AUSTIN, Texas — Christian Pulisic has already made quite the impression on his new boss.

Pulisic is “one of the best offensive players in the world,” new U.S. men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino said Friday. That’s not exactly a shocking revelation, given the season Pulisic is having at AC Milan.

He has six goals in nine games, and his five in Serie A are tied for third-most in the league. He also has two assists, meaning he’s had a hand in half of AC Milan’s goals this season.

But knowing he has a player of Pulisic’s caliber will make Pochettino’s task a little easier.

This is his first time coaching a national team, however, and there are less than two years before the next World Cup — a tournament the United States just so happens to be co-hosting with Canada and Mexico. Given that the future of American soccer will be shaped by how the USMNT fares in 2026, it is no small thing that Pochettino begins his tenure already knowing who the cornerstone of his team is.

“A great player. A fantastic player,” Pochettino said of Pulisic. “A player that is going to help us now and in the future, to put the team in a place that we want.”

The USMNT plays Panama on Saturday night in Pochettino’s first game, followed by another friendly Tuesday in Mexico against El Tri.

The USMNT has long relied on Pulisic, who seems like he’s been around forever despite just turning 26 last month. He is, without question, the most impressive player the United States has ever produced. His lists of firsts — first American to play in a Champions League final, first American to score in a Champions League semifinal, youngest player to score for the U.S. men, etc., etc. — is as long as his list of goals scored.

But the run he’s on now is the stuff players can only dream of. In his last 11 games for club and country, going back to August, he’s had a goal or an assist in all but three of them.

“It’s tough to explain,” Pulisic said. “I think you have moments in your career where it feels like everything you touch goes in. And you have other times when it feels like you’re trying everything and the ball just won’t go in. As an attacking player, we’ve all gone through it. So I’m just trying to live in that moment right now, when things seem to be going well and just continue like this.

“It’s a result of all the work I put in my whole life,” Pulisic added. “So it shouldn’t be a surprise. I know I have this ability and I’m just kind of riding that high, I guess.”

Despite his success, Pulisic has always been a reluctant superstar. Though he seems to be growing more comfortable with the commercial side of his job ahead of 2026 — he’s appearing in more commercials and has revealed a little more of his personal life on social media — it will never be a role he relishes.

“I still struggle with that stuff,” he said. “I guess I think it’s important for me to step out of my comfort zone a little bit.”

The larger challenge is going to be managing Pulisic’s workload, something Pochettino is uniquely suited for.

There has long been a tension between club and country. Players want to play for their country, and success with their national team can elevate a player’s profile. But it is the clubs who pay the players’ salaries and with whom they spend most of their time. If a player loses fitness while on national team duty or gets hurt, God forbid, it’s the club that suffers.

As a longtime club coach and now a national team manager, Pochettino is keenly aware of the balance that has to be struck.

Pulisic arrived at USMNT camp this week after playing three games in 10 days for AC Milan. When he returns, Milan has four games in 10 days, including a Champions League match. Add in 12-hour-plus travel days coming and going, and it’s no surprise Pulisic was, as Pochettino described it, ‘a little bit tired’ when he arrived at camp.

“Sometimes we need to protect (him),” Pochettino said. “… We are not going to take a risk with our players.”

With any of them. But especially not one as important to the USMNT, and Pochettino’s task, as Pulisic.

Cameron and Cayden Boozer are taking the same college path their father once took to a national championship.

The fraternal twin sons of former NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer announced on social media Friday their commitment to play college basketball at Duke under coach Jon Scheyer.

Cameron Boozer, listed at 6-9, is considered the No. 2 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class in the 247 Sports Composite rankings, and he has been pegged by NBA scouts for years as a future top-five NBA draft pick. Cayden Boozer, a 6-4 point guard, is also considered a top-25 recruit in his class and could go in the lottery by the 2026 NBA draft.

The brothers reportedly chose Duke over their hometown school, Miami.

Carlos Boozer played three seasons at Duke for former coach Mike Krzyzewski (1999-2002) and scored more than 1,500 points. He was a member of Duke’s 2001 national championship team and went on to a 13-year career in the NBA with four different teams.

Cameron and Cayden Boozer have put together a prolific prep career to this point, winning high school state championships at Christopher Columbus High School in Miami and Nike EYBL championships with their Florida-based AAU team the past three years. They also won gold medals playing for USA Basketball in two different age groups.

It’s another big recruiting splash for Scheyer and Duke. The Blue Devils go into this season with a roster featuring Cooper Flagg, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft. The Boozer Twins are slated to join the program for the 2025-26 campaign.

‘Cameron Crazies, be ready for next season,’ Cayden Boozer said into the camera as both he and Cameron wore Duke jackets in a video posted to social media announcing their decision.

Vice President Kamala Harris will release a report detailing her medical history and health information on Saturday in an effort to prompt the same from former President Donald Trump.

The detailed report will conclude, ‘She possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,’ according to a senior campaign aide.

Harris advisers insist that the report is an opportunity to spotlight Trump’s health and mental acuity, since the 78-year-old Republican nominee would be the oldest president at the end of his potential second term, the aide said.

President Biden, 81, withdrew from the 2024 presidential election in July amid pressure from the Democratic Party given concerns over his advanced age and visible fatigue. Since then, Democrats have sought to go on offense against Trump with what was once their election vulnerability.

The decision to release Harris’ medical information comes after a New York Times report asserted that Trump has not been transparent with his own health, even after a would-be assassin’s bullet grazed his head at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania this past July.

Trump did not release his medical records in his first White House campaign in 2016, the report notes. Neither did the Trump White House release accurate updates on his condition after a 2020 COVID diagnosis, with reports detailing that the president was more sick than his doctors said in public, according to the report.

‘In 2024, days before becoming the official Republican presidential nominee for the third time, he was grazed by a would-be assassin’s bullet, yet his campaign did not hold a briefing on his condition, release hospital records or make the emergency physicians who treated him available for interview,’ the report said. It goes on to quote several medical experts who raise concerns that Trump could enter the Oval Office in a second term with several ‘potentially worrisome issues.’

The last health update from Trump came in November 2023, when his personal doctor, Bruce Aronwald, said in a letter Trump’s ‘overall health is excellent.’

‘His physical exams were well within the normal range and his cognitive exams were exceptional,’ Aronwald wrote.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During an August interview with CBS News, Trump insisted that he would ‘gladly’ release his medical records, noting at the time that he had a ‘perfect score’ on a recent medical exam.

The U.S. congressman representing one of the areas hit hardest by Helene is raising concerns about the deadly storm’s impact on voter access in the region.

‘There will likely be some people out there that, for one reason or another, will not be able to exercise their most important constitutional right,’ Rep. Chuck Edwards, R-N.C., told Fox News Digital in an interview Friday.

Edwards is urging his constituents to make plans now, sending out a press release to residents of his district roughly three weeks before Election Day, asking those who intend to vote to start figuring out how they will do so.

‘I’ll also follow up with folks in the area and make offers to help get transportation for those folks that feel like they might not have a normal life or a transportation style to make it to the polls,’ Edwards said.

‘I’m concerned. But I also have a lot of confidence with the folks in the area to help folks exercise that constitutional right. We just have to start thinking about it now. We can’t wait till the last minute, as too many times we’re accustomed to doing.’

Hurricane Helene tore through the Southeast two weeks ago, leaving billions of dollars of destruction and more than 230 people dead across multiple states.

Edwards estimated his district alone has seen ‘about 100 deaths’ but noted many were still missing.

‘About 9,200 acres of western North Carolina was affected in 28 counties. About 6,000 of that is right here in my district,’ he said.

In addition to the devastation to life and property, however, the storm could have potentially severe ramifications for the election. North Carolina and Georgia, two of the hardest-hit states, emerged as battlegrounds in the 2020 presidential race.

About 17% of North Carolina’s registered voters are in the counties designated as Helene disaster areas, according to Michael Bitzer, a professor of politics and history at Catawba College.

‘Folks are still in the process of putting their lives together, desperately trying to get their power back on, trying to get in touch with their loved ones, trying to dig out from the debris and not really thinking that there’s an election coming up here in three weeks or so,’ Edwards said.

‘So, what I’m encouraging everyone to do is to start thinking about that now, to request an absentee ballot if you don’t think you’re going to be able to get to a poll or to plan to vote early.’

The North Carolina state legislature is already moving to mitigate possible issues.

State lawmakers approved $5 million in emergency funding for the State Board of Elections to deal with the storm’s effects, and they also expanded emergency measures put in place by the election board that allow counties to modify early voting days and locations.

On the federal level, Edwards said he would give the government’s response a ‘C-minus.’

‘This storm was over about 10 a.m. on Friday, and it was into Tuesday before we saw the first boots on the ground from FEMA, before we saw the first helicopters with food and water,’ he said.

Asked about outreach from U.S. leaders, Edwards said President Biden called him earlier on Friday but left a voicemail. He did not indicate whether he’d return the call.

‘It was maybe a 10-second clip going, ‘Attaboy. Keep up the good work. We’re thinking about you,’’ Edwards said.

The Cybersecurity ETF (CIBR) is resuming the lead as it surged to new highs this past week. It is important to note that CIBR began its leadership role a lot earlier because it hit a new high in late August. Today’s report will analyze the recent breakout and suggest some possibilities in the future.

First notice that the Technology SPDR (XLK) and five tech-related ETFs are leading in October (semis, cybersecurity, software, fintech and cloud). They are up 2% or more and easily outperforming the major index ETFs (SPY,QQQ,IWM). The tech ETFs underperformed in July-August and are now getting their mojo back.

I featured CIBR in Art’s Charts on September 14th, demonstrating how to use the Percent above MA (5, 200) to define the trend and reduce whipsaws. In an long-term uptrend, stocks and ETFs experience both trending and non-trending periods, with the latter often lasting longer.

The chart below shows CIBR trending higher from late October 2023 to mid-February 2024, less than four months. A non-trending period followed and lasted over six months. Most recently, the ETF broke out of this range and entered a new trending period. I expect this trending period to last a few months and prices to extend higher.

The breakout zone around 59 (red line) turns into the first support area to watch in case of a throwback. Throwbacks occur when prices fall back to the resistance zone after a breakout. Overall, support is marked in the 59-60 area, and a pullback to this zone would provide a second chance to participate in the breakout.

TrendInvestorPro is focused CIBR, tech-related ETFs and tech stocks as they move from corrective non-trending periods to trending periods. We think the market is looking past the elections and toward seasonal patterns, which soon turn bullish. Opportunity awaits! Click here to learn more.

LOS ANGELES — The boisterous Los Angeles Dodgers fans stood on their feet Friday night, screamed so loud it could be heard in Pasadena and watched their beloved team wildly celebrate its biggest victory in years.

The Dodgers, in perhaps the most anticipated season in franchise history, took a giant step toward the World Series by swatting away the San Diego Padres, winning 2-0 in Game 5 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium.

Next up: The New York Mets, who they will face Sunday in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.

“We didn’t come here to win the NL West,’ said Dodgers center fielder Enrique Hernandez, whose homer in the second inning was all they needed. “We came to win the World Series.’’

Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the $325 million man, rose to the occasion just when his team needed him the most.

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

He was brilliant for five innings, just giving up two hits and a walk, proving that the Dodgers made the right call giving him the ball despite his struggles against the Padres in Game 1.

The bullpen did the rest, and when the smoke cleared, the Dodgers had shut out the Padres in 24 consecutive innings.

The only time Yamamoto was ever in trouble was in the third inning when Kyle Higashioka and Luis Arráez produced back-to-back one-out singles, bringing up Fernando Tatis Jr., who has tormented the Dodgers.

Yamamoto fell behind 3-and-1 but got Tatis to hit a weak ground ball to third baseman Max Muncy, starting a double play.

It was the last sign of life from the Padres’ offense.

The Padres’ power outage ruined Yu Darvish’s spectacular outing – in which he and Yamamoto were the first Japanese pitchers to face one another in a postseason game. Darvish gave up just three hits and two runs in 6⅔ innings and overpowered Shohei Ohtani, who struck out three times Friday.

“For us to be able to go out there and pitch on the same day, a playoff game,’ Darvish said before his start, “it means a lot. … I think the level of baseball in Japan has risen and it’s actually showing over here. So, it’s really good to see all these players that come over here be successful.’

These pitchers were so dominant that they retired 26 consecutive batters at one juncture, the longest streak in a single game in MLB postseason history.

Despite the brilliant pitching, it was the Hernández duo who stole the show.

Darvish had retired 14 consecutive batters after giving up the home run to Enrique Hernández, and then gave up another homer to cleanup hitter Teoscar Hernández on a 2-and-1 slider with one out in the seventh inning.

“This,’ Teoscar Hernández said, “is why I came here.’’

Still, it was Enrique Hernández who set the tone for the game. He was on the field two hours before game time, getting ready for batting practice, when he was summoned by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Andrew Friedman, president of baseball operations.

They talked intently by the batting cage for about 10 minutes, Hernandez excused himself, took a round of batting practice, and the conversation continued for another five minutes.

Well, whatever was said, whatever was expressed, whatever secrets that were exchanged, worked like a charm.

Hernández, jumping on the first pitch he saw from Darvish, sent his 94.7-mph fastball 429 feet away into the left-field seats. It was just the latest chapter of his October heroics. He now has 14 career postseason home runs.

“The way I see it,’ Hernández said, “is these types of games are the ones we’ve been dreaming of since we were little kids. You’ve got to have the right mindset, the right mentality, to come in here and just find a way to dominate the day.

“I think something that’s worked for me is the fact that I’ve had a lot of experience in these moments.’

The secret sauce, Hernández said, is visualizing success when he goes to bed the night before the game.

“There’s anxiety and things like that that we go through as athletes, especially in big situations, big games, especially in October’ Hernández said. ‘And whenever you feel that little anxiety or whatever it is creep in, you just go back to visualizing yourself having success.

“You just find a way, whatever it is that you’ve got to find, so that when the big moment shows up, and you step up to the plate or whatever it is, you don’t let the moment get too big. You feel like you’re bigger than the moment and there’s no moment that’s going to get too big for you.

“That’s my mentality.’

This entire Dodgers team, of course, has been visualizing a World Series since spring training. They now find themselves eight victories away from finally having their first World Series parade since 1988.

The Dodgers won the World Series in 2020, but that was in the height of the pandemic, winning the championship at a neutral site in Arlington, Texas, returning home, and going back into isolation.

“If there’s something that this crowd is,’’ Enrique Hernandez said, “it’s hungry. They want a championship. They want another one. The one we had a couple years back, the city didn’t get to celebrate it because of obvious circumstances.

“We know how bad they want it.’

The only team that stands in their way now of a World Series berth is the Mets, the same team they stunned in 1988 in the NLCS before winning the World Series against the Oakland A’s.

But now that they’ve knocked off the Padres, who ended their season two years ago, they believe nothing can stop them.

“We have a lot of people that believe in each other,’’ Enrique Hernandez said. “We have a bullpen that does not care at all whatsoever, and they’re nasty. We have a high-octane offense.

“We’re hungry. We want it. We’re in it together.’

Here’s how Friday’s game unfolded at Dodger Stadium:

FINAL: Dodgers 2, Padres 0

Getting another dominant pitching performance, the Los Angeles Dodgers punched their ticket to the NLCS with a 2-0 win over the San Diego Padres in Game 5 of the NLDS on Friday.

Starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave the Dodgers five scoreless innings and the game’s only runs came on solo homers from Enrique Hernandez and Teoscar Hernandez.

Vesia injured during warmups, Michael Kopech handles eighth

Warming up for the top of the eighth inning, Dodgers lefty Alex Vesia had a sudden injury and was removed from the game, having recorded the final out in the seventh.

With a 2-0 lead, Michael Kopech came in for the Dodgers in the biggest game of his career and retired the Padres 1-2-3.

Teoscar Hernández home run makes it 2-0

San Diego brought Yu Darvish back out for the seventh inning and with one out, Teoscar Hernández crushed a solo home run to double the Dodgers’ lead.

In his first year with the Dodgers, Hernandez finished the regular season with a career best-33 homers and won the 2024 Home Run Derby.

Bottom 7: Dodgers 1, Padres 0

Evan Phillips retired all five batters he faced, striking out 3, and gave way to lefty Alex Vesia for the next leg of the Dodgers’ bullpen relay with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Vesia struck out rookie sensation Jackson Merrill to send the game to the bottom of the seventh.

Yamamoto done after 5 scoreless, Evan Phillips in for Dodgers

Exceeding even the most optimistic of expectations, Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched five shutout innings in Game 5, giving up just two hits with one walk, handing off to Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips for the sixth.

Dodgers lead 1-0 through four

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has tossed four scoreless innings in the biggest game of his (brief) MLB career, while Enrique Hernández’s solo home run in the second remains the only scoring so far.

Enrique Hernández home run puts Dodgers ahead

After Will Smith grounded into a double play, Enrique Hernández crushed a solo home run to left field to put the Dodgers ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second.

It was the 14th career postseason homer for Hernández, who is playing in the playoffs for the ninth time.

Yamamoto through two scoreless innings

Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto needed just 24 pitches – 17 strikes – to get through the first two innings in Game 5. The $325 man hasn’t given up a hit but walked Xander Bogaerts with two outs in the top of the second.

Dodgers vs. Padres Game 5 underway

Yoshinobu Yamamoto set the Padres down 1-2-3 to begin Game 5 at Dodger Stadium with a groundout from Luis Arraez, a strikeout of Fernando Tatis Jr. and a Jurickson Profar lineout.

Dave Roberts couldn’t have asked for a better first inning.

Yu Darvish vs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto in historic game for Japanese pitchers

Friday’s matchup is the first postseason game started by two Japanese pitchers.

“It’s a great thing that we’re able to go at it with each other in Game 5 of an NLDS game,” Padres starter Yu Darvish said ahead of his start against countryman Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

“At a personal level, I’m really good friends with him as well.”

Said Padres manager Mike Shildt: “It’s a big deal. … What I love about this series, beyond the fact we’re going into a really cool Game 5, is the fact that Major League Baseball has done a fantastic job of making this an international game.

“I grew up, it was America’s game and hot dogs and apple pie and I guess I could put a plug-in for Chevrolet. But now it’s just an international game. The whole country of Japan is going to be watching and rightfully so. I think it’s fantastic that our game has those tentacles now.”

Dodgers pitchers for Game 5

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for the Dodgers, but isn’t expected to pitch deep into the game. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters that “everyone is up” in the bullpen and confirmed that starter Jack Flaherty is available if needed in Game 5.

“I think for Yoshinobu, it’s just kind of from the outset,” Roberts said. “You know it’s not a 110-pitch exercise, 100-pitch exercise; it’s go out there and rip it from pitch one. I think with that mindset, I think that will bode well.

Padres pitchers for Game 5

Yu Darvish will start Friday for the Padres and manager Mike Shildt said pregame that the San Diego bullpen is ready to go.

‘We’ve got Yu going. Trust him completely,’ Shildt said. ‘We have our back-end guys ready to go. They’re ready. Even though they pitched yesterday or the day before they’re ready. They’re definitely rested. We’re excited to have them get after it and bring it home.

San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NHL draft, is being evaluated for a lower-body injury and missed the team’s practice Friday.

Coach Ryan Warsofsky said he didn’t know if Celebrini would be available for the Sharks’ home game Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks because he was being evaluated. Celebrini had been dealing with a lower-body injury during training camp and the preseason. Warsofsky didn’t provide additional comment on the circumstances.

Celebrini, 18, made history in his NHL debut, scoring a goal and an assist in the Sharks’ 5-4 overtime loss at home to the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.

The goal came 7:01 into the game, when he tried a pass from the right circle to teammate William Eklund in the slot. The puck deflected off Blues defenseman Matt Kessel’s leg and went past goaltender Joel Hofer.

It was the second-fastest goal for a No. 1 pick in his debut, bested only by Mario Lemieux’s score 2:59 into his first game for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

All things Sharks: Latest San Jose Sharks news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

Celebrini is the sixth-youngest player, at 18 years, 119 days, to score in his NHL debut.

He added his first assist to Tyler Toffoli at the 17:14 mark of the first period.

Last season, he was a freshman at Boston University. Celebrini had 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) in 38 games. At 17, he became the youngest player to win the Hobey Baker Award, voted as the top men’s player in the NCAA.

I was asked recently about volume, specifically why I don’t feature volume often on my daily market recap show, CHART THIS with David Keller, CMT.  I replied that when I was learning the technical analysis toolkit earlier in my career, I very much paid attention to volume indicators.

But in the years to follow, I developed a process that focused more on trend and momentum, and I felt the approach worked quite well despite the lack of volume inputs.  But there is one indicator that has been fairly successful at recognizing market turns over the last year, and it’s a chart I will be following closely in the weeks to come.

Volume to Chaikin Money Flow

First, let’s talk about how we measure volume over time.  The easiest way to represent volume is with the daily volume bars, helping us determine if today’s volume is above or below average.  And while that can be helpful for navigating the short-term environment, it doesn’t help us assess how volume is evolving over time.

Famous strategist Joe Granville developed the concept of “On Balance Volume” where he created a cumulative total of volume by adding up days’ volume and subtracting down days’ volume.  Similar to an advance-decline line, it does help to indicate the general directional trend in volume.

The issue here is that we’re taking an entire day’s volume and considering it all bullish or all bearish, depending on whether the close was higher than yesterday.  What about if we finished at the high or the low of the day.  Shouldn’t that matter in some way?

An Advance-Decline Line for Volume

Another legendary technician, Marc Chaikin, improved on Granville’s work by looking at every day’s price bar.  If the close was closer to the high, then that day’s volume should be worth more in the running total.  And if the close was near the middle of the range, that day’s volume should be worth less in the calculation.

Now we can see the running total of daily volume, but with more value given to the days with highs near the high or low for the day.  So big up days and down days become much more important when we consider the overall trend in volume.

When the indicator is above zero it’s shaded green, and long-term uptrends often feature extended periods of green.  When the indicator is below zero, represented with the red shading, this suggests a period of distribution as the down volume appears heavier.

Watching for Volume Divergences

While crossing below the zero line would represent a general rotation in volume from more accumulation to distribution, the real benefit of this indicator is in the early warning sign based on divergence.

As the market was moving higher in July 2023 into the eventual August high, we saw a decline in the Chaikin Money Flow.  We observed a similar pattern in March 2024, as the SPY pushed higher even as the CMF was trending lower, as well as in July 2024.

Notice how the current reading shows the Chaikin Money Flow reading as still quite strong for the S&P 500?  This suggests that the market is still in a position of strength, given the stronger bullish volume in recent weeks.  But this chart also tells us to keep a wary eye on the CMF in the coming weeks.  Because a bearish divergence here could provide an early warning sign to mindful investors staying attuned to the rhythm of the markets.
