Boeing machinists approved a new labor deal Monday, ending a more than seven-week strike that halted most of the aircraft production at the company that was already struggling with mounting losses.

Machinists voted 59% in favor of the new contract, which includes 38% wage increases over four years and other improvements.

The approval is a relief for Boeing’s new CEO Kelly Ortberg, who took the top job in August to steer the company through its safety and manufacturing crises.

President Joe Biden congratulated the union and the company — one of the country’s top exporters — on reaching the deal. Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su had gotten involved with the negotiations, meeting with both sides.“This contract provides a 38% wage increase over four years, improves workers’ ability to retire with dignity, and supports fairness at the workplace,” Biden said in a statement. “This contract is also important for Boeing’s future as a critical part of America’s aerospace sector.”

It was the machinists’ third vote since September, when the 33,000 workers, mostly in the Seattle area, walked off the job after overwhelmingly rejecting a proposal promising a 25% raise, far short of the 40% the union sought. They rejected another sweetened proposal late last month.

“This is a victory. We can hold our heads high,” said International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 President Jon Holden as he announced the results late Monday.

The machinists, who build planes such as the bestselling 737 Max, 777 and 767 aircraft must return to their jobs no later than Nov. 12 the union said. They could return as early as Wednesday.

Boeing said machinist pay will average $119,309 at the end of this contract proposal. The first wage increase will be 13%. The contract also increases 401(k) contributions and a signing bonus of up to $12,000 or a combination of a $7,000 bonus and $5,000 401(k) deposit.

Workers had complained about the skyrocketing cost of living in the Seattle area, where most of Boeing’s aircraft are produced.

But the union had warned that the latest deal, which was proposed last week, might be as good as workers can expect to get.

“In every negotiation and strike, there is a point where we have extracted everything that we can in bargaining and by withholding our labor,” the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 said in a statement then. “We are at that point now and risk a regressive or lesser offer in the future.”

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce did not immediately say who would take over offensive play calling duties after he fired three members of his staff, including offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, from that side of the ball.

On Tuesday, however, Pierce officially named Scott Turner, Las Vegas’ pass game coordinator, interim offensive coordinator. But he also added a familiar figure to provide some assistance.

The Raiders announced they had hired Norv Turner – Scott Turner’s father and a longtime head coach and offensive coordinator in the league – to come out of retirement and join the team’s staff as a senior advisor.

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin also was hired as interim offensive line coach.

The Raiders handed pink slips to Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg following the team’s 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

All things Raiders: Latest Las Vegas Raiders news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

Norv Turner, 72, coached the Raiders to a 9-23 record over two seasons in 2004-05. He also served as head coach for Washington and the Chargers and finished with a career record of 114-122-1. Prior to his time as a head coach, he was the offensive coordinator for the first two (of three) Super Bowls the Dallas Cowboys won in the 1990s.

Scott Turner started coaching in the NFL in 2011 as an offensive quality control assistant with the Panthers. He coached under his father with the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina and was Washington’s coordinator from 2020-22.

The father-son duo will have their work cut out for them over the back half of the season. The Raiders’ 4.6 yards per play ranks 30th in the league, and their 18.7 points scored per game is 26th.

It’s that time of year again when the air is filled with hope from college football fans, wondering if their favorite team can earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. This year, there’s even more than usual though. With the expanded format comes a myriad of new schools and fanbases eager to figure out where they stand in the selection committee’s eyes.

Well, we’ve learned exactly that. Oregon, Georgia, Miami, and BYU were granted the top-four seeds and projected first round byes. While bubble teams like Alabama, Tennessee, and Indiana were all granted projected playoff bids.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. There is still a lot of time for teams to make a name for themselves or fall apart completely. Who knows? By the end of the season, perhaps some of the lower-ranked teams like undefeated Army or vastly underrated Ole Miss could burst into the top-12.

Here are the first official 2024 CFP Rankings.

2023: No. 1 Michigan def. No. 2 Washington, 34-13

How does seeding work for the 12-team playoff?

Each of the top-four seeds will be granted to the highest-ranked conference champions. They will all earn first-round byes as well.

The fifth highest-ranked conference champion will also be guaranteed a spot in the CFP, but they are not guaranteed the No. 5 seed. Essentially, seeds 5-12 will be the highest-ranked non-conference champs, seeded based on their final rankings.

Ukraine has engaged militarily for the first time with North Korean troops deployed to support Russia in its ongoing war with its neighbor, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday in a nightly address.

Zelenskyy did not go into detail about the engagement but warned of what he says is Russia’s intention to escalate the war that has raged for nearly 1,000 days.

A Kyiv official said Ukraine’s army fired artillery at North Korean soldiers in Russia’s Kursk border region.

‘Terror, unfortunately, can spread like a virus when it does not meet sufficient counteraction. Now our counteraction must be sufficient, strong enough. The first battles with North Korean soldiers have opened a new chapter of instability in the world,’ Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address as he thanked Ukraine’s allies around the world.

‘Together with the world, we must do everything so that this Russian step to expand the war with real escalation fails. Both for Russia and North Korea.’

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday that more than 10,000 North Korean troops arrived in Russia, with a ‘significant number’ in the frontline areas, including the Kursk region where Ukrainian forces staged an incursion in August.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov told South Korean state television there had been a ‘small engagement’ with the North Korean troops, per Reuters. The report, with excerpts from the interview, quoted Umerov as saying the engagement was small and not yet systematic in terms of mobilizing soldiers.

Umerov reportedly said he expects five North Korean units, each consisting of about 3,000 soldiers, zto be deployed to the Kursk area. North Korean soldiers are mixed with Russian troops and are misidentified on their uniforms, Umerov was quoted as saying, according to the Associated Press.

Russia is reported to have 1.3 million active-duty soldiers with another 2 million in reserve. Russia is now seeing its highest number of casualties than at any other time since the war began, with some 1,200 casualties reported a day, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last week. Despite the high number of casualties, there does not appear to be any end in sight to the war, validating early concerns that this would be a war of attrition.

Zelenskyy has been sounding the alarm that the recent deployment of North Korean troops in Russia not only spells trouble for Ukraine but also draws into question the stability and security of nations in Asia that are allied with the West.

‘North Korea’s actions aren’t random,’ Zelenskyy said in an interview with South Korea’s public broadcasting network KBS on Thursday. ‘They have strategic goals.’

‘Their actions aren’t coincidental. They want Russia’s support in return,’ he added in comments also posted to his social media account on X.

Zelenskyy has called on South Korea to take a bigger role in the conflict and has said that South Korea has already pledged to send a team of specialists to Ukraine, where they will collaborate on defensive capabilities, including air defense, as North Korea also provides Russian with artillery and missiles.

‘If South Korea wants to understand the real capabilities of North Korea and its soldiers, it would benefit them to be here to see and analyze the reality firsthand,’ he said. ‘Consider how close North Korea is to [the South Korean capital] Seoul [25-30 miles], the range of modern artillery, not even missiles.

‘Air defenses can’t counter artillery strikes. Our own towns were obliterated by artillery. I hope South Korea never faces this, but preparation is critical,’ Zelenskyy added.

Zelenskyy also called into question China’s ‘silence’ with regard to the North’s recent involvement in the war.

Meanwhile, North Korea was reported to have fired a barrage of short-range ballistic missiles into the sea on Tuesday.

The launch came days after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised a flight test of the country’s newest intercontinental ballistic missile designed to reach the U.S. mainland. In response to that launch, the United States flew a long-range B-1B bomber in a trilateral drill with South Korea and Japan on Sunday in a show of force.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Back in the day, I used to look at the weekly S&P 500 chart every weekend and ask myself the same three questions:

What is the long-term trend? What is the medium-term trend? What is the short-term trend?

My goal was to make sure that I was respecting the broader market direction, and not fighting it by taking too many contrary positions in my portfolio.  I eventually realized through some trial and error that I could use a series of weekly exponential moving averages to get me to the same place, allowing me to spend more time focusing on what was coming next.

The Construction of the Market Trend Model

As I discussed with Mike Turner in a recent episode of the Market Misbehavior podcast, staying on the right side of market trends is arguably the most important role for any investor.  I realized that by comparing the 21 and 34-week exponential moving averages every week, I was able to clearly define uptrends and downtrends over long-term time frames.

Our short-term Market Trend Model turned bearish on November 1, 2024.

To try and address the lagging nature of such a long-form moving average combination, I added the 5 and 13-week exponential moving averages and found that the signals provided gave me a better signal to track what I consider the medium term time frame of about a couple months.

I finally added a short-term signal, making a comparison of Friday’s weekly close to the 5-week exponential moving average.  As you can see from the chart above, the PPO indicator allows a very easy and visually attractive method to track these comparisons and recognize shifts from bullish phase to bearish phase.

The Short-Term Model Turned Bearish… Now What?

On Friday, November 1st, the short-term model turned negative for only the fourth time in 2024.  Previous bearish signals in August, July, and April had lined up quite well with tactical pullbacks within the fairly consistently bullish year of 2024.  But note how the medium-term and long-term models are still firmly in the bullish camp?

For now, the current configuration makes me comfortable labeling the current trend as short-term bearish but still long-term bullish.  As we’ve noted in recent weeks, the market breadth indicators I follow have certainly suggested a bearish tilt as they have trended lower into November.

But the point of the Market Trend Model is to show how short-term weakness can often occur within bullish primary trends.  The key is to differentiate between the garden variety “buy on the dips” pullback with a pullback that may be the beginning of a more significant drawdown.

Learning From Previous Market Cycles

Look back at 2021 for a similar example of long-term primary uptrend with a series of short-term bearish signals along the way.  Even as the S&P 500 a remarkably strong and low-volatility uptrend, there were a number of hiccups that caused the short-term model to turn negative.

The key in 2021 was that the medium-term and long-term models remained bullish, at least until they didn’t!  In January 2022, the short-term model turned bearish again, and a couple weeks later, the medium-term model pivoted to a negative signal as well.  The long-term model followed suit in May 2024.

You can add the Keller Market Trend Model to your Market Dashboard!

For now, I’m watching the medium-term model closely for a potential bearish reversal.  If that comes to pass in November, that would mean that once again the market is resisting the normal seasonal tendencies and showing weakness where there is often strength.  But if the medium-term model remains bullish through year-end, that will tell me to remain positioned for potential further upside as the market trends remain positive.

I am a big fan of analyzing price action using subjective methods to evaluate trends based on the traditional tools of the technical analyst.  And I’m also a big fan of making life easier, using systematic trend-following models to make sure I’m on the right side of the primary trend in the markets!

RR#6,

Dave

With the 2024 NFL trade deadline closing in on Tuesday, two playoff contenders struck a deal with one another.

The Green Bay Packers agreed to trade edge rusher Preston Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.

Smith is one of the league’s more accomplished pass rushers with 68 ½ career sacks. But Green Bay opted to give more reps to its younger alternatives, while the Steelers – who earlier Tuesday engineered a trade with the New York Jets for wide receiver Mike Williams – found an established veteran to serve as a backup to T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Here’s how the Steelers and Packers fared in the deal.

Preston Smith trade grades

Steelers grade: B-

There’s no questioning Watt and Highsmith, who are each coming off two-sack performances in a win over the New York Giants. But as they stand atop the AFC North at 6-2, the Steelers likely wanted a little more confidence in their depth with Nick Herbig still recovering from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the last three games. Smith turns 32 later this month, and his best days are almost certainly behind him. But if he helps keep Watt and Highsmith fresh with some spot work, Pittsburgh is probably satisfied with the results.

All things Steelers: Latest Pittsburgh Steelers news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

Packers grade: B-

For Green Bay, this deal appears rooted not so much in nabbing a sizable return so much as clearing the way for other contributors. The Packers were bound to move on from Smith at some point after taking Lukas Van Ness in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, and it seems that the staff was ready to make the transition after Smith played a season-low 36.8% of the snaps in Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions. This move could test how defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley navigates his rotation of pass rushers, with Kingsley Enagbare potentially also needing to step up behind Van Ness and Rashan Gary. But it was time for a shift, and GM Brian Gutekunst gets something for a player he might have cut in the upcoming offseason as a cost-saving measure.

The 2024 NFL trade deadline has passed, and the last window for teams to make a major exterior personnel shake-up yielded no shortage of action.

There were eight deals on Tuesday before the 4 p.m. ET cutoff, putting the total at 18 since the season began. Almost all of the teams in the playoff picture were active in one way or another. And though the widespread activity didn’t have an immediate fallout on our NFL Week 10 power rankings, the swaps could spark a significant shift in the coming weeks.

Here’s a look back at all the notable developments from the final day of movement:

NFL trade deadline tracker: Recapping all the moves

Who said there’s no movement at the NFL trade deadline?

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

This year saw several teams making big transactions for a second-half push, with many others shifting their focus to next year and beyond. All but seven franchises made some kind of in-season swap.

Here’s a recap of all the deals that went down, in reverse chronological order.

Texans trade DT Khalil Davis to 49ers
Rams trade CB Tre’Davious White to Ravens
Packers trade DE/OLB Preston Smith to Steelers
Jets trade WR Mike Williams to Steelers
Saints trade CB Marshon Lattimore to Commanders
Panthers trade WR Jonathan Mingo to Cowboys
Bears trade RB Khalil Herbert to Bengals
Browns trade DE Za’Darius Smith to Lions
Broncos trade OLB Baron Browning to Cardinals
Jaguars trade OT Cam Robinson to Vikings
Panthers trade WR Diontae Johnson to Ravens
Patriots trade LB Joshua Uche to Chiefs
Titans trade WR DeAndre Hopkins to Chiefs
Titans trade LB Ernest Jones IV to Seahawks
Texans trade RB Cam Akers to Vikings
Browns trade WR Amari Cooper to Bills
Raiders trade WR Davante Adams to Jets
Jaguars trade DT Roy Robertson-Harris to Seahawks

49ers add defensive line help with trade for DT Khalil Davis

One last trade in before the deadline!

The Houston Texans are sending defensive tackle Khalil Davis to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.

Davis, 28, has nine tackles and one sack this season. He provides depth for a 49ers front that was hit hard by the loss of defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a torn triceps.

Rams send CB Tre’Davious White to Ravens

Tre’Davious White is getting another fresh start.

The Los Angeles Rams are trading the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback to the Baltimore Ravens, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports’ Tyler Dragon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade was not yet official.

The Rams will receive a 2026 seventh-round pick while sending back a 2027 seventh-round pick.

White, 29, has played in four games this season but been a healthy scratch since his last appearance in late September. The Rams gave him permission to seek a trade in October.

‘He’s been such a pro about the way he’s handled obviously a not-ideal situation for him,’ Rams coach Sean McVay said after White’s request. ‘If you guys saw the way he’s practiced, the way that he’s been a pro in every sense of the word, and approaches some things where, he hasn’t been active the last three weeks. Guy wants an opportunity to be able to compete, and we love him here. We’d like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we’re obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes, we’ve allowed them to be able to talk to some teams to see if that’s a possibility.’

White was a longtime standout for the Buffalo Bills but suffered a torn Achilles last October.

In Baltimore, he will join a secondary surrendering a league-worst 280.9 passing yards per game.

Steelers swing another trade deadline deal, secure edge rusher Preston Smith from Packers

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t finished at the NFL trade deadline.

After securing wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets, Pittsburgh agreed to a deal to acquire edge rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers.

Smith, who turns 32 later this month, has 2 1/2 sacks this season but has played in just 54% of the Packers’ defensive snaps as part of a pass rusher rotation. He is signed through 2026, with a base salary of $12 million in each of the next two years. His departure could place a bigger burden on 2023 first-round pick Lukas Van Ness and Kingsley Enagbare.

In Pittsburgh, he’ll provide depth behind one of the league’s best pass-rushing tandems in T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. Second-year backup Nick Herbig has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury.

Steelers get their WR in Mike Williams

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their long-awaited move for another wide receiver.

The Steelers on Tuesday agreed to a deal to acquire Mike Williams from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.

Williams, 30, struggled to establish a connection with Aaron Rodgers after signing with the Jets this offseason, with the veteran quarterback calling out the pass catcher for running the wrong route on a play that would seal a loss to the Buffalo Bills with an interception. He had just 12 catches for 166 yards this season, his first back from a torn ACL suffered last September.

Still, the 6-4, 218-pounder could be a valuable addition for the downfield passing attack now helmed by Russell Wilson. George Pickens leads the Steelers with 35 catches for 548 yards, but no other wideout has more than 14 receptions on the season.

Commanders make big splash with trade for CB Marshon Lattimore

The Washington Commanders were among the few teams at the top of the standings that have yet to make a significant move at the trade deadline.

That changed Tuesday, as the team swung a deal to acquire New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore. The Kansas City Chiefs had also been in the picture, according to multiple reports.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury and missed 19 games since 2022, shores up one of Washington’s biggest positional weaknesses. Opposing passers have a 103.9 rating against the Commanders defense so far this season, which ranks 28th in the NFL.

Lattimore, 28, has been sidelined by a hamstring injury.

DK Metcalf not being traded by Seahawks

Amid a rash of other big-name wide receivers being traded, DK Metcalf is staying put.

The Seattle Seahawks will not trade the two-time Pro Bowl selection, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Metcalf has 35 catches for 568 yards and three touchdowns so far this season for the 4-5 Seahawks, who are only one game back of first place in the NFC West.

Cowboys trade for WR Jonathan Mingo in deal with Panthers

Jerry Jones had a move up his sleeve after all.

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers, sending a fourth-round pick while also receiving a seventh-round pick back, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports’ Tyler Dragon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade was not yet official.

NFL Network was first to report the move.

Prior to the agreement, Jones said Tuesday during an interview with 105.3 The Fan that the team was bringing in a receiver the team really liked during the draft process.

Mingo, 23, was a second-round pick out of Mississippi in 2023. He has struggled to make his mark amid the Panthers’ wider offensive struggles, catching just 43 of 85 targets in his rookie campaign. He has just 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games this year.

The Cowboys’ acquisition comes amid major injuries on offense for the 3-5 team. Quarterback Dak Prescott is likely to be placed on injured reserve and miss at least four games with his hamstring injury, Jones said Tuesday. Top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also dealing with a shoulder injury.

Bengals trade for RB, grabbing Khalil Herbert

The Cincinnati Bengals have added depth in the backfield as they prepare for a potential late-season run.

The Bengals are acquiring running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick, the Bears announced.

The Bengals had faced an uncertain outlook at running back behind Chase Brown after Zack Moss was sidelined indefinitely by a neck injury that kept him out of Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Moss 74 carries for 242 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.

Herbert, 26, was a healthy scratch for the last two games for the Bears. He has just eight carries for 16 yards this season, as starter D’Andre Swift and backup Roschon Johnson have taken the bulk of the work. Last season, however, he rushed for 611 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

Lions make their move, land DE Za’Darius Smith from Browns

The Detroit Lions finally have their fill-in pass rusher.

On Tuesday, the team acquired Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple reports. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Smith and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick will got to the Lions, who in turn will receive a 2025 fifth-round draft pick and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.

Lions coach Dan Campbell had acknowledged for weeks that the team was looking into the market at defensive end for a replacement for Pro Bowl selection Aidan Hutchinson, who suffered a broken tibia and fibula against the Dallas Cowboys.

‘I don’t think it’s entirely up to us,’ Campbell said Monday. ‘I can tell you we’re trying, (Lions general manager) Brad (Holmes is) trying, and we’ve looked at everything, we really have. Made a ton of calls and he’s been rolling on it, so we’ll see. We still got a little bit of time here. We’ve got till tomorrow evening, so we’ll see what happens.’

Smith has five sacks in nine games so far this season.

Who are best players still available at NFL trade deadline?

While the talent pool has thinned considerably in recent weeks, there are still several intriguing players left atop our rankings:

1. Azeez Ojulari, OLB, New York Giants
2. Za’Darius Smith, DE, Cleveland Browns
3. Jonathan Jones, CB, New England Patriots
4. Arden Key, OLB, Tennessee Titans
5. Chase Young, DE, New Orleans Saints

When is the NFL trade deadline?

The cutoff comes at the midseason point, as NFL owners voted in March to move it back one week from its traditional spot on the league calendar. After Tuesday, teams will not be able to make official trades until the start of the new league year in March, though they can unofficially agree to deals with one another after the season.

You can either be afraid to lose, or afraid to win games in the NFL.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles may have been the latter, failing to go for the two-point conversion in the final seconds of regulation against Patrick Mahomes, coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.

Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield reacted promptly, looking up at the sky in disbelief after Mahomes and the Chiefs won the overtime coin toss, before leading the game-winning touchdown drive to seal the 30-24 win without Tampa Bay’s offense seeing the field again.

‘We wanted to get into overtime with the wet conditions on the field, we thought we had to go into overtime instead of going for two,’ Bowles said after the game.

The same wet conditions Tampa Bay scored a touchdown on before kicking the extra point to tie the game?

When will NFL coaches ever learn?

Bowles’ decision to force overtime cost the Bucs a chance at an upset win over the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Instead, Mahomes and the Chiefs remain undefeated to boost his case for 2024-2025 NFL MVP.

But where does Mahomes stack up in the USA TODAY Sports’ NFL MVP rankings after Week 9?

5. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, stock down

Maybe, we were a bit overzealous placing Daniels No. 1 last week after his Hail Mary touchdown pass. Or maybe, the game-winning play in Week 8 was so electric, it made Daniels’ performance in Week 9 feel ho-hum.

Daniels was 15 of 22 for 209 yards with two touchdown passes to Terry McLaurin, and led another touchdown drive in a 27-22 win to sweep the New York Giants on Sunday. Washington is 7-2 for the first time since 1996, and atop the NFC East.

Daniels has the third-best QBR in the NFL, and the fifth-best passer rating. He is undoubtedly the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Washington has 27 touchdowns (sixth in NFL), and lead the league with 15 rushing touchdowns.

But Daniels’ nine touchdown passes this season doesn’t quite stack up with the rest of the MVP competition – causing him to tumble to No. 5 on our list.

4. Bills QB Josh Allen, stock up

Allen moves up a spot in our MVP rankings after throwing three touchdowns in the second half, and leading the game-winning field-goal drive to beat the Dolphins last week.

It was a comeback victory for the Bills, who trailed 10-6 at halftime, and may have already locked up the AFC East in Week 9. That’s worthy praise for his MVP stock.

Allen is tied for fourth with 17 touchdown passes, has the fourth-best QBR and the sixth-best QB rating this season. He also threw just his second interception of the season last week.

Allen and the Bills are tied for third with 31 touchdowns, continuing to beat up on teams worse than them this season.

3. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, stock up

Mahomes rises a spot in our MVP rankings after throwing two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, and fueling the game-winning touchdown drive in overtime to help the Chiefs overcome a 17-10 deficit and remain undefeated.

Mahomes’ stats keep him out of the top spot after Week 9: He’s sixth with 11 touchdown passes, sixth with a 69.9 completion percentage, and has the sixth-best QBR (67.6). His 242.8 yards per game are 10th, while his 1,942 passing yards rank 14th.

Another positive, Mahomes no longer leads the NFL in interceptions. He remains with nine after Week 9, but Jordan Love and Geno Smith have 10 each.

Still, Mahomes leading the only undefeated team in the NFL continues to boost his push for his third MVP.

2. Lions QB Jared Goff, stock even

Goff remains in the No. 2 spot for the third consecutive week after another efficient performance: He completed his first 11 passes, and finished 18 of 22 for 145 yards and a touchdown in a 24-14 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

It’s clear Detroit is the best team in the NFC: The Lions are 7-1 for the first time since 1956, and have scored 32 touchdowns, which is second in the NFL.

Goff is the most accurate quarterback in the NFL with his 74.9 completion percentage, and has the second-best passer rating (115.0). But his 58.7 QBR ranks 14th.

1. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, stock up

Jackson again finds himself in the No. 1 spot in our MVP rankings after his performance Sunday, throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns with a perfect passer rating in Baltimore’s 41-10 win over the Denver Broncos.

It was the fourth time in Jackson’s career he produced a 158.3 passer rating. He’s done that more times than Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger in the Super Bowl era.

Jackson has the best passer rating (120.7) and QBR (77.3) in the NFL. He’s second in the NFL with 20 touchdown passes. And the Ravens lead the NFL with 34 touchdowns this season.

The Ravens may be 6-3, but the MV3 chants are loud in Baltimore in hopes of Jackson’s third NFL MVP.

Ukraine has engaged militarily for the first time with South Korean troops that were deployed to support Russia in its ongoing war with its neighbor, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday in a nightly address.

Both for Russia and South Korea.’

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that more than 10,000 North Korean troops had arrived in Russia, with a ‘significant number’ in the frontline areas, including the Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces staged an incursion in August.

Defence Minister Rustem Umerov told South Korean state television there had been a ‘small engagement’ with the North Korean troops, per Reuters. The report, with excerpts from the interview, quoted Umerov as saying that the engagement was small and not yet systematic in terms of mobilizing soldiers.

Umerov reportedly said he expects that five North Korean units, each consisting of about 3,000 soldiers, will be deployed to the Kursk area. North Korean soldiers are mixed with Russian troops and are misidentified on their uniforms, Umerov was quoted as saying, according to the Associated Press.

Russia is reported to have 1.3 million active-duty soldiers with another 2 million in reserves. Russia is now seeing its highest number of casualties than at any other time since the war began, with some 1,200 casualties reported a day, claimed U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken last week. Despite the high number of troop casualties, there still does not appear to be any end in sight to the war — validating early concerns that this would be a war of attrition.

Zelenskyy has been sounding the alarm that the recent deployment of North Korean troops in Russia not only spells trouble for Ukraine, but also draws into question the stability and security of nations in Asia that are allied with the West.

‘North Korea’s actions aren’t random,’ Zelenskyy said in a frank interview with South Korea’s public broadcasting network KBS on Thursday. ‘They have strategic goals.’

‘Their actions aren’t coincidental — they want Russia’s support in return,’ he added in comments also posted to his social media account on X.

Zelenskyy has called on South Korea to take a bigger role in the conflict and has said that South Korea has already pledged to send a team of specialists to Ukraine where they will collaborate on defensive capabilities, including air defense, as North Korea also provides Russian with artillery and missiles.

‘If South Korea wants to understand the real capabilities of North Korea and its soldiers, it would benefit them to be here, to see and analyze the reality firsthand,’ he said. Consider how close North Korea is to Seoul [25-30 miles], the range of modern artillery, not even missiles.’

The launch came days after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised a flight test of the country’s newest intercontinental ballistic missile designed to reach the U.S. mainland. In response to that launch, the United States flew a long-range B-1B bomber in a trilateral drill with South Korea and Japan on Sunday in a show of force.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Lionel Messi is on Argentina’s roster for a pair of 2026 World Cup qualifying matches later this month. Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni called up 28 players Tuesday for a FIFA international window that falls between the MLS Cup Playoffs first round and the conference finals.

Messi will lead Inter Miami for a must-win playoff game Saturday at 8 p.m. ET against visiting Atlanta United. The first-round series is tied 1-1 between top-seeded Miami and No. 9 Atlanta. The winner advances to the Eastern Conference semifinals, which begin Nov. 23.

Argentina’s matches fall right in between: a trip to Paraguay at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and a home match against Peru in Buenos Aires at 7 p.m. Nov. 19.

The latter could be the second time Messi plays in his home country this year, following his hat-trick performance with two assists in a 6-0 rout of Bolivia Oct. 15.

The quick turnaround from the second Argentina match could affect Messi’s practice and playing time for the MLS playoffs. Inter Miami coach Tata Martino will address reporters Friday.

The winner of the Inter Miami-Atlanta series will face the winner from No. 4 Orlando City and No. 5 Charlotte, which will also play a Game 3 to decide their series on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.

Following the conference semifinals on Nov. 23-24, the conference finals will be played Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The MLS Cup final is Dec. 7.

Messi and Inter Miami are considered the favorites to win MLS Cup and cap a historic campaign, during which they won the Supporters’ Shield and set the league points record (74) for the best regular-season record.

Messi has been held scoreless with just one assist in the first two MLS playoff games of his career. Messi’s assist helped Inter Miami beat Atlanta 2-1 in Game 1, while Atlanta won the second match 2-1.

While Messi is helping Argentina qualify for the next World Cup, he remains non-committal about playing in the tournament for the sixth time in his career. Messi will be 39 when the United States, Canada and Mexico jointly host the World Cup.

“I don’t know. They ask me a lot, especially in Argentina,” Messi said during a recent interview with 433, a soccer content creation company. “I hope to finish this year well, and start the year having a good preseason, which I didn’t have last year due to all the trips we had.

“From there, I will see how I am doing and feeling. We are close, but at the same time it’s a lot of time and anything can happen in football. I don’t think [about it. I’m] simply living the day to day without thinking beyond.”
