‘Postage Stamp’ par-3 eighth to briefly take a two-shot lead. But he gave those shots right back when his driver betrayed him, resulting in a double bogey on 12 and bogey on 13.

But the two-time major champion (PGA 2017, 2022) rallied with birdies on the final two holes to take a one-stroke lead over three others already in the clubhouse – and several others still on the course.

Should Tiger Woods retire?

USA TODAY Sports columnist Dan Wolken has some thoughts:

‘If you’re old enough to remember the origins of Tiger Woods, there’s nostalgic pleasure in the idea he can still dunk on Colin Montgomerie today with just as much flair as he did during the 1997 Masters in a third round that changed the course of golf history,’ Wolken writes. ‘But Montgomerie, in the full context of his comments in the London Times, isn’t wrong either.’

What exactly is Woods trying to accomplish by still being out there?

Unless he can do something on the course, we might have to admit that Monty had a point.

Rory McIlroy struggles through opening round

After an early birdie, things have gone south for Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy at the British Open.

McIlroy took a double bogey on the par-3 ‘Postage Stamp’ eighth hole after a promising tee shot just carried into a greenside bunker. However, he needed two shots to escape the sand and then missed a 14-footer for bogey.

His troubles continued with a bogey on No. 10 and a double on 11. Through 13 holes, the 2014 Open champion sat eight shots off the lead at 5-over.

McIlroy first appeared at The Open in 2007, when he finished in 42nd place. He has finished in the top six six times in eight tournaments dating back to 2014. He tied for sixth last year at Royal Liverpool.

Scottie Scheffler at British Open

Masters winner Scottie Scheffler has appeared at The Open three times in his career, with his highest finish coming during his 2021 debut at the event. Scheffler finished in a tie for eighth place that year at Royal St. George’s.

Scheffler has one of the later tee times of Thursday’s first round. He’ll get started at 10:10 a.m. ET in a group with Jordan Spieth and Cameron Young.

Justin Rose joins group of leaders in clubhouse

England’s Justin Rose parred every hole on the back nine to complete a 2-under 69 and put him in a tie for the lead among golfers who’ve finished their rounds.

The 2013 U.S. Open champion carded a pair of birdies in his bogey-free round. He joins Sweden’s Alex Noren and Norway’s Nicolai Hojgaard as the clubhouse leaders − with six others still on the course − at 2-under.

Rose, 43, has several near-misses in majors over his career, including a tie for second behind Francesco Molinari at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

Tiger Woods at British Open

Tiger Woods is a three-time winner at The Open, pulling off victories in 2000, 2005 and 2006.

Tiger’s first appearance at The Open was in 1995, when he finished in a tie for 68th place. He’s only appeared at the tournament once during the past four years, and that was in 2022 when he missed the cut. The last time he made the cut was in 2018 when he finished in a tie for sixth place at Carnoustie in Scotland.

Woods is set to play his first two rounds at Royal Troon with PGA champ Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. Their group tees off at 9:37 a.m. ET.

2024 British Open weather forecast

The weather for today’s opening round? Typical British Open conditions: breezy and wet. Rain early in the morning has given way to scattered sprinkles, leaving the greens saturated and fairly slow in the early going.

The official forecast calls for ‘outbreaks of rain and drizzle’ throughout the day with a ‘moderate to fresh’ breeze and temperatures in the 60s. Winds should pick up as the afternoon progresses with gusts exceeding 20 mph.

Bryson DeChambeau off to dreadful start

U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau came to Scotland flying high after his thrilling victory at Pinehurst. However, any expectations of a second major title in 2024 have been severely damaged by his struggles over the first six holes at Troon.

DeChambeau bogeyed three of the first four holes − then after an errant drive on the par-5 sixth in which he was unable to advance the ball out of the native grass on his second shot, he had to hit into an adjacent fairway to even have a shot at the green. But his troubles weren’t over.

After missing the green and pitching to 10 feet, he missed his bogey putt and tapped in for double.

DeChambeau was 5-over through his first six holes. However, he got a measure of redemption on the back nine with an eagle on the par-5 16th. He ended the day with a 5-over 76.

Four-way tie for the lead

Troon showed its teeth on hole No. 12 as early leader Justin Thomas hit a wayward drive far left into the gorse and had to take an unplayable lie. From there, he had to re-tee and then had to play his fourth shot from the 11th fairway.

Thomas was able to get in position to only drop one shot, but he missed a 6-foot putt for bogey to fall back into a tie for the lead with Alex Noren, Justin Rose and Russell Henley at 2-under.

Justin Thomas on top of the early leaderboard

Justin Thomas got to the top of the leaderboard early Thursday with three birdies on holes 7, 8 and 10, including this beauty on the ‘Postage Stamp.’ He was 4-under through 10. Here’s an early look at the leaderboard.

Matt Wallace birdies the ‘Postage Stamp’

Wallace got to 4-under after his birdie on the eighth, dubbed the ‘Postage Stamp’ because of the small putting surface. According to the Royal Troon web site: ‘The tee is on high ground and a dropping shot is played over a gully to a long but extremely narrow green set into the side of a large sandhill. Two bunkers protect the left side of the green while a large crater bunker shields the approach.’

Younghan Song tied for (very early) lead

Younghan Song made the turn at 3-under for a share of the early lead. Song made a spectacular birdie on the No. 8 ‘Postage Stamp’ to get to 4-under. He then three-putted the ninth for bogey and was tied for the lead with Matt Wallace.

Matt Wallace eagles No. 4

Matt Wallace holed out from 85 yards on the par-5 No. 4 for eagle. He landed it just short of the pin and it spun back into the hole. The beauty gave him an early share of the lead at 3-under. Wallace, 34, has one PGA Tour win (2023 Corales Puntacana Championship) and seeks his first major championship.

American Brian Harman claimed his first career major by playing four rounds of consistent, steady golf in the soggy conditions at Royal Liverpool to win the 2023 British Open by six strokes.

With only two career victories on the PGA Tour, Harman entered Sunday’s final round with a five-shot lead. He closed with a 1-under 70 as Jon Rahm, Tom Kim, Jason Day and Sepp Straka all tied for second place.

During a final press conference to hype the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Perry Saturday night, a yellow strip with black lettering appeared on the upper lefthand corner of the screen showing the event.

It read: ‘We apologize for the bad language.”

There was lots of it, with more than a dozen F-bombs dropped during an event broadcast on YouTube − or, as the boxers threatened to have it renamed, the Eff-You-Tube.

The mostly playful encounters between Paul (9-1, 6 KO’s) and Perry, the bareknuckle brawler who is 0-1 in boxing, to promote the cruiserweight fight scheduled for eight rounds devolved into something far less civil Thursday. At times it was downright vulgar. But it did include some unintended humor.

Perry spewed profanity as if he were getting paid by the word, but he objected when Ariel Helwani, who moderated the press conference, referred to Perry as ‘one of the toughest SOBs on the planet.”

Said Perry, ‘It’s SOG.”

That would be Son of a Gun. Which Perry indicated his mother would prefer.

‘Sorry, my apologies to her,” Hewani said.

Mrs. Perry did not attend the press conference, according to Perry, who said his mother will attend the fight to be broadcast by DAZN. In fact, DAZN will also broadcast the press conference and apparently was responsible for issuing the apology that appeared on the upper lefthand corner of the screen.

Who Jake Paul plans to embarrass

Not surprisingly, Paul helped rile up Perry, who has elevated his profile while going 5-0 in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

‘I’m going to embarrass their whole entire league,” Paul said. ‘This guy (Perry) has no skill. Those are just brawlers, idiot street fighter dudes who have no idea what the sweet science is.”

Perry then called Paul a ‘disrespectful punk.”

‘Those men and women fight for their families over there,” Perry said, referring to the BKFC fighters. ‘They put it all on the line and they get in that ring and they put on shows for the fans.”

Jake Paul’s pre-fight confession

Paul’s biweekly podcast came out Thursday, and Helwani noted that Paul disclosed he drank alcohol at Michael Rubin’s White Party 16 days before his scheduled fight against Perry.

‘Does that make you feel like he’s not taking this fight seriously?” Helwani asked Perry.

Not in the least.

Perry said he’s drank and smoked before a fight and then grew even more explicit about his pre-fight activities.

‘I’m a crazy (expletive),” he said, ‘and I’m here to fight.’

The ‘second half’ of the 2024 Major League Baseball season resumes Friday, but it’s never to early to look ahead to the 2025 season.

MLB released its 2025 regular-season schedule on Thursday, which will once again begin in foreign territory. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs will open the season on March 18 in Tokyo, Japan. The rest of the league will begin on March 27, marking the earliest start in major league history, excluding special season-openers at international venues.

It will be the third straight season in which MLB will implement a balanced schedule, in which each team will play 13 games against each division rival (52 games) and six or seven against each other club in its league for a total of 62. The remaining 48 games are against interleague opponents, with a single three-game series against each of the 14 other clubs in the opposite league.

Key dates to remember in 2025:

March 18-19: Tokyo Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers will once again open the regular season in foreign territory, this time in Tokyo, Japan, against the Chicago Cubs. Dodgers stars and Japan natives Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will face fellow Japanese players and Cubs stars Shota Imanaga and Seiya Suzuki in a two-game series at the Tokyo Dome. It will mark the sixth time in which MLB opens its regular season in Tokyo.

March 27: Traditional Opening Day

All 30 teams will play on Opening Day on March 27. There are 15 regular-season games scheduled, featuring four divisional matchups and five interleague contests. The traditional opening date of March 27 will mark the earliest in major league history, excluding special season-openers at international venues. Previously, the earliest Opening Day for MLB had been on March 28 in 2019 and 2024.

May 16-18: Rivalry Weekend

In mid-May, 11 of the 15 series will pair rivals, while some of the other matchups will have a regional flavor. Among the top rivalries that will be played are between the New York Mets-New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels-Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox-Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals-Kansas City Royals.

July 15: 2025 MLB All-Star Game

The 95th edition of the Midsummer Classic will be in Atlanta for the third time.

The city was originally supposed to host the All-Star Game in 2021, but MLB moved the game to Coors Field in Denver in response to Georgia’s voting laws that would disproportionately affect citizens of color.

The game will be played on Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park, which opened in 2017.

Sept. 28: End of regular season

The 2025 regular season wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 28, featuring eight divisional matchups, including the Baltimore Orioles-Yankees, Cardinals-Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks-San Diego Padres.

Adidas is apologizing for ‘any upset or distress caused’ by including Bella Hadid, a model with Palestinian lineage, in advertisements for its 1972 Munich Olympic sneaker relaunch.

The sports apparel company selected Hadid as the face of its recently-launched SL72 campaign, which celebrates the 52nd anniversary of the Munich Olympics with the revival of Adidas’ ‘coveted classic’ sneaker from the 70s. The 1972 Olympics in Munich, however, were overshadowed by a terrorist attack that left 11 Israeli athletes and one German police officer dead at the hands of a Palestinian militant group amid the Israeli-Palestine conflict.

“We are conscious that connections have been made to tragic historical events — though these are completely unintentional — and we apologize for any upset or distress caused,” Adidas said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. “As a result, we are revising the remainder of the campaign. We believe in sport as a unifying force around the world and will continue our efforts to champion diversity and equality in everything we do.”

Adidas’ SL72 advertisements feature an Adidas-clad Hadid holding flowers, while showing off her sneakers. ‘Giving Bella Hadid her flowers in the SL 72,’ read a tweet from Adidas Originals. But after the company issued an apology and promised to revise the campaign, all tweets featuring Hadid were scrubbed from Adidas Originals’ X account and Instagram. Hadid is still featured on Adidas’ website, as of Thursday afternoon.

The American Jewish Committee called on Adidas to address the ‘egregious error.’

‘At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, 12 Israelis were murdered and taken hostage by Palestinian terrorist group Black September. For Adidas to pick a vocal anti-Israel model to recall this dark Olympics is either a massive oversight or intentionally inflammatory. Neither is acceptable,’ the AJC wrote on X Thursday.

Hadid is a vocal supporter of Palestine and frequently uses her platform to speak out against Palestinians impacted by the Israeli-Palestine conflict. She marched against former President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December 2017, writing at the time, ‘The TREATMENT of the Palestinian people is unfair, one-sided and should not be tolerated. I stand with Palestine.’ Last month, Hadid and her sister, fellow supermodel Gigi Hadid, donated $1 million to Palestinian relief efforts, according to BBC.

Soccer player Jules Koundé, rapper A$AP Nast, musician Melissa Bon and model Sabrina Lan are also featured in the campaign, and all remain on Adidas’ various social media accounts.
