A top Biden White House adviser has been employed for decades as a minister at a Washington, D.C., church that has hosted several activists and religious leaders with long histories of antisemitism, including one Black activist who, during a 2002 speech, called for ‘Zionists’ in Israel, including their babies, to be murdered.

Rev. Thomas Bowen, who is listed on Shiloh Baptist Church’s website as a minister of social justice and has been employed at the church since 2002 in several leadership roles, joined the White House in February to serve as the senior adviser for the White House Office of Public Engagement, which ‘works at the local, state, and national levels to ensure community leaders, diverse perspectives, and new voices all have the opportunity to inform the work of the President.’

Shiloh Baptist Church, a historic Black church that Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband visited on Christmas Day in 2022, is led by Reverend Doctor Wallace Charles Smith, Shiloh’s senior minister and a longtime mentor of Bowen. During a sermon before Shiloh’s congregation last month, Bowen called Smith his ‘hero,’ ‘friend,’ and ‘mentor … to whom I owe a debt that I could never ever repay.’

Bowen’s social media is also littered with praise of Rev. Smith, who invited multiple activists with long histories of antisemitism into their church.

In April 2018, Rev. Smith hosted the National Black Men’s Convention at Shiloh Baptist Church, which was billed as a five-day summit for ‘mobilizing and organizing brothers for a better future for our community’ and opposing President Trump. Each day had a different theme, which included reparations, and several of the speakers involved with the summit had a problematic history of antisemitism and vile rhetoric against White people.

In the months before the convention, Rev. Smith met at Shiloh Baptist Church with the convention’s co-host Malik Shabazz, the founder of Black Lawyers for Justice and former chairman of the New Black Panther Party. Shabazz, who has been labeled by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a ‘racist black nationalist with a long, well-documented history of violently anti-Semitic remarks and accusations about the inherent evil of white people,’ posted a photo of him and Smith hugging on his Facebook and said they had a ‘great meeting’ together. Shabazz also added that ‘Pastor Smith and other pro-Black Christian preachers will be speaking’ at the convention.

Shabazz, who posted a photo with notorious antisemite Louis Farrakhan in 2020 with the caption, ‘I HAVE WALKED WITH THE BEST’ and called the Nation of Islam leader ‘one of the great influences in my life’ last year, made several other posts in the months leading up to the 2018 convention touting Shiloh Baptist Church as the host of the convention, including videos that showed he was in attendance at church events while Bowen was on the church’s payroll.

SPLC’s website lists several vile quotes uttered by Shabazz, including remarks from a 2002 speech in Washington, D.C., where he reportedly said, ‘Kill every goddamn Zionist in Israel! Goddamn little babies, goddamn old ladies! Blow up Zionist supermarkets!’ In another speech from the early 2000s, he also pushed antisemitic tropes about ‘Zionists’ controlling the media and foreign policy.

Earlier this year, Shabazz posted a photo of him and former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from 2012 and said his ‘views are shaped by my experiences.’ He said he was invited by a now-deceased journalist for the Nation of Islam’s publication and said Farrakhan was in attendance with dozens of imams. Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called Israel an ‘illegitimate regime’ and has called for its ‘elimination.’

When pressed by Fox News Digital on his ties to Farrakhan and his long history of antisemitic remarks, he responded, ‘Have no associations with Louis Farrakhan. Am not anti semetic (sic).’ Fox followed up with a social media post showing him and Farrakhan, prompting him to say, ‘Meaning I have no current associations with him.’

The other co-host of the convention was Minister Hashim Nzinga, who has since died and was serving as the chief of staff for the New Black Panther Party when he died in 2020. He also made several controversial statements, according to SPLC, including saying, ‘Every White man and every Jew is the devil by nature.’ During a 2016 interview with the Los Angeles Times, he was asked to respond to Shabazz’s comment about killing Zionists, prompting him to admit, ‘I still say that all the time now. You’ve gotta kill them before they kill you. … If someone brings harm to us, we’re gonna kill them.’

‘In addition, Nzinga said in the interview that homosexuality is evil, that Jews control the media and are responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks and that blacks are God’s ‘chosen people,’ Jesus himself being black,’ the LA Times reported at the time.

An archived itinerary of the convention revealed that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ controversial uncle, Leonard Jeffries, was also a speaker at the event. The elder Jeffries, who has a long history of antisemitism, is described on the convention’s website as a ‘political scientist’ who ‘achieved national prominence in the early 1990s for his historical statements about Jews’ and highlighted how Jeffries ‘stated that Jews financed the slave trade, used the movie industry to hurt Black people, and that whytes [sic] are ‘ice people’ while Africans are ‘sun people.’’

Shabazz posted Jeffries’ speech on his Facebook page, where he opened his remarks by saying ‘Black power’ before asking the crowd to give a round of applause for Shabazz and Nzinga for organizing the convention. He also gave a shoutout to Farrakhan during his remarks.

Another speaker at the convention was Dr. Boyce Watkins, who wrote the book ‘The 10 Commandments of Black Economic Power’ and is a staunch defender of Farrakhan. In a 2018 tweet, Watkins defended Farrakhan comparing Jews to termites, saying, ‘Anyone attacking [Louis Farrakhan] for his statement about being ‘anti-termite’ is probably a termite themselves.’ He has also used antisemitic tropes like saying Jews control Hollywood and the music industry.

In September 2023, Watkins said, ‘I love Farrakhan. Period.’ And in a 2022 video, he boasted about being invited to the Nation of Islam’s annual Saviour’s Day event and said the Nation of Islam ‘are like brothers to me. When I go in there, when I roll up there, I get so much love from all the NOI brothers and the sisters. I just want to give them a shoutout right now.’

It is unclear whether Bowen, who previously served as director of African American strategic engagement in the executive office of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, was involved with the planning for the convention or was in attendance. But an archived version of Shiloh’s website says he was one of the five ‘assistant pastors’ at the time of the convention. He did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

A few years earlier, in 2015, Rev. Smith hosted Farrakhan and dozens of Black community leaders at his church for an invitation-only meeting to discuss the upcoming 20th anniversary of the ‘Million Man March.’ Farrakhan, who was surrounded by several Nation of Islam members in addition to Rev. Smith and Cora Masters Barry, who faced backlash earlier this summer for an unearthed clip saying, ‘F— the White women,’ spoke at the private event.

An article from the Washington Informer, a ‘woman-owned multimedia news organization serving the African-Americans’ in the DC area, reported at the time that Farrakhan, while speaking at Shiloh, said he believed it was time for Blacks to ‘distribute the pain’ so they aren’t the only ones suffering.

Shiloh also hosted former President Obama’s controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright that year, according to a tweet from Bowen saying he was ‘preaching’ the ‘Miseducation of the Palestinians.’ Wright previously delivered the viral ‘God damn America’ sermon and used an antisemitic trope to blame Jews for keeping him from talking with Obama after Obama won the 2008 presidential election. The comments ignited backlash from the Anti-Defamation League at the time, calling Wright’s comments ‘inflammatory and false.’

‘The notions of Jewish control of the White House in Reverend Wright’s statement express classic anti-Semitism in its most vile form,’ an ADL spokesperson said in 2009. ‘In a short succinct sentence, Reverend Wright manages to both label some of the President’s closest advisors solely by their religious beliefs and give them powers superior to the President himself.’

The White House and Shiloh Baptist Church did not respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.

Tech Rallies, But Remains Inside the Lagging Quadrant

A quick look at the Relative Rotation Graph for US sectors reveals that the Technology sector is still the main driving force for the market. Technology now makes up more than 30% of the market capitalization of the S&P 500, so it significantly influences the price (movement) of the S&P 500 index.

On this weekly RRG above, the XLK tail can be seen heading further into the lagging quadrant, together with XLC and XLE.

After dipping to the 540 area at the end of last week, the market has recovered some of that ground so far this week. This move has now established the area around 540 as support, while overhead resistance still remains intact around 565. A break of either level will very likely ignite an acceleration in the direction of the break.

On the weekly RRG, this move has had no material impact so far.

The Daily RRG Shows Some Improvement

Only when zooming in on the daily Relative Rotation Graph can we see this week’s improvement.

What is interesting to see on this daily RRG is that the same three sectors that are inside the lagging quadrant on the weekly RRG are also inside the lagging quadrant on this daily RRG. XLC and XLE clearly confirm their relative downtrends by rotating at a negative RRG-Heading.

The uptick in tech stocks so far this week has caused an improvement in relative momentum, but not (yet) in relative strength.

But It’s Based On a Narrow Foundation

Zooming in on the technology sector members and using the table below to examine their performance over the last five trading days, we find the RRG provides some insight into where this jump in performance is coming from.

With XLK up 5% so far this week, only 9 out of the 50 stocks in this group outperform SPY. The other 41 are below XLK. With NVDA being one of the top-ranking stocks, this group is already pulling performance up by its market capitalization, especially because MSFT, the other big name inside XLK, is only 0.5% below XLK.

Therefore, the foundation of this tech rally so far is very narrow. Again.

Based on these observations, I will judge the current tech rally as a recovery within an established relative downtrend.

Defensives Pushing Into Leading RRG Quadrant

On the opposite side of the spectrum, three sectors seem very well positioned for further outperformance. XLV (Health Care), XLF (Financials), and XLP (Consumer Staples) have all just entered the leading quadrant, which means a turnover from a relative downtrend into a relative uptrend against SPY. All three are rotating at a positive RRG-Heading, and all three are showing an increasing RRG-Velocity.

Looking at their individual charts combined with relative strength and their RRG-Lines, one sector stands out with a setup we have seen before.

Consumer Staples

At the end of 2021, the consumer staples sector ended a prolonged period of underperformance (20 months), marked by the first vertical dashed line in November 2021, when the RS-Line broke above a falling resistance line. By then, the JdK RS-Momentum line had already crossed above the 100 level, pushing the XLP tail into the improving quadrant.

A few weeks later, the JdK RS-Ratio line also crossed above 100, and the tail moved into leading. Shortly after that move, the market started to drop, and XLP started to serve its role as a defensive sector, outperforming SPY for more than a year while the market (SPY) dropped 20%.

Fast Forward to the Present

The RS-line of XLP has broken above its falling resistance after a downtrend that started at the end of 2022, so almost two years ago — 21 months, to be exact. RS-Momentum rose above 100 a few weeks after that event, and this week, RS-Ratio also crossed above 100, pushing the XLP tail into the leading quadrant.

The price moves on the SPY chart are almost identical on both occasions. There is a peak when the RS line crosses upward, and a second peak shortly after the RS-ratio line crosses above 100.

Given the defensive nature of the Staples sector and the analogy that seems to be playing out at the moment, I am keeping my cautious/careful approach to the markets.

The share price of Trump Media plunged more than 10% on Wednesday, a day after majority shareholder Donald Trump gave a widely panned presidential debate performance against Vice President Kamala Harris.

The company’s stock price closed at its lowest level since the Truth Social app owner began publicly trading as DJT on the Nasdaq in late March.

Investing in Trump Media stock is often seen as a way to bet on the political fortunes of Trump, the former president and current Republican nominee.

Trump Media has said its business hinges at least partly on Trump’s popularity, and analysts say the company’s value will rise or fall based on his electoral prospects.

The stock drop Wednesday could signal that some Trump’s supporters were not pleased with what they saw at Tuesday night’s debate in Philadelphia.

Liberal and conservative political commentators said Harris appeared more prepared, articulate and even-keeled than Trump, who repeatedly bit on bait that she tossed to throw him off topic.

Harris’ team, projecting confidence, challenged Trump to another debate right after the first one ended.

Trump said he may not agree to that. In a Truth Social post Wednesday, he repeated his claim that Harris only wanted another debate because she was “beaten badly.”

“Why would I do a Rematch?” he wrote in the post.

Trump Media had surged as much as 10% during trading Tuesday, possibly indicating optimism about how Trump would fare in the debate.

The company’s gains on Monday and Tuesday were a respite from a weekslong rout that saw the stock price sink as much as 75% from its intraday high in late March, when then-privately held Trump Media merged with a blank-check firm.

The slump coincided with President Joe Biden dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing Harris to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket.

It also came in the run-up to the date when Trump and other company insiders can start selling their shares.

Trump owns nearly 57% of the company’s stock. That stake at Wednesday’s closing price was worth about $1.9 billion.

It is unclear if Trump plans to start selling off his stake when a lock-up agreement lifts on Sept. 19.

Joe Schmidt, the Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker who led the Detroit Lions to their last championship in 1957, died Wednesday, his family told the Free Press on Thursday. He was 92 years old.

Schmidt spent two decades with the Lions as a player and coach, and is one of the most revered figures in franchise history. He was an eight-time first-team All-Pro, a member of the NFL’s 100th anniversary team, and he helped revolutionize defenses by ushering in the modern middle linebacker position.

“He was like a coach on the field,” Schmidt’s teammate, Roger Zatkoff, told the Free Press in June 2020. “I can recall instances where he would come up and say, ‘Hey, cheat over here, one man to your left,’ because something else was going on and we needed to make an adjustment. And the reality is, he like Bobby Layne made adjustments without the coaches knowing it.”

A seventh-round pick out of Pittsburgh in 1953, Schmidt helped the Lions win a championship as a rookie after he replaced LaVern Torgeson as a starter early in the season.

All things Lions: Latest Detroit Lions news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

The Lions defeated the Cleveland Browns, 17-16, that December to win their third ever title. Schmidt, who forced an Otto Graham fumble to set up the Lions’ first touchdown in the championship game, made the Pro Bowl each of the next 10 years.

“He was the best,” said Gene Cronin, a teammate of Schmidt’s in 1956-59. “Years ago, there was a story going around that they were going to make a movie called ‘The Violent World of Sam Huff.’ And (Huff) was a fine middle linebacker, no question about it. And they asked Gino Marchetti, they said, ‘What do you think about the making a movie called The Violent World of Sam Huff?’ And he said, ‘Well, if they make a movie, they better get Joe Schmidt to play the part.’ You can’t get a better compliment than that.”

Before Schmidt’s emergence, most NFL teams, including the Lions, played five-man defensive fronts with an oversized guard in the middle of their line.

Schmidt, who played fullback and guard early in his college career, moved to linebacker during his sophomore season at Pitt, where his speed and athleticism allowed him to star as an off-the-ball run-stopper.

With the Lions, he played outside linebacker his first two seasons and moved to middle linebacker in 1955, when coach Buddy Parker switched full-time to a 4-3 defense after guard Les Bingaman retired.

With Schmidt as their leader, the Lions had some of the NFL’s most fearsome defenses.

“Nearly everybody soon went to the 4-3 with the middle linebacker the key to the defense,” Parker once told the Free Press. “Schmidt’s mobility took some of the load off the defensive backs on pass defense.

“In fact, his style of play brought about the zone defense, revolving defenses and modern defensive look of pro football.”

Born at the height of the depression in 1932, Schmidt spent his early years in Pittsburgh. His father passed away when he was 12, one of his older brothers was killed in World War II, and he grew up idolizing another older brother, John, who played football at Carnegie Tech and coached a semi-pro team, the St. Clair Veterans.

Schmidt played sandlot ball with that team as a teenager, and according to The Saturday Evening Post even joined them as a 14-year-old for a game against a team of convicts inside the Western State Penitentiary.

At Pitt, Schmidt suffered a slew of injuries, including two broken ribs, a broken wrist, a separated shoulder and a serious concussion.

Those injuries caused him to drop in the 1953 draft, when the Lions made him their fifth player selected, after guard Harley Sewell, halfback Gene Gedman and tackles Charlie Ane and Ollie Spencer. Sewell, Gedman and Ane also played on the Lions’ ’53 and ’57 championship teams.

“Statistically, I would have to say that he was marginal. He was 6 feet tall and 220 pounds,” then-Lions owner William Clay Ford said when presenting Schmidt for his Hall of Fame enshrinement in 1973. “Joe likes to say that at one point in his career, he was 6-3, but he had tackled so many fullbacks that it drove his neck into his shoulders and now he is 6 foot.

“There are, however, qualities that certainly scouts or anybody who is drafting a ball player cannot measure. … Desire, leadership and courage. Nobody knew what quantity Joe had of those elements and Joe had tremendous qualities in those elements.”

The Lions’ team MVP in 1955, ‘57-58 and ‘61, Schmidt helped organize what’s now known as the NFL Players Association in the 1950s and was a leading force in getting players training camp pay and pensions.

He retired after the 1965 season, spent a year as an assistant coach under Harry Gilmer and took over as head coach a year later, where he compiled a 43-35-7 record in seven seasons.

“I loved football and I came up here, seventh draft choice of a championship team, I really didn’t think I had an opportunity to make the team and lucky I made the team,” Schmidt told the Free Press in 2017. “I enjoyed it so much, the camaraderie, winning a championship, an opportunity in business after I got out of sports. So everything I have was actually came from playing football here in Detroit.

“If you stay here and work, people are very kind to you here in the industry. They love the sports in Detroit, they follow the Detroit Lions to a point where they were very great fans. And during that time we were winning, and of course that helps. But I can’t say enough about my opportunities here in Detroit and the opportunities the Detroit Lions gave me, and I’m forever grateful for that opportunity.”

Schmidt, who started his own automotive services business, selling rubber and plastic to the Big Three, during his playing days, is survived by his wife, Marilynn, and five children.

No public memorial is planned, with the family holding a private ceremony.

Is defensive lineman Kobie Turner starting an “old man” trend on the Los Angeles Rams?

The Rams released video of defensive lineman Bobby Brown III poking fun of Turner sitting down on the bench with his feet cross and his hands folded. Here’s how the hilarious exchange went down:

Brown: “Bro, you sitting with your feet crossed?”

Turner: “I’m telling you, I sit like an old man.”

Brown: “Whos’ granddaddy you is? Then he got his hands the same.” He then mimics his teammate and sits in the same position.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Turner: “It ain’t comfortable?”

Brown: “It is comfortable. I ain’t gonna lie. I ain’t gonna lie.”

The video (swipe on Instagram post above to see it) also shows Turner sitting in the same posture during a different game and defensive lineman Tyler Davis taking notice. Davis also tested out the posture and agreed it is comfortable.

Perhaps Turner started a new trend with the Rams, or at least in the defensive line room.

The 0-1 Rams take on the 0-1 Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. Both teams are trying to record their first win of te season. No word yet if Turner’s sitting style is a key to victory.

The Miami Dolphins are trying to break a four-game skid against the AFC East-rival Buffalo Bills, but they might need to do so without one of their top offensive playmakers.

Running back De’Von Achane is officially questionable for Thursday night’s matchup with an ankle injury.

Achane ran for just 24 yards on 10 carries in Miami’s Week 1 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he added 76 yards on seven receptions. A third-round pick out of Texas A&M in 2023, he proved to be a breakaway threat as a rookie, averaging 7.8 yards per carry and giving defenses another speedster to account for in coach Mike McDaniel’s attack.

If Achane is unable to play, the Dolphins’ ground game could look considerably different from its typical form, as Raheem Mostert has already been ruled out with a chest injury.

Here’s the latest on Achane heading into Thursday’s game:

All things Dolphins: Latest Miami Dolphins news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

De’Von Achane injury update

Achane is expected to be a game-time decision due to his ankle injury, McDaniel told reporters on Wednesday.

‘We’ll see how it plays out,’ McDaniel said.

Achane was listed as a limited participant for the Dolphins’ practice on Wednesday, which was a walk-through.

In two games against the Bills last season, Achane racked up 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries.

Dolphins depth chart: Who’s up next at RB if Achane is out?

Jeff Wilson Jr. finished ahead as the Dolphins’ leading rusher in Week 1, coming in ahead of both Mostert and Achane with 26 yards on five carries. The seventh-year running back could be in for an increased workload, especially if Achane is held out.

But fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright also could factor into the team’s game plan. Wright was a healthy scratch for the opener, but the Tennessee product has proven to be a big-play threat thanks to his 4.38-second speed in the 40-yard dash.

Cam Taylor-Britt is keeping the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs rivalry alive and well entering their Week 2 matchup on Sunday.

The third-year cornerback did so by giving one of Kansas City’s young stars, rookie receiver Xavier Worthy, a lukewarm review.

Worthy was a big-time playmaker for the Chiefs in their Week 1 win over the Ravens. He logged 68 yards on just three touches and scored twice, once on a 21-yard jet sweep and once on a 35-yard touchdown catch from Patrick Mahomes.

In both instances, Worthy outran the defense with his straight-line speed. That didn’t impress Taylor-Britt much, as he revealed when asked what the first-round pick brings to the Kansas City offense.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

‘Speed. That’s about it,’ Taylor-Britt said, per Caleb Noe of WPCO. ‘He can run straight. Run jet sweeps and just run straight. He can’t do too much else, so that’s about it.’

Taylor-Britt explained that he believed there was a simple way to get the young pass-catcher off his game.

‘I feel like if you put your hands on him, he’s only a hundred-some pounds,’ Taylor-Britt said. ‘So if you put hands on him, you’re gonna stop his speed, so basically get your hands on him.’

Worthy does weigh just 165 pounds and 5-11, so he is on the smaller side for an NFL receiver. Given that Britt weighs 200 pounds, he would potentially have the physicality edge in any 1-on-1 against Kansas City’s newest weapon.

Still, it’s worth noting that Worthy did significant damage against the Ravens despite getting the ball just three times. He may be able to repeat a similar feat against the Bengals if Cincinnati has any lapses in coverage.

Worthy and the Chiefs seem likely to use Taylor-Britt’s comment as bulletin-board material entering their Sunday showdown with the Bengals. They were already taking the contest serious given the rivalry the two teams have developed over the past five years as two of the AFC’s top contenders.

Even so, Taylor-Britt’s diss may give the Chiefs some extra juice, much like when the two teams met in the 2023 AFC championship game. That meeting came after Cincinnati spent the week referring to Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium as ‘Burrowhead’ because of quarterback Joe Burrow’s success at the stadium.

The Chiefs ended up winning that contest 23-20 to get to the Super Bowl.

Seventy-nine Democrats voted against a bill effectively banning Chinese military companies from doing federal business in the United States, but the Harris-Walz campaign declined to say where it stands on the legislation amid concerns over Gov. Tim Walz’s ties to an institute that did business with one of the companies targeted in the bill.

The Biosecure Act, HR 8333, passed the House by a vote of 306-81, with 79 Democrats and two Republicans voting against it. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, would not allow federal agencies to ‘procure or obtain any biotechnology equipment or service produced or provided by a biotechnology company of concern.’

One of the companies called out in the act, Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI), has been labeled a ‘Chinese military company’ by the Pentagon and has done extensive work with a medical research institute with deep ties to Walz, Fox News Digital previously reported.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris-Walz campaign multiple times for comment over the last six days on whether it supports the Biosecure Act, but they refused to say where the campaign stands.

BGI’s presence in the United States was brought to the forefront again this week after Fox News Digital reported that the House Oversight Committee is aware of a machine operated by BGI that is in use at Los Alamos, the nation’s most secretive government laboratory.

‘I spoke in favor of my bill, the BIOSECURE Act, on the House floor today. This legislation is the first step towards breaking our reliance on Chinese biotech and pharmaceutical companies while protecting the genetic data of millions of Americans from the CCP,’ Wenstrup posted on X shortly before the bill was passed.

‘From harvesting genetic data for research to aiding and abetting the CCP in genocide, China’s biotech companies have proven they will stop at nothing to assist the CCP. It’s time we reclaim our independence and protect the health care of all Americans.’

Earlier this year, the House Oversight Committee announced it is investigating Walz’s ties to China and on Thursday the Washington Examiner reported that the investigation has expanded and documents have been requested.

Walz worked briefly in China as a teacher, traveling to Guangdong in 1989 for a teach abroad program to teach English and American history. Walz has made dozens of trips to China and The Wall Street Journal, citing local media reports, reported that one trip to China doubled as his honeymoon in 1994, and he planned his wedding date to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.

‘I’ve lived in China and, as I’ve said, I’ve been there about 30 times…. I don’t fall into the category that China necessarily needs to be an adversarial relationship. I totally disagree, and I think we need to stand firm on what they’re doing in the South China Sea, but there’s many areas of cooperation we can work on,’ Walz said in an interview with Agri-Pulse Communications.

He was also quoted by a local outlet in 1990 reflecting on his visits to China, saying, ‘No matter how long I live, I will never be treated that well again.’

‘They gave me more gifts than I could bring home. It was an excellent experience,’ Walz said, adding that he was ‘treated exceptionally well.’

The remark came in the wake of the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989 and amid continued and still ongoing mass human rights abuses by the communist regime.

Numerous companies are making strides within their respective sectors, but, unless you follow the sector closely, you might not be aware of them. That’s what makes StockCharts Technical Rank (SCTR) reports so helpful.

If you’ve checked your SCTR reports regularly, you might have noticed Insmed (INSM) appear at or near the top over the last three months.

FIGURE 1. DAILY SCTR REPORTS SHOW INSM IN THE OF THE TOP-UP, LARGE-CAP STOCKS.Image source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

Insmed (INSM) is a biotech company that has had a near-perfect SCTR score of 99.9 since the end of May.

A SCTR (pronounced scooter) score above 90 is exceedingly bullish, as it signals technical strength across multiple technical indicators and timeframes. Sustaining a score well above 90 for months tells you that something tremendous is happening with the company and its stock.

But if you don’t follow biotech, you’re probably wondering, “What is Insmed? Why haven’t I heard of it? Why is it soaring now? Where was it before it showed up on the SCTR report’s top spot?”

In a Nutshell, Here’s What’s Driving INSM

Insmed’s stock is popping thanks to positive results from a late-stage study of its antibiotic drug Arikayce, developed for treating a rare, severe lung infection. The study’s success boosts hopes for broader FDA approval, driving INSM’s sharp breakaway gap to all-time highs.

Before this, however, what did INSM’s performance look like?

Three-Year Lookback at INSM’s Performance

FIGURE 2. WEEKLY CHART OF INSM. The recent tests catapulted INSM to all-time highs.Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

Take note of the following points:

The breakaway gap (see orange short-term downsloping trend line) from $22 to $49.53 marked a 125% spike. While INSM’s SCTR score has exceeded the 90 line four times in the last three years (see green circles), notice how it barely outperformed, and largely underperformed, its broader industry, represented by the Dow Jones U.S. Biotechnology Index ($DJUSBT).The latest break above the 90 line looks flat-out bullish (see green rectangle), aligning with a 171% outperformance of its industry.

Does this make INSM a strong candidate for a long position? To explore that further, let’s shift to a daily chart.

Should You Go Long INSM?

FIGURE 3. DAILY CHART OF INSM. Note the declining momentum and topping formation.Chart source: StockCharts.com. For educational purposes.

Here are the main things to keep an eye on:

INSM looks to be forming a double top; still, market sentiment reacting to INSM’s latest testing news and developments moving forth may defy (bearish) technical indications. The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) shows that buying pressure is fading, matching up with the Relative Strength Index’s (RSI’s) bearish divergence signal from overbought levels.Despite looking toppy, for INSM’s near-term uptrend to continue, you’d want to see it break above resistance at its all-time level of $80.53 while remaining above its most recent swing low at the $70 range. If it falls below the $70 range, the next lines of support can be at the previous swing lows of $67.20 and $61.50.

Warning: A deeper correction may indicate that something is off between the technical reading and the market’s reaction to the company’s news or product development.

If INSM falls below $61.50, the long-term uptrend could still hold despite invalidating the short-term trend. Be extra careful, though! INSM might slide to $45–$52, hitting key Fibonacci retracement levels, but a dip that low could mean something big has changed with INSM’s product development, and the price action may be reflecting the market’s response to these (bearish) developments.

Lawyers for Caroline Ellison, the star witness in the prosecution of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, are recommending no prison time for their client’s role in the implosion of the crypto empire that was run by her former boss and ex-boyfriend.

In a court filing Tuesday night, the attorneys said that, at most, Ellison should be sentenced to time served and supervised release because of her swift return to the U.S. from FTX’s Bahamas headquarters in 2022 and her choice to voluntarily cooperate with the U.S. attorney’s office and financial regulators in helping them understand what went wrong at FTX and sister hedge fund Alameda Research.

Judge Lewis Kaplan, who presided over Bankman-Fried’s case, cited Ellison’s testimony when he decided in March to sentence the FTX founder to 25 years behind bars.

Ellison, who ran Alameda Research, agreed to a plea deal in December 2022, a month after FTX spiraled into bankruptcy. Unlike Bankman-Fried, who was convicted of all seven criminal fraud charges against him, Ellison pleaded guilty to conspiracy and financial fraud charges, rather than go to trial.

The Tuesday filing also refers to the recommendation of the court’s Probation Department that Ellison be given a sentence of “time served with three years of supervised release” as a credit to her “extraordinary cooperation with the government” and “her otherwise unblemished record.” Lawyers added that the department’s presentence report, which referenced numerous character testimonials speaking to Ellison’s ethics and integrity, also recommended that she not be fined.

“Caroline poses no risk of recidivism and presents no threat to public safety,” the filing says. “It would therefore promote respect for the law to grant leniency in recognition of Caroline’s early disclosure of the crimes, her unmitigated acceptance of responsibility for them, and — most importantly — her extensive cooperation with the government.”

In the filing, FTX CEO John Ray, who has been guiding the crypto firm through bankruptcy proceedings, describes Ellison’s cooperation as “valuable” in helping his team protect and preserve “hundreds of millions of dollars” in assets. He added that she has worked with his advisors to provide information regarding private keys to cryptocurrency wallets that contain “estate assets, DeFi positions, FTX exchange internal account information, the use of third-party exchanges for pre-petition trading, and pre-petition auditing practices.”

The 67-page document describe large swaths of Ellison’s life, starting from her earliest days in Boston and stretching into her protracted and troubled romance with Bankman-Fried. In that time, she “moved around the globe at his direction, first to Hong Kong and later the Bahamas,” and “worked long, stressful, Adderall-fueled hours,” the filing says.

Bankman-Fried forced Ellison into a sort-of isolation, culminating in her moral compass being “warped,” the lawyers say. At his direction, Ellison helped “steal billions,” all while living “in dread, knowing that a disastrous collapse was likely, but fearing that disentangling herself would only hasten that collapse.”

“Bankman-Fried convinced her to stay, telling her she was essential to the survival of the business, and that he loved her,” all “while also perversely demonstrating that he considered her not good enough to be seen in public with him at high-profile events,” the filing says.

An attorney for Bankman-Fried didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The document makes a point of noting that she has “drawn comfort from a new partner,” whose name is omitted from the document, but whom her friends recognize as “supportive and a positive, grounding influence.” She’s also written a novel, that’s “unrelated to the facts of this case.”

Ellison, who turns 30 in November, has a sentencing hearing on Sept. 24, in the same courthouse where she took the stand for several days in Bankman-Fried’s trial. Her former roommates and ex-FTX executives, Nishad Singh and Gary Wang, will be sentenced in October and November, respectively.
