– Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley is confident that Sen. JD Vance of Ohio is ‘absolutely prepared’ for Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate showdown.

Vance, former President Trump’s running mate on the GOP 2024 ticket, will face off in New York City with Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota in the one and only debate between the two running mates.

‘You look at everything he’s done since he was named as the candidate. He’s been preparing, he’s been talking with the press, he’s been out there, he’s been moving around and talking to the American voters. So, he’s very ready to have this conversation,’ Whatley emphasized in a Fox News Digital interview hours ahead of the debate.

A source familiar with Vance’s debate prep told Fox News Digital that over the last month, the senator took part in a series of murder board sessions with his team, where a group of people ask tough questions and have candid discussions to help someone prepare for a difficult examination or test, or in Vance’s case, a vice presidential debate.

According to the source, Vance conducted a mock debate over the past week, with Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the House majority whip, playing the role of Walz. Former Trump administration Treasury Department assistant secretary Monica Crowley played the role of one of the moderators from CBS News, which is hosting the debate in New York City.

Halfway through the mock debate, the power went out, as a strong storm slammed through the vicinity of Cincinnati, Ohio, where Vance lives and where the prep session was held. But according to the source, who shared the details first with Fox News, Vance and the team continued on, using lanterns for lighting and cellphones for timers.

Heading into the 2024 vice presidential debate, the 40-year-old Vance has been very talkative, sitting for scores of interviews and taking plenty of questions from reporters on the campaign trail.

Walz, who is 60, has been much more reluctant to speak with the national news media.

The governor was in debate camp ahead of the showdown to prepare. Walz huddled with advisers and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg – who played the role of Vance in mock debates – in Harbor Springs, Michigan, near the northern tip of the state’s lower peninsula.

Also helping out – Walz’s wife – Minnesota first lady Gwen Walz.

Asked on the eve of the showdown with Vance how his wife had been helping him with debate preparation, Walz told reporters, ‘She wins every one.’

With a second face-to-face showdown between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump unlikely – and with a margin-of-error White House race with five weeks until Election Day in November – there will be heightened stakes at the running mate debate, which is traditionally seen as a second-tier event in the presidential campaign.

‘Given that we’re only likely to have one head-to-head match-up between the principal candidates and this is the last meet-up between the two tickets directly before the election, it heightens the importance and significance of this debate,’ longtime Republican strategist and communicator Ryan Williams, a veteran of multiple presidential campaigns, told Fox News.

Most political pundits said Harris bested Trump last month in their first and likely only debate. And flash polls of debate watchers agreed.

So a strong showing by Vance in Tuesday’s vice presidential debate could give Trump a boost.

And there’s a precedent from 12 years ago.

After a shaky first debate by then-President Barack Obama against 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, then-Vice President Joe Biden’s well-regarded performance in the running mate debate against Romney running mate Rep. Paul Ryan gave the Democrats’ ticket a big boost.

Whatley, the former RNC general counsel and former North Carolina GOP chair who’s a close ally of Trump, told Fox Digital that Vance’s debate mission is to ‘deliver the message’ to voters across the country.

Whatley argued that ‘if you look at the Democrats, they don’t just have messenger problems, they have message problems. The polices that they’re pushing right now are not popular with the American people…. I think on every single one of these issues, the Republican ticket is the ticket of strength, the ticket of common sense, and I feel really great about where we’re going into tonight.’

The RNC chair also said that when it comes to Vance’s game plan for the debate, ‘I think he’s going to talk about the issues that the voters care about and those are the issues like inflation, like the southern border, like prices at the grocery store and at the gas pump. That’s really what people care about. That’s what we’re going to talk about.’

Part of the Harris campaign’s strategy ahead of the debate is to raise expectations for Walz.

For weeks, they’ve painted Walz as a regular guy who will be facing off with the Ivy League-trained Vance. What they don’t mention is that Walz won six House races and two gubernatorial elections.

The Trump campaign’s playing the same game.

‘Walz is very good in debates. I want to repeat that. Tim Walz is very good in debates. Really good. He’s been a politician for nearly 20 years. He’ll be very well-prepared for tomorrow night,’ Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told reporters on Monday.

But Trump seemed to undercut this campaign’s argument, charging in an interview with Kellyanne Conway’s Fox Nation program ‘Here’s the Deal with Kellyanne’ that Vance is ‘going up against a moron. A total moron, how she picked him is unbelievable.’

Walz comes into the debate with better poll numbers than Vance.

According to the latest Fox News national poll, Walz was slightly above water with a 43% favorable rating and a 40% unfavorable rating.

Vance stood in negative territory, at 38%-50% favorable/unfavorable.

Yet October might be its most optimal season for survival.

As Major League Baseball’s playoffs commence, the art of getting 27 outs – already hyper-specialized in an era of big velocity and matchup-obsessed strategists – only gets finer. Clubs will assemble 13-man staffs to attack their specific opponent. Managers will script the out-getting like an offensive coordinator plotting an opening drive.

And hooks will be even quicker at the first sign of trouble.

Yet as this postseason kicks off with the wild-card round, a handful of aces will have the runway to prove that they, not alone but with little help, will prove to be the most efficient battering rams to get through three to four excruciating playoff rounds.

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

In Houston, Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal – the presumed American League Cy Young Award winner – will try to flip the balance of power against the eternally daunting Houston Astros. In Baltimore, the Orioles imported former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes for this very purpose – to set a tone, to give the club an advantage.

He will be opposed in Game 1 by young Kansas City Royals left-hander Cole Ragans, who need not look over his shoulder until his fuel gauge is redlining.

“If our starting pitchers pitch the way they have all year, I’ll be fine letting them continue to pitch,” says Royals manager Matt Quatraro. “That’s a huge part of why we’re here, where we are.

“Now I will say our bullpen, especially in the last month, has been remarkable. They’ve built a lot of confidence. As they’ve gotten those reps, we’ve seen them respond.

“But by no means are we going into this with a ‘only two times through the order’ or any of that kind of stuff. We know what the strengths of our team are. And we’re going to try to ride that.”

Sure, they are few in number, but the horse may yet again prove a decisive difference this October.

‘A different monster’

One year ago, Brandon Hyde’s Orioles ran into a buzzsaw. Sure, the Texas Rangers’ bats got hot at the right time, and they breezed through a wild-card sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays before winning all three games to eliminate the Orioles in the AL Division Series.

Yet looking back on the 2023 World Series champions, it’s clear one guy had an October for the ages.

Veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi started six postseason games for Texas – and the Rangers won them all. He was the winning pitcher in five of them, posting a 2.95 ERA and just three homers given up in 36 2/3 innings.

Eovaldi won four games on the road, including two at Minute Maid Park in the ALCS to end the Astros’ reign.

So what did the Orioles, who won 101 games in 2023 yet couldn’t buy a playoff victory, do last winter?

Trade for Burnes, a pending free agent who was so obviously going to be a rental. And while his 194 innings pitched, his 15 wins and his 2.92 ERA were oxygen for these Orioles, he was really brought here for one reason.

And that day has arrived.

“We feel great about Corbin going Game 1,” says Hyde. “He’s had a heck of a year, he’s a guy that can beat anybody on any night. And to have a guy like that with that kind of stuff, that kind of confidence – when Corbin Burnes is pitching, you expect to win that night.

“And that’s how our guys feel.”

Burnes, who turns 30 Oct. 22, is no playoff newbie, working out of the bullpen for the 2018 Milwaukee Brewers and throwing six shutout innings at the eventual champ Atlanta Braves in the 2021 NL Division Series.

Last year, he got jumped, giving up five runs in four runs to the Arizona Diamondbacks, themselves launching a surprise run to the World Series. The Brewers went home before the postseason paint had time to dry on the infield grass.

“Postseason baseball is a different monster,” Burnes said Monday. “Knowing this wild card set is a best-of-three, it’s important to win Game 1 tomorrow, and set thing up into the DS.

“You can’t look into the long haul. You say that in the season – one day at a time – but in the back of your mind you’re always looking at, ‘Hey, it’s May. We gotta make sure we’re ready for August, September, October.’

“We’re here. We’re in October. It’s time to go.”

Burnes called it “an honor” that the Orioles did not hesitate to name him the Opening Day starter, the Game 1 playoff starter, and lauded the lads in the clubhouse for bringing him into “their family” so soon.

He hopes to return the favor by imparting his playoff wisdom to the young Orioles who might have never seen a postseason game, or who got their heads spun around in the three-game Rangers sweep a year ago.

“Momentum is huge,” says Burnes. “You can feel that whether it’s the first inning, the sixth inning the ninth inning. It’s more about controlling momentum. You can feel it as a player.

“Being in that atmosphere before going through it a bunch of times, you learn ways to slow the game down a little bit.”

And the true – and few – October aces learn to revel in it.

Stone Cole killers

Ragans, 26, chose a good role model when he scrolled YouTube videos as a young lefty on the come-up in Florida.

“I probably watched every YouTube video on Cole Hamels in high school,” says Ragans of the 2008 World Series MVP for the Philadelphia Phillies. “I started taking my hands over my head in my windup and was looking for another lefty that did it. It was Cole Hamels

“He had a changeup; once I got into pro ball that became one of my better pitches. He had a lot of success. He had an unbelievable career.

“And in ’08, he had an unbelievable postseason.”

You might say.

Though there was one less round of the playoffs to navigate, Hamels had an almost identical playoff run for the champion Phillies as Eovaldi enjoyed last year. Philadelphia was 5-0 in his starts and Hamels was 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and gave up just two homers in 35 innings.

Hamels won NLDS Game 1, NLCS Game 1 and World Series Game 1, and started the Game 5 in which the Phillies closed out the Tampa Bay Rays.

These wild-card aces won’t be able to pull off that feat; the quick turnaround to the Division Series means they’d start a Game 3 at the earliest in the next round.

But the runway to craft their own October legend is there. Veteran Royals catcher Salvador Perez is bullish on Ragans, who told him the other day, “It’s just another game, Salvy.”

Well, maybe he was fudging a bit. Quatraro is confident in his starters and Ragans can feel that. Come Tuesday afternoon at Camden Yards, perhaps the Orioles will feel that, too.

“It means a lot – that Q and everyone has that trust in me to get it started,” says Ragans. “I’m excited for it and looking forward to it.”

Jared Goff entered Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season not particularly pleased with his efforts through three weeks. He should be feeling differently after the Detroit Lions’ 42-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Goff put together one of the best games of his career during the Lions’ offensive outburst. He was near-perfect as a passer, completing each of his throws and logging a near-perfect rating while taking just a few sacks.

The cherry on top? Goff also caught the second touchdown of his career on a well-designed trick play that saw Amon-Ra St. Brown throw a pass in the red-zone.

Here’s what to know about Goff’s historic outing on ‘Monday Night Football’ against the Seahawks.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Jared Goff stats today

Goff put together one of the most efficient games in NFL history during Detroit’s 42-29 victory over Seattle. He completed all 18 of his passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in a dominant showing.

In total, Goff had 299 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, as he caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from St. Brown on a well-designed trick play from coach Dan Campbell and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Goff looked like a natural reeling in the looping throw that came just over the head of a Seahawks defender.

Goff’s performance was made all the more impressive by the fact that the Seahawks were allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game entering Monday’s action. He more doubled the 132.3 yards per game Seattle had been allowing through the air and led the Lions to their strongest scoring output of the season.

Jared Goff completion percentage

Goff completed 100 percent of his passes against the Seahawks. His 18 passes without an incompletion were the most in NFL history, according to Opta Stats. He also became the only quarterback in NFL history to finish a game without an incompletion while throwing at least 10 passes, per the NFL’s Tony Holzman-Escareno.

Goff also became the first player in NFL history to throw for 200-plus passing yards without throwing an incompletion, per the ESPN broadcast.

Goff’s previous single-game high was his 84 percent mark in a 2021 game against the Chicago Bears. He completed 21-of-25 passes in that contest for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

Is Jared Goff the NFL’s single-game completion percentage leader?

Despite Goff’s excellent outing, he will not be the NFL’s single-game completion percentage leader. He came up just two attempts shy of the minimum 20 needed to qualify for the all-time leaderboard.

Has an NFL QB ever had a perfect completion percentage?

No NFL quarterback has had a perfect completion percentage while attempting at least 20 passes in a game. Drew Brees is the league’s current record-holder with a mark of 96.7 percent. He achieved that by completing 29-of-30 passes against the Indianapolis Colts in 2019.

Below are the quarterbacks to complete at least 95 percent of their passes in a single game while attempting at least 20 passes.

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: 96.7 percent (2019)
Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers: 96.6 percent (2018)
Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans: 95.7 percent (2018)
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers: 95.2 percent (2023)
Gardner Minshew, Jacksonville Jaguars: 95 percent (2020)

Jared Goff passer rating

Goff wasn’t just denied an NFL record by coming up two passes short. He also didn’t quite log a perfect passer rating despite his perfect completion percentage.

Goff had a passer rating of 155.8 during the contest. That was 2.5 points shy of the highest possible passer rating of 158.3.

What is a perfect passer rating?

The NFL’s passer rating metric is graded on a scale of 0 to 158.3, with the latter number representing the best a quarterback can do in a single game. The formula is based on the quarterback’s performance in the follow categories:

Completion percentage
Yards per attempt
Touchdowns per attempt
Interceptions per attempt

Goff issue appears to be that he averaged a touchdown ever nine passing attempts. If he had thrown for three during the contest with the same stats in the other areas – which would give him an average of a touchdown every six attempts – he would have achieved a perfect passer rating, according to Pro Football Reference’s Passer Rating Calculator.

Rose always knew that question would be heard clear ‘round the baseball world the day he died.

Now that Rose is gone, dying Monday at his Las Vegas home at the age of 83, everyone wants to know: “So, now does Pete Rose get into the Hall of Fame?“

Rose and I frequently discussed the topic, surfacing in virtually every conversation about his Hall of Fame candidacy, but he was always hoping it would never come to this.

He desperately wanted to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but was also fearful, and perhaps realistic, that if it happened, he wouldn’t be alive to see it.

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

Rose, baseball’s all-time hits leader, was permanently banned from the game in 1989 for gambling on games he managed while with the Cincinnati Reds.

Still, he insisted it was grossly unfair for Major League Baseball to punish him forever.

“There are guys who get life sentences in prison,’’ Rose told me, “and they’re set free before I am.’’

Rose pointed out the number of steroid users who are in the Hall of Fame.

He talked about players who were arrested, and even suspended for drug use, who became ambassadors for the game.

When MLB started embracing gambling, showing gambling shows on its TV network, with advertisements plastered on the outfield walls at ballparks, surely, he said, it was time to let him in.

Rose even came up with the classic line after Ippei Mizuhara, Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter was arrested in March for illegal gambling, saying: “If I had an interpreter, I’d be in the Hall of Fame.’’

But the cold-hearted truth is that Rose was always painfully aware that he might have to be dead to be inducted.

This way, MLB wouldn’t ever again have to worry about what he said, what he did, or where he gambled.

He can’t embarrass the game from the grave.

Who knows if Commissioner Rob Manfred and MLB would ever consider reinstating Rose, with the Hall of Fame putting him on its Era Committee ballot for the voters to decide?

Then again, ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson, who helped the Chicago White Sox throw the 1919 World Series, has never been voted into the Hall of Fame, and he’s been dead for 72 years.

“It always bothered him that he’d see these other people in, who did things they shouldn’t have, and they’d be in,’’ said Bob Crotty, who grew up in Cincinnati as a fan of the Big Red Machine, and became close to Rose the past 15 years. “He always talked about that. He just wanted to be on that ballot.’’

There are people who will never forgive Rose for his gambling, or hated him for his crude behavior, lewd accusations, or for his loud and sometimes obnoxious personality.

“I remember once I gave Pete a ride home on my plane from Cooperstown,’’ Crotty said. “He was coming on the plane, and he says to me, ‘You’re the others.’

“I said, ‘What does that mean?’

“He said, ‘If this plane goes down, it will be Pete Rose and others died in the crash.’ ’’

Crotty laughs while telling the story, saying he’s got a litany of stories with Rose he could never publicly share.

“Pete was simple,’’ Crotty said, “but had a complicated soul. This guy was a savant. You talk to him about baseball, and he could tell you the pitch count, the weather, every single thing about that moment. Baseball, man, who knew more? And there was a soft side to him. When my daughter died [in 2015], Pete left a long, heartfelt message.

“But his personal life, that’s where it went sideways.’’

The last time most people saw Rose was in Cooperstown this summer, signing autographs in the back of a store on Main Street, still flaunting his celebrity status. Yet, his health was starting to deteriorate. He needed help handling steps. Friends say he was on heart medication. His memory was slipping.

He no longer looked like that kid with the shaggy haircut who played the game of baseball with a burning passion and aggressiveness, refusing to let anything stand in his way.

“Really, I think Pete’s health has been deteriorating ever since Joe Morgan died [in 2020],’’ Crotty said. “That really affected him. He worshipped Joe Morgan. That threw him for a loop.

“He got melancholy, more emotional. There was a rough, hard shell around Pete, and that shell was breaking.’’

Rose, beloved by fans, will certainly be missed by those of us who knew him. No one played the game harder. No one cared more about the game. No one told better stories. No one’s entire life was baseball.

And it was all taken away.

Hall of Fame players such as Morgan, who was vice president on the Hall of Fame’s board of directors, and former home run king Henry Aaron, campaigned for years to get Rose elected into Cooperstown. They spoke on behalf of Rose with four different commissioners. No one budged.

How can players who were suspended for performance-enhancing drugs, Morgan said, be placed on the Hall of Fame ballot but not Rose?

“I made mistakes, I can’t whine about it,” Rose said years ago. “I picked the wrong vice. I should have picked alcohol. I should have picked drugs. Or I should have picked beating up my wife or girlfriend, because if you do those three, you get a second chance.

“They haven’t given too many gamblers second chances in the world of baseball.”

Who knows, maybe one day, that second chance will finally come his way.

But just as he feared, he won’t be alive to see it.

The 2023 second-round pick has thrown four touchdowns to six interceptions through four games this season. He’s also drawn some criticisms from head coach Brian Callahan, casting some doubt on his long-term viability as Titans starter.

Now to go with the ineffective play, Levis has a shoulder injury to deal with.

Sustained during the Titans-Dolphins Week 4 ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup, Levis dove and extended for a first down, landing on an outstretched arm. Levis would exit the game and enter the blue medical tent, but wouldn’t see the field the rest of the game.

Here’s what to know about Levis’ injury:

All things Titans: Latest Tennessee Titans news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

Will Levis injury update

During the Week 4 ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup, the Titans quarterback injured his right (throwing) shoulder after extending and diving for a first down in the first quarter.

He would exit the game and be looked at by medical staff. Levis would throw on the sideline and grab his helmet, but wouldn’t reenter the matchup.

Following the game, Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan shed some light on Levis’ injury, confirming that he injured his shoulder during the game and that the shoulder bothered him throughout the night. That said, Callahan doesn’t believe the injury is season-ending, and further testing will determine the severity.

‘We’ll do all the work on the precautionary stuff,’ Callahan said following the game. ‘I don’t think it’s gonna be anything too serious, other than just your normal AC-style injury. But we’ll see. I’ve been wrong before, so we’ll wait till the MRI and all that gets done, but I don’t think it’s a long-term issue for us.’

Callahan added that the Titans’ upcoming bye week factored into the decision to keeping Levis off the field, saying that the extra rest made the decision easier to keep him sidelined.

Veteran backup Mason Rudolph entered in relief of Levis, helping guide the Titans to a 31-12 win over Miami. To that end, Callahan added that Levis will remain the team’s starter when he’s healthy.

Titans QB depth chart

With Levis injured, the only quarterback currently rostered on the 53-man roster is Mason Rudolph. Rudolph finished 9-of-17 passing for 85 yards in relief of Levis in Week 4.

Will Levis stats

On 98 pass attempts in 2024, Levis has thrown for 604 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions on a 68.4 completion rate. He also rushed for 91 yards.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, said he traveled to China much less than he had initially highlighted in congressional hearings and media interviews.

‘I have been to China dozens of times,’ Walz said during a 2016 congressional hearing. ‘I’ve been there about 30 times,’ Walz told an agriculture-focused publication the same year.

However, a Harris-Walz campaign spokesperson recently acknowledged to Minnesota Public Radio that the number was ‘closer to 15 times.’

The revision comes amid growing scrutiny from GOP critics over Walz’s potential ties to the People’s Republic of China and its ruling Communist Party. Earlier this month, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., sent a letter renewing pressure on the FBI to produce documents related to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) entities or officials that Walz has purportedly engaged with in the past.

According to Walz’s own testimony, he first went to China in 1989 amid the Tiananmen Square uprising. Walz was part of the first delegation of American teachers to ever go to the communist nation during the trip. He was a participant in Harvard’s WorldTeach program, which gave Walz the opportunity to live and teach young students in China for a year.

Walz apparently enjoyed his time in China so much that after transitioning his teaching career to the U.S., Walz continued to take annual trips back to China with his students. Walz eventually set up a company with his wife Gwen, called Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., which was dedicated to taking students on trips to China and other international destinations. The two even honeymooned in China on one of their trips in 1993. Walz’s annual trips with students took place between 1993 and the early 2000s, before he began running for public office.

Walz and his wife dissolved their student-travel company after he won his seat in Congress in 2006. However, Walz’s China experience was a matter of pride for the now-vice presidential candidate when he was trying to join Congress.

Walz’s campaign website at the time, for instance, highlighted his work as a visiting fellow at Macau Polytechnic University, a university in China with ties to the CCP.

‘What we need in education, what we need in the military, and what we need when I’m fostering cultural exchanges with China, is real solutions,’ Walz also said when he debated incumbent GOP Rep. Gil Gutknecht in 2006, once again highlighting his work in China.

However, after Walz became Harris’ running mate this year, Minnesota Public Radio began trying to verify the ‘dozens’ of trips he claimed to have gone on. In the end, they could only verify that about 12 of them had actually occurred.

When the news outlet reached out to the Harris campaign for documentation proving the rest of Walz’s trips did indeed take place, instead of offering such proof they acknowledged that Walz had previously exaggerated the number of trips he took to China, and it was actually ‘closer to 15 times’ not ‘dozens of times.’

Besides apparently misrepresenting how many times he traveled to China, Walz has also been accused of misrepresenting his rank in the Army National Guard as well.

‘I’m a retired command sergeant major,’ Walz asserted while running for Congress in 2006. However, while Walz did serve briefly with that rank, he retired too early to keep it. Walz’s retirement also prevented him from deploying to the Middle East, another point of criticism against the vice presidential candidate who has suggested that he saw combat. Meanwhile, it has been alleged that Walz and his wife have made false assertions about their use of IVF as well.

A former national guard veteran who reportedly served with Walz told talk show host Megyn Kelly that they think Walz is a ‘habitual liar.’

‘He’s a habitual liar. He lies about everything. He lies about stuff that doesn’t make sense.’

Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris-Walz campaign but did not hear back prior to publication time.

MILWAUKEE — Simone Biles wants to go to another Olympics.

A Winter Olympics.

The 27-year-old hasn’t made any decisions about her gymnastics career or competing at the Los Angeles Games in 2028. Biles does know she’s going to take a break when her Gold Over America Tour – GOAT., get it? – wraps up in November, and is looking forward to doing things she’s never had time to before.

Cooking is a new passion. She’s got a restaurant, ‘Taste of Gold,’ opening soon at Houston Intercontinental Airport. She and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, are planning trips.

And after having lunch in Paris with skiing great Mikaela Shiffrin, Biles would like to attend a Winter Olympics.

‘It’s a little bit daunting because, for 20 years, I’ve only done gymnastics. To be real, that’s the only thing I know that I’m good at, because of the hours that I’ve put in,’ Biles told USA TODAY Sports. ‘So it is nice to explore other avenues. That’s really exciting, because you never know where life will take you. To have that time to explore is such a blessing.’

So, too, being able to celebrate her success.

Biles has said the Rio Olympics, where she won four gold medals and a bronze, were something of a blur. They were her first Games, and she was just 19. The Tokyo Olympics were more of a nightmare. Friends and family weren’t able to attend because of tight COVID restrictions, and Biles developed a case of ‘the twisties’ that forced her out of much of the competition.

But Paris allowed Biles a chance to have the full experience. Her family was in the stands as she won four more medals, three of them gold. Even Owens was there for the team and all-around finals after the Bears gave him permission to miss a few days of training camp. Biles stayed in the Olympic village and was able to go to other events after gymnastics was done.

Now her tour is packing arenas across the country, with fans young and old eager to see Biles and her fellow gymnasts in person.

The cast includes Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, fellow Olympians in both Tokyo and Paris. Josc Roberson and French Olympian Melanie de Jesus dos Santos, both of whom trained with Biles and Chiles in Houston, are also part of the show.

Biles also included male gymnasts in the show this time. Brody Malone, Frederick Richard and Paul Juda, who helped the U.S. men win their first Olympic medal since 2008, are joined by Tokyo Olympians Shane Wiskus and Yul Moldauer.

‘This one is just electric. Everyone has such great energy,’ Biles said. ‘A lot of people are still on highs from the Olympics, from their success. So it just feels so much different (from 2021).’

With much of the country still under COVID restrictions then, both crowd sizes and the gymnasts’ interactions with the fans were limited. And because of Biles’ experience in Tokyo, the show centered around themes of mental health and being confident.

While those messages are still present in the current show – in one number, some of the nasty messages Biles got in Tokyo are flashed on the giant video board. In another, each of the Olympians is asked how they’ve gotten to where they are or how they’ve overcome challenges – this year’s tour is much more of a spectacle.

‘It’s a celebration, and that’s what we wanted to do,’ Biles said. ‘And you can tell everyone’s having a good time.’

The two-hour show is filled with (mostly) upbeat songs, lively dance numbers and light shows. The gymnastics are watered down from what the athletes would do in competition, but the audience at the Fiserv Forum on Saturday night didn’t care.

They shrieked when they heard Chiles’ floor music from Paris, laughed at Wiskus doing a wolf turn on the balance beam and oohed and aahed as the guys performed on the high bar and pommel horse.

And unlike in 2021, the gymnasts got to interact with fans when they weren’t performing. Ellie Black, a four-time Olympian from Canada, slapped hands with fans in the lower rows after finishing her part in one number. The cast took selfies and signed autographs after the show was over.

‘After this Olympics, everyone kind of has been relishing and like, ‘OK, this is what we did in Paris. Let’s celebrate this for as long as possible, till we look forward for the next goal,’’ Biles said.

She doesn’t know what that is yet. But she’s looking forward to finding out.

Now that we’re a quarter of the way through the 2024 fantasy football season, there are only two ways to improve your rosters — waivers and trades.

Evaluating a fantasy trade can be a daunting task. Most managers value their players more than their actual worth. That’s where the Week 5 fantasy football trade value charts come in.

The charts can be used as your very own fantasy football trade analyzer in standard, half-PPR (point per reception), and full PPR leagues. Someone sends you an offer? Simply pull out a calculator (on your phone, you don’t need an actual calculator) and plug in the values for each player. Don’t worry, six-points-per-passing-touchdown and superflex leagues are covered as well.

These value charts are based on my fantasy football rest of season rankings and projections.

Important note: If you’re offered an uneven trade (I.e., a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1), include the values for the players you’d be moving to the bench or dropping within your calculation. For example: If someone offers you Davante Adams, Nick Chubb, and Kareem Hunt (combined value of 44) for Kenneth Walker (37), it might look like you’re getting the better end of it. However, if you’re bumping down, say, Dontayvion Wicks and Braelon Allen (combined value of 13) in the process, it’s a net negative deal for you.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

The rankings are based on how players should be valued in 12-team leagues. Players are sorted in order of their half-PPR values.

(NOTE: App users might need to switch to a browser if the charts aren’t showing up.)

Overall Week 5 fantasy football rest of season rankings

– Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., is demanding that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) immediately fire the at least a dozen employees who reportedly improperly accessed the medical records of vice presidential candidates Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz this summer.

Mast, chairman of Veterans For Trump, penned a letter urging VA Secretary Denis McDonough for a ‘swift response and action to prevent such egregious violations of privacy within the VA from occurring again.’ The Florida Republican is also calling for the FBI to get involved to investigate the possibility of foreign election interference.

‘I urge you to buck the employee union of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and immediately fire the employees who were caught snooping into the private medical records of Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz – who are both running to be vice president. VA employees know this is not permitted,’ Mast wrote in a letter first obtained by Fox News Digital. ‘As a combat-injured veteran, I rely on the VA for my medical care. This isn’t just a legal misstep; it’s a breach that undermines veterans’ confidence in the VA and raises serious questions about the professionalism of VA personnel.’

The Washington Post first reported Monday that at least 12 VA employees within the agency’s health administration were under criminal investigation after VA investigators discovered they improperly accessed the medical records of Vance and Walz. VA Inspector General Michael Missal’s office reportedly informed both candidates’ campaigns and shared evidence with federal prosecutors related to several of the health system employees, including a physician and a contractor who ‘spent extended time’ viewing the files of former President Trump and Vice President Harris’ running mates.

‘Dismissing these employees and referring them to the Justice Department for prosecution, provided there is evidence that laws were broken, is the first step the VA must take to restore credibility,’ Mast wrote. ‘Furthermore, I urge you to fully brief Congress on how this violation of privacy transpired and implement new guidelines to prevent such acts from occurring in the future.’

Mast, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, implored McDonough to coordinate with the FBI.

The letter comes a week after Trump’s campaign said he was briefed on ‘real and specific threats’ from Iran to assassinate the Republican presidential nominee.

‘Given the recent foreign meddling in our elections – like Iran’s assassination plots against President Trump – I also request your department coordinate with the FBI to ensure Senator Vance and Governor Walz’s medical information was neither shared with foreign operatives nor accessed on their behalf,’ Mast, who served in the U.S. Army for 12 years and lost both legs to catastrophic injuries endured while working as a bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan, wrote. ‘Safeguarding sensitive information about our public officials is critical to national security and the integrity of our democracy.’

Last month, experts from the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a summary of the current threat environment citing how the ‘big three foreign influence actors, Russia, Iran, and China are all trying by some measure to exacerbate divisions in U.S. society for their own benefit, and see election periods as moments of vulnerability.’

‘Like Russia, Iran has a multi-pronged approach that looks to stoke discord and undermine confidence in our electoral process. Tehran has also sought cyber access to individuals with direct ties to the presidential campaigns of both political parties, while elements have also denigrated the former president,’ they said. ‘Iran has a suite of tools at its disposal, as demonstrated in recent reports outlining Iran’s cyber operations, including the hack-and-leak operation against the former president’s campaign. Iran is also conducting covert social media operations using fake personas, and is using AI to help publish inauthentic news articles.’

Fox News Digital reached out to the VA and the FBI regarding Mast’s letter.

Regarding the Post’s reporting on Monday, VA Press Secretary Terrence Hayes said in a statement that the agency ‘reported to law enforcement allegations that VA personnel may have improperly accessed Veteran records’ and takes ‘the privacy of the Veterans we serve very seriously and have strict policies in place to protect their records.’

‘Any attempt to improperly access Veteran records by VA personnel is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,’ Hayes wrote.

The potential motive for accessing the medical records is under investigation, and investigators are still trying to determine if Vance and Walz’s information was shared as a result of the breaches, the Post reported.

The VA employees under investigation, including the physician and contractor, accessed the medical records using their VA computers and did so mostly from their government offices, sources told the newspaper. Some of the staffers in question reportedly told investigators they were simply curious to see the files of Vance and Walz given both candidates have defended their military records on the campaign trail.

The Department of Justice declined to comment about the report. The breach reportedly did not include access to any disability compensation, which has more security protocols than health information.

As Jimmy Carter celebrates his 100th birthday Tuesday, perhaps he is feeling a bit like Mark Twain, who was one of the few people in history who read his own obituary – hearing from the New York Journal in 1897 that he had died. His response to the reporter was, ‘I have heard on good authority that I was dead.’ Yet he corrected the record with the reply, ‘The report of my death was an exaggeration.’

A quick internet search today simultaneously shows articles about a concert in honor of President Carter’s 100th birthday on Oct. 1 – as well as an article announcing his death in May 2023, which is still posted.

Even the Democratic National Committee omitted Carter in a post celebrating living Democrat presidents this past year. In their ‘Happy President’s Day’ post they included Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, but forgot about President Carter.

Yet I have heard on good authority that any reports of Carter’s death are premature. In fact, today is a day for Carter – and all of America to celebrate and commemorate.

Regardless of whether the internet or the DNC acknowledges it, Carter is poised to make history again today. In his first milestone, he long ago became the only president of the United States to make it to the age of 95 and now, will remarkably turn 100 – not only surpassing the presidential record, but reaching an achievement that only 0.02% of Americans ever reach – and only one-fifth of those are male.

Remarkably, though he entered hospice care in February 2023, Carter continues to beat the odds and even outlived his wife, Rosalynn, who only survived a few days in hospice care, passing away at the age of 96 in November 2023. Jimmy Carter continues to break his own record of longevity with each additional day.

Being part of the elite club of presidents of the United States is already a remarkable achievement. Yet beyond that, out of all the presidents, only six have made it to the age of 90. Surprisingly, after the first president, George Washington, passed away at the young age of 67, his successor, our second president, John Adams, lived to the age of 90, appropriately passing away on July 4, 1826.

Other presidential nonagenarians included our 31st president, Herbert Hoover, who lived to be 90, our 38th and 40th presidents, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan, who both lived to the age of 93, and our 41st president, George H.W. Bush, who lived to be 94.

Carter alone has surpassed that milestone many years ago and will be celebrated today as the first POTUS to turn 100 – America’s first presidential centenarian.

Despite our many differences politically and our challenges personally today, America remains a land of opportunity and possibility for lives that are full and long.

Born James Earl Carter Jr. to a mother who was a nurse, and a father was a farmer who ran a general store – President Carter was raised in impoverished, rural Plains, Georgia. His father gave him an acre of land on which he grew peanuts, which he packaged and sold as an enterprising teenager.

Carter went to the Naval Academy, giving him an opportunity to leave Plains, yet after a career in the Navy, in state politics, and in the White House, he returned to Plains in January 1981 and has remained there ever since. Many Americans relate to Carter, finding home and comfort in the small towns that dot our great nation, rather than the big cities adorning its coasts.

In many ways, Carter is quintessentially American in his love for this country and his love of God. He embodies the American dream, which afforded him every opportunity to find a big life beyond the city limits of Plains.

And while he achieved many of those dreams, in the end he chose to return to the place where he began. A place of simplicity, not stardom. A place of land, not luxury.

Though Jimmy Carter stood on the world stage, he is – and has always been – most at home in Plains, Georgia, the place where he was born 100 years ago, and the place he will be buried and remain when the God he has faithfully served throughout his life finally calls him to his eternal home.

Happy 100th birthday, Mr. President.
