Bronny James made history with his father, LeBron James, during the NBA preseason. They are teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers after the franchise used a second-round pick on Bronny James in the 2024 NBA draft and became the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA game on Oct. 6.

But the start of the 2024-25 regular season also represents another recovery milestone for Bronny James. He is just 15 months removed from going into cardiac arrest during a workout last July and the incident still affects him now as an NBA rookie.

“My days aren’t normal anymore,” Bronny James said in a Men’s Health magazine cover story. “I still feel like I’m getting back, I’m getting back to where I was.”

So what happened to the oldest of LeBron James’ three children? With Bronny James able to make his regular-season debut with the Lakers as early as next week’s opener, here’s what to know about the life-threatening medical scare that makes his arrival in the NBA all the more remarkable:

Bronny James cardiac arrest: What happened?

Bronny James went into cardiac arrest on July 24, 2023 during a USC offseason workout and was hospitalized for three days in Los Angeles.

The James family announced on Aug. 25 that doctors had determined Bronny James’ cardiac arrest had been caused by a congenital heart defect. LeBron James later told reporters his son underwent surgery once there was a diagnosis. The family said Bronny James was cleared to resume basketball on Nov. 30 and he made his USC debut on Dec. 10.

“They are the reason Bronny is alive now and smiling and thriving and doing what any 19-year-old should be doing – that’s living out their dream,” James said .

“It’s crazy with kids, like when they love and want something, that’s all that matters to them. As a parent, you’re like, ‘You had a cardiac arrest.’ In his mind, he’s like, ‘Can I or can I not play ball again?’ And if the answer is yes, ‘When can I play ball again?’ Like, I love that.”

What Bronny James said about cardiac arrest

Bronny James hasn’t spoken often about what he endured coming back from his cardiac arrest, or the aftereffects of dealing with a congenital heart defect. So the profile in Men’s Health was notable for the glimpse James provided into how the incident changed his life.

The 6-foot-2 guard admitted he considered initially if his basketball career might be over. “There were a whole lot of emotions,” he said.

“I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff. It was a total reset,” James added.

He also mentioned having to take heart medications and needing “my heart pillow.”

“When I coughed, it used to hurt a little bit,” James explained, “but you get this pillow, and when you cough you just hold it so it doesn’t hurt.”

Bronny James preseason stats

Bronny James appeared in the Lakers’ first five preseason games. Here’s a look at his stats thus far:

12.4 minutes/game
4 of 20 from the field
0 of 7 from 3-point range
6 rebounds
4 blocks
5 turnovers
1 assist

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez – who managed chronic knee issues to be an integral part of Inter Miami’s success this season – says his representatives are in talks with the Major League Soccer club to return in 2025.

Suarez signed a one-year deal worth $1.5 million to join close friends and former Barcelona standouts Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba with Inter Miami. And he’s open to playing with them again next season.

“I know that my lawyer is talking to the club, but with a calm mind to finish the season,” Suarez said during a press conference Friday.

Suarez, 37, added he wants to finish this season “in the best possible way” and show the club he “feels good physically” and “with the desire to continue being part of the history of this club.”

While Suarez has a case to win MLS MVP this season, he will more likely win MLS Newcomer of the Year. Suarez leads the club with 22 goals in all competitions, including 18 during the MLS season.

The club has won the MLS Supporters’ Shield, and will attempt to set the league record for points in a season in Saturday’s season finale against the New England Revolution.

More important, Suarez has been available despite knee issues that have plagued his career. He has been sidelined in just three Inter Miami matches this season. He missed five others while away with Uruguay during Copa America earlier this summer.

“All the top players like Luis that we can have and put together, so much the better,” Inter Miami coach Tata Martino said of Suarez’ desire to re-sign. “So surely, if the possibility arises, that will happen.”

Suarez, nicknamed “El Pistolero” and often celebrating his goals with a right hand mimicking a pistol, is Uruguay’s all-time leading scorer with 69 goals in 143 matches.

He scored the game-tying goal against Canada to force a penalty shootout, helping Uruguay finish in third place during Copa America on July 14. He retired from the national team in September.

Suarez has scored 580 goals for club and country in his career. Only 11 players in the sport’s history have scored more than him.

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris’ campaign is set to air new ads on fantasy sports, sports betting and sports news sites, marking a major push before the November election, USA TODAY Sports has learned.

The ads are scheduled to air Friday morning and are part of the campaign’s push to reach potential male voters, the campaign said. The ads will appear on video game websites like IGN, the world’s biggest media games site, and Fandom, as well as Yahoo Sports. The campaign also says it’s the first to advertise on DraftKings.

The campaign is also advertising on more than 100 mobile video games.

The new ads will air digitally as part of the campaign’s $370 million fall paid media effort targeting voters from across battleground states. In this case the campaign is aiming at gamers and gamblers.

The video and gambling universe is a potentially rich environment for the campaign, particularly since it says it wants to reach more men. DraftKings had approximately 18 million monthly website visitors in the United States, with about 75% of visitors being men. Fandom gets over 700 million visits per month in the U.S., with approximately two-thirds of that audience being men.

Also, IGN gets over 120 million website visits per month in the U.S. with 72% of that site’s visitors being men.

The Democratic National Committee on Friday rolled out a Taylor Swift-themed ‘I Will Vote’ campaign to target young voters across battleground states with just over two weeks until Election Day.

The DNC’s ‘I Will Vote’ campaign includes a new Snapchat filter urging young voters to be ‘fearless’ on issues that Democrats say ‘will decide this election,’ including reproductive rights and the economy, while urging them to ‘learn how to cast their ballot for Vice President Harris this November.’

The ads are set to kick off in Miami, Fla., with a mobile billboard on a boat near Swift’s concert venue in Miami and billboards across the city.

The DNC said the ads are set to ‘welcome voters to their ‘Kamala Era.”

The Snapchat filter says, ‘In My Voting Era,’ at the top of the screen and the words ‘Be fearless for,’ where users can select from the following: ‘democracy; reproductive rights; climate action; student loan debt relief; health care; racial justice; LGBTQ+ rights; economic opportunity; and equality.’

‘This election will determine the future for young voters, from student loan debt relief and economic opportunity to whether they have fewer rights than their grandmothers did,’ DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin said ‘Democrats are reaching out to young voters where they are, from concert venues to social media platforms, to make sure they have the resources they need to cast their ballot.’

Boeglin said Democrats are ‘not taking any vote for granted, and we’ll continue to make sure young voters across the country know everything that’s at stake and the stark contrast between Vice President Harris’ New Way Forward and Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda.’

‘Our country’s youth are mobilized to speak now for the future they deserve, and they’ll elect Vice President Harris, Governor Tim Walz, and Democrats down the ballot in November,’ Boeglin said.

The Trump campaign has repeatedly said that it is not involved in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025.

Taylor Swift endorsed Harris shortly after the presidential debate between the vice president and former President Donald Trump concluded last month.

Writing on Instagram, the pop star said she will be voting for Harris, because ‘she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.’

‘I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered!’ Swift wrote to her 283 million followers. ‘I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.’

Swift signed the post: ‘Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,’ in an apparent dig at Trump’s running-mate, Sen. JD Vance, who said in an interview in 2021 that ‘we are effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.’

Former President Donald Trump highlighted during a ‘Fox and Friends’ interview that he soundly defeated 2024 Republican presidential primary rival Nikki Haley, but that the former South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador in Trump’s administration is ‘helping’ him on the campaign trail.

Trump, during an extended interview Friday morning on the popular Fox News Channel morning program, was asked by co-host Brian Kilmeade whether he has asked Haley to help him win over Republicans reluctant to support the former president.

‘I’ll do what I have to do,’ Trump responded.

Donald Trump stressed that he ‘beat Nikki [Haley] badly’ during the Republican presidential primaries during a ‘Fox & Friends’ interview Friday morning, while also adding that his former rival is ‘helping’ his presidential campaign.

‘I’ll do what I have to do,’ Trump said when asked if he would call on Haley to join the campaign trail, going on to emphasize, ‘Nikki Haley and I fought, and I beat her by 50, 60, 90 points. I beat her in her own state by numbers that nobody’s ever been beaten by. I beat Nikki badly.’

Haley launched her presidential campaign in February of last year, becoming the first major candidate to challenge Trump, who had announced his candidacy three months earlier. And she ended up being his final rival, battling the former president in a contentious two-candidate showdown from the New Hampshire primary in late January through Super Tuesday in early March.

Haley announced that she was suspending her White House campaign on March 6, the day after Trump swept 14 of 15 GOP nominating contests on Super Tuesday.

As she departed the race, Haley made it clear that she intended to keep speaking out. And she continued to grab up to 20% of the vote in Republican presidential primaries in the months after she dropped out.

In late May, in her first public comments since announcing the end of her 2024 campaign, Haley said she would vote for Trump.

Haley won a total of 97 delegates during the Republican presidential primaries. And she released all of her delegates and urged them to support Trump.

In August, in a high-profile address, Haley spoke in support of Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

On Friday, Trump appeared to express some frustration regarding whether he will ask Haley to campaign on his behalf in the final stretch leading up to Election Day.

‘Everybody keeps saying that. They don’t say ‘get [Florida Gov.] Ron [DeSantis] and Ron did very well,’ Trump said. ‘But again, I beat everybody by numbers that have never happened before. And they keep talking about Nikki. NikkiI like Nikki. Nikki, I don’t think she should have done what she did. And that’s fine that she did it.’

Trump added, ‘They say, ‘Oh, when is Nikki coming back?’’

He emphasized that ‘Nikki is in. Nikki is helping us already….Nikki is already in, you know, she’s out campaigning.’

Sources familiar confirm to Fox News that Haley is in talks to join Trump on the campaign trail.

Up until now, Haley’s efforts to help Trump court disgruntled Republicans and others not backing the GOP presidential nominee have been limited to some fundraising emails.

While Trump retains vast sway over the GOP, even a small sliver of Republicans supporting Vice President Kamala Harris could make an important impact in what will likely be a tight race in the battleground states.

The vice president has stepped up efforts in recent weeks to court Republicans who backed Haley during the GOP primaries.

In this week’s RRG video, I shared my concerns about the current market conditions. The sector rotation model and current sector rotation, as we see it on the Relative Rotation Graph for US sectors, are sending us conflicting signals. This combination continues to make me cautious about fully buying into the rally with new positions.

Being Fully invested is too risky at the moment (for me).

My current approach is that the risk of being fully invested in the market right now, or even buying into it, is too high for my comfort. Instead, I suggest we focus on identifying individual stocks or industries that present profit opportunities for long positions.

Dow Jones Industrials: Finding the Right Stocks

I haven’t blogged about individual stocks for a while, especially not about the members of the Dow Jones Industrials. So, I thought it would be beneficial to examine the constituents of the Dow Jones Industrials Index to find suitable candidates for long positions.

Outliers on the RRG

When you look at the RRG holding the Dow Jones Industrial Stocks, two real outliers catch the eye. The first is Intel, which is in the lagging quadrant and experiencing a significant hiccup in relative momentum. The second outlier is 3M, located in the weakening quadrant and rapidly losing relative momentum. If removed from the equation, these two stocks allow us to see a more balanced distribution of stocks across the various quadrants.

Positive RRG Headings

My next step is to toggle over all the individual stocks and highlight those with a positive RRG heading between 0 and 90 degrees. This indicates that a stock is gaining relative strength against the Dow Jones Industrials and is supported by positive momentum.

With this filter, we see two stocks in the lagging quadrant on a positive heading: Amazon and Honeywell. Four stocks are inside the improving quadrant, and they seem to continue improving: DIS, NKE, CRM, and V.

Concentrating on the Leading Quadrant

The leading quadrant has a higher concentration of stocks on a positive heading, and that’s where I want to focus our attention.

After reviewing the individual charts of these stocks, I’ve identified a few worth a closer look and might be considered for adding to a portfolio.

The Strong Performers: TRV, WMT, and AXP

Travelers (TRV), Walmart (WMT), and American Express (AXP) are showing very strong charts in terms of price and relative strength. However, they’ve had such a long run that I wouldn’t recommend chasing them higher. The same goes for American Express (AXP). If you already hold these stocks, they are a great “hold,” but I wouldn’t initiate new positions.

The Top Three Picks

Now, let’s talk about the three stocks that stand out as potential additions to our portfolio.

Caterpillar (CAT)

Caterpillar’s price has just broken above the previous high at $380 and is consolidating. As long as it stays above $380, it has a good chance of continuing its uptrend. The RRG lines have turned up and are both above 100, indicating a positive RRG heading.

Cisco (CSCO)

Cisco bottomed out around $44 and has climbed to its previous high of around $56. It’s now breaking above that resistance, which is a positive sign.

The next target is the late December 2021 peak, just below $60. The relative strength is picking up again, confirmed by both RRG lines pushing above the 100 level.

Once that barrier is taken out, a lot of upside potential for CSCO will be unlocked.

Home Depot (HD)

Home Depot has broken above resistance around $390, formed by two peaks in late 2021 and March 2024. The stock confirms a new uptrend with the RRG lines pushing above 100.

We could see significant upside potential when the raw RS line surpasses its previous high from March 2024.

By measuring the height of the range from $260 to $390, we can project a rough price target of $520 for Home Depot to be reached within the next two years, as long as the support around $390 holds.

Remember, it’s not about chasing the market; it’s about making informed decisions based on solid analysis.

Amazon said Thursday it plans to host an election night special anchored by Brian Williams, marking the company’s first foray into live news coverage.

The one-night special will provide election results and analysis on Prime Video starting at 5 p.m. ET on Nov. 5, the company said. Amazon emphasized it will be a “non-partisan presentation” pulling information from a variety of third-party news sources.

Williams will lead the special and interview analysts across the political spectrum. Viewers will not be required to have a Prime subscription to access the stream.

“After 41 years in the business — from local news to network shows to cable news — this feels like the next big thing,” Williams, who left NBC News in 2021 after a 28-year run, said in a release. “And the global marketplace of Amazon is a natural home for this first-of-its-kind venture.”

Amazon has been increasingly moving into live sports programming on its Prime Video streaming service as a way to boost subscriptions and drive additional revenue to its lucrative advertising business. In July, Amazon signed an 11-year rights deal to carry NBA games starting with the 2025-26 season. Amazon also streams “Thursday Night Football” games and has the rights to stream some NHL games.

Now the company is angling to position itself as a “growing home for news viewers.” It offers streaming news channels on Prime Video, including live content from ABC News Live, CNN Headlines, LiveNOW from FOX and NBC News Now.

Universal’s Epic Universe theme park will open its gates on May 22, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.

Epic Universe is the company’s fourth theme park, part of a 750 acre development, and is the largest of all its properties, with five themed worlds: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — The Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon — The Isle of Berk, Celestial Park and Dark Universe.

First announced in 2019, Epic Universe represents the single-largest investment Comcast’s NBCUniversal has ever made in its theme parks business and in Florida overall, CEO Brian Roberts said at the time.

Construction was halted in July 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but began to ramp up again in March 2021.

Adding Epic Universe to its catalog of Orlando-based amusements allows Universal to turn its resort into a weeklong travel destination, and not just a two- or three-day trip for families. The company also operates Volcano Bay, a water park about a mile down the road from the Universal Studios parks.

Epic Universe will be anchored around the Loews Hotels’ Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a 500-room property that will have a dedicated entrance to the park for hotel guests.

Universal will begin offering some multiday tickets and packages starting Oct. 22. This first phase of tickets will allow guests to purchase three-, four- or five-day admission to Universal’s Orlando Resort, with one-day admission to Epic Universe.

Additionally, annual passholders will have the chance to buy single-day tickets to Epic Universe on Oct. 24 before they go on sale to the general public. Other ticketing options will be available at a later date.

For the first time this NFL season, the Arizona Cardinals are playing in prime time in Week 7. The Cardinals take on the Los Angeles Chargers in the second game of a ‘Monday Night Football’ doubleheader in their only prime time matchup of the season.

Arizona’s taken a step forward on offense this season. After finishing 24th in the NFL in points per game last season, the Cardinals are up to 17th in 2024. One factor in that is rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who Arizona drafted No. 4 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

But Harrison Jr.’s availability is uncertain this week after he suffered a concussion early on last week against the Green Bay Packers. Here’s the latest on his status.

Will Marvin Harrison Jr. play on Monday Night Football?

Harrison Jr. is questionable to play on ‘Monday Night Football’ following his concussion but he did practice on Thursday, albeit in a limited role.

All things Cardinals: Latest Arizona Cardinals news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

That’s promising considering how soon after the injury it was. For comparison, Cardinals tight end Trey McBride missed a full week of practice before working his way back. Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon called Harrison Jr.’s quick progress ‘really encouraging.’

When was Marvin Harrison Jr. injured?

Harrison Jr. sustained a concussion during the second quarter of the Cardinals’ game against the Packers in Week 6.

Marvin Harrison Jr. stats

Through six games, Harrison Jr. has 17 catches for 279 yards and four touchdowns.

NFL WR concussions in 2024

Harrison Jr. is the latest notable wide receiver to sustain a concussion this season. Two others took weeks to go through the NFL’s concussion protocol and be cleared for a return to the field.

Philadelphia Eagles wide reciever DeVonta Smith was out for two weeks with a concussion suffered in Week 3. New York Giants wideout Malik Nabers may be back on the field Sunday for the first time since Week 5 when he left the Giants-Dallas Cowboys ‘Thursday Night Football’ game with a concussion.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver depth chart

Harrison Jr. is the only Cardinals wide receiver on the injury report for Week 7. Here’s how the depth chart looks behind him:

Michael Wilson
Greg Dortch
Zach Pascal
Xavier Weaver
Zay Jones

The team also has wideouts Chris Moore, Andre Baccellia, and Tejhaun Palmer on the practice squad.

NEW YORK — He’s the other guy in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ powerful lineup.

He’s the guy whose face isn’t plastered over every billboard in Los Angeles.

The guy who can actually have a peaceful dinner at a Beverly Hills restaurant without TMZ and every other camera crew following him.

The guy who’s a star in this game, but has never been compared to Babe Ruth, or proclaimed one of the greatest players in baseball history.

The name is Mookie Betts, and Thursday evening in the Dodgers’ 10-2 rout of the New York Mets — giving L.A. a 3-1 lead in the NLCS — he reminded everyone, loud and clear, of his otherworldly talent.

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

“He’s one of the best players in the game,’’ Dodgers infielder Max Muncy said. “Sometimes, you just have to remind him of that. And sometimes, with games like this, he reminds you.’’

Betts put on a show in front of the sellout crowd of 43,882 at Citi Field, going 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI, becoming only the third player in Dodgers history to produce at least four hits and drive in four runs in a postseason game.

“I can’t really describe it, but I felt pretty good,’’ Betts said. “It’s good to feel good. It’s good to help the team. It was fun.’’

Betts and Shohei Ohtani, who led off the game with a homer, combined for seven runs, tied for the most by a team’s first two hitters in the lineup in postseason history (last accomplished by Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez with the 2004 New York Yankees).

“Mookie’s ridiculous,’’ said Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman, who batted cleanup. “He’s one of the best players in baseball, and he has been for a while. He works so hard, and him hitting behind Shohei, I don’t envy the opposing pitcher having to face those guys 1-2.’’

The Dodgers’ lineup has bludgeoned the Mets this series, outscoring them 30-9, and showing so much patience that they’ve already drawn 31 walks — the most in a four-game span in postseason history. Muncy reached base a postseason record 12 consecutive times this series, including three more walks Thursday. Ohtani walked three times after his leadoff homer. Teoscar Hernandez walked twice, and now has six walks this series.

“That’s what makes that team such a good team,’’ Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “It’s not only Ohtani, it’s Mookie and Teoscar and it’s Freddie (Freeman). And you’ve got Muncy there, too, and Kiké (Hernandez) doing things that Kiké does this time of the year.

“I think it’s a deep lineup, but the biggest thing is they’re going to force you in the zone. They’re not going to chase. When you do come in the zone you have to execute. Because if not, they’re going to make you pay.’’

Betts did just that, again and again and again Thursday. He hit a one-out single in the third inning, leading to a two-run rally and a 3-1 lead. He hit a two-run double in the fourth inning, giving the Dodgers a 5-2 lead. And he hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, breaking the game open by giving the Dodgers a 7-2 lead.

Betts, an eight-time All-Star, six-time Gold Glove winner, MVP winner, batting champion and two-time World Series champion, played in 67 prior career postseason games. Never, ever, has he had a game like this.

Those playoff ghosts suddenly have disappeared.

The hatred and vitriol on social media has vanished.

Betts, who erased his social media accounts last week while he was mired in a 3-for-44 postseason slump that drove him absolutely crazy, has triumphantly come out on the other side.

“You know, it’s tough to really get away from everything,’’ Betts said, “because everyone’s watching. There’s family, friends, you guys, everybody is watching. There’s no real way to get away from it.

“So really, just getting off social media, spending time with my kids, my wife, my family, that’s really the easiest way to get away from it. Sometimes, I just go into the locker room and just sit by myself to get away from all the things that are going on, and you can reset and come back to it.

“It’s tough, but if you want to do it, you’ll find a way.’’

That postseason slump, the one that haunted him the last two winters when the Dodgers had early exits, is finally over.

Betts is now hitting .333 in the Dodgers’ last seven postseason games, with two doubles, three homers, 10 RBI and eight runs, helping lead the Dodgers to the brink of the World Series.

“I mean, a lot stuff has clicked,’’ Betts said. “Today worked. But (Friday) is a new day, and I’ll come work and try and find the same feel.

“It’s just a lot of work. God really answering prayers.’’

The biggest difference now, the Dodgers say, is the confidence he is exuding at the plate, in the field, and in the clubhouse. He was taking 500 swings a day in the batting cage trying to get right, beating himself up. If he was going to struggle, he said, it wasn’t going to be from lack of work.

“Mookie’s still one of the best players in baseball,’’ Muncy said. “I know he gets a little bit overshadowed because we’ve got Shohei Ohtani, but Mookie’s still getting paid $400 million, too. Come on, look at what he’s done. It’s just that sometimes, we have to remind him.’’

Says Betts: “My teammates did an amazing job trying to instill confidence in me. Sometimes, I need that.’’

The Dodgers, of course, will tell you just how much they need him. They’re not going to get the ultimate prize, ride in that downtown parade, and become heroes that will be cherished forever in Los Angeles, without him.

“We need him, and he knows that,’’ Dodgers left fielder Teoscar Hernandez said. “He’s amazing. You learn a lot from a guy who’s won MVPs, World Series, all of the awards you can think about in baseball, and he has it.

“He’s just Mookie. He does special things.’’

He’s the reason, too, why pitchers are forced to face Ohtani, knowing that if they pitch around him, Betts can make them pay. When Ohtani led off the game with a 422-foot homer off Jose Quintana, the Mets pitched around him the rest of the game. Ohtani walked in his next three plate appearances. And all three times Betts immediately delivered a hit.

“It’s been fun being able to see him perform really well, obviously being in the situation where I’m on base,’’ Ohtani said. “He looks really good and locked in.’’

Really, the Dodgers say, it’s quite simple.

“It’s just Mookie,’’ Freeman says, “being Mookie.

“And it’s a beautiful thing.’’
