Donald Trump’s sentencing for 34 criminal charges in the state of New York was abruptly adjourned by the court Tuesday without explanation, giving the presiding judge additional time to weigh how to proceed.

The delayed sentencing came on the same day that District Attorney Alvin Bragg was slated to file a recommendation to Judge Juan Merchan on how to proceed.

Trump was convicted in May by a Manhattan jury on 34 counts of falsifying business records, stemming from a case about payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels, which could have landed him a maximum sentence of up to four years in prison.

But the presidential race — and Trump’s victory — had thrown the timeline for court proceedings into a fog of uncertainty.

The presiding judge in the New York case, Judge Juan Merchan, granted a request from prosecutors earlier this month to stay all deadlines associated with the New York case, including a planned sentencing date of Nov. 26, in wake of Trump’s election victory.

‘The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances,’ prosecutor Matthew Colangelo said in their request, which he added  would allow for prosecutors to better evaluate the impact of his election as president.

Trump’s attorneys, who have pushed to vacate the charges against him completely, also backed the stay.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in July that presidents should enjoy presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution for most actions taken as president, further complicating the path forward in the New York case.

The high court ruled that presidents are entitled to absolute immunity from any actions taken within the scope of ‘core constitutional powers’ as commander-in-chief.

A presumption of immunity also applies to other actions taken while holding office, they said.

It is not clear whether a president is to be afforded the same level of constitutional protection for state convictions, however as the matter has never been tested in court.

Bragg’s office has insisted its case is focused solely on Trump’s personal behavior, not his actions as president.

Trump, for his part, has repeatedly characterized the case as a politically motivated ‘witch hunt,’ a refrain frequently used by the president-elect in an attempt to discredit his critics, political opponents, and prosecutors at the state and federal level.

Even if Trump’s convictions were to be upheld, the president-elect has myriad ways to appeal the case or get the charges against him dismissed before the Nov. 26 sentencing hearing — making it all but certain he will face no time behind bars.

The roof was supposed to open at AT&T Stadium for ‘Monday Night Football,’ but after a near accident, it will now be closed.

The Dallas Cowboys are hosting the Houston Texans in the intrastate matchup on Monday night, and the home team decided to open the retractable roof of the stadium for the first time in more than two years. The social media account of the stadium even marked the occasion.

However, things went quickly south. According to multiple reporters inside the stadium, not long after it was opened, a piece of sheet metal fell from the roof and onto the field. No one was hit, but reports said it came close to making contact with production staff on-site.

Other videos taken by reporters showed there appeared to be another loose piece of metal in the rafters of the stadium.

Not long after the piece of metal fell, the roof of AT&T Stadium began to close.

All things Cowboys: Latest Dallas Cowboys news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

‘We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field (with some additional small debris) while the roof was in the process of opening,’ the Cowboys said in a statement, according to television station KDFW. ‘There were no injuries. It is being reviewed further, and a decision regarding the ability to re-open the roof safely will be made when possible.’

ESPN cameras catch metal piece falling from AT&T Stadium

ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Countdown’ crew touched on the incident, with sideline reporter Lisa Salters adding, ‘a big piece of metal just kind of floated down and fell onto the field.’ The network later showed footage of the piece falling, with people appearing to move out of the way of it before it hit the ground.

Salters said it was determined the other piece loose piece of metal near the roof needed to be secured before the game began, which was done.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. It becomes the latest issue surrounding the stadium after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lashed out at question about the sun’s glare inside the stadium following the beatdown the team suffered against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10.

“Well let’s tear the damn stadium down and build another one?” Jones sarcastically said. “Are you kidding me?”

Now that we’re more than three quarters of the way through the 2024 fantasy football regular season, there are only two ways to improve your rosters — waiver wire and trades.

Evaluating a fantasy trade can be a daunting task. Most managers value their players more than they’re actually worth. That’s where the Week 12 fantasy football trade value charts come in. You can also check out my Week 12 fantasy rankings to help with lineup and waiver decisions this week.

The charts can be used as your very own fantasy football trade analyzer in standard, half-PPR (point per reception), and full PPR leagues. Someone sends you an offer? Simply pull out a calculator (on your phone, you don’t need an actual calculator) and plug in the values for each player. Don’t worry, six-points-per-passing-touchdown and superflex leagues are covered as well.

Important note: If you’re offered an uneven trade (i.e., a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1), include the values for the players you’d be moving to the bench or dropping within your calculation. For example: If someone offers you Isiah Pacheco, Jerry Jeudy, and Xavier Legette (combined value of 84) for Joe Mixon (66), it might look like you’re getting the better end of it. However, if you’re bumping down, say, Austin Ekeler and Devaughn Vele (combined value of 31) in the process, it’s a net negative deal for you.

Another note: The ‘1 QB’ values are for standard scoring leagues. Quarterback value diminishes in PPR formats, so deduct roughly 3% of their values in half-PPR and another 3% for full PPR (this number drops as the season goes on and people look to consolidate). For example: Joe Burrow’s value in standard formats is 29. In half-PPR, his value would be 28 (deducted 3%), and in full PPR, his value would be 27 (deducted 6%).

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

The rankings are based on how players should be valued in 12-team leagues. Players are sorted in order of their half-PPR values.

(NOTE: App users might need to switch to a browser if the charts aren’t showing up.)

Overall Week 12 fantasy football rest of season rankings

Note: These values are for 12-team, one-QB leagues with half-PPR scoring.

Just run it back. Again.

Another thrilling showdown on Sunday that pitted the Kansas City Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills was probably just an appetizer.

Josh Allen one-upped Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ perfect record was spoiled. Yet for all of that, there still seems to be some unfinished business. It was over but it wasn’t.

OK, rhetorical question: What are the chances these teams meet again in the playoffs?

“A hundred percent,” Bills edge rusher Von Miller said in the aftermath of the 30-21 conquest. “In some form or fashion, whether it’s at our place, their place, we’re going to see the Chiefs again. Whether it’s the divisional round, the AFC championship, or whatever it may be, we’re going to see the Chiefs again, for sure.”

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Imagine the buzz. When they met in the AFC divisional playoff in Buffalo in January, CBS averaged more than 50 million viewers – more than for any NFL broadcast outside of a Super Bowl or conference championship game. The numbers from Sunday’s game will undoubtedly be impressive in their own right.

So, it would be fitting, even if these teams met in a gravel parking lot. The intensity, drama and competition has been that good. So often, highly anticipated sporting events fail to live up to the hype. Not with Chiefs-Bills.

It’s always something. Last January, a Bills field goal attempt that would have tied the game in the final minutes sailed wide right. In another divisional playoff a couple years before, Mahomes led a game-tying field goal drive in the final 13 seconds of the fourth quarter, which set the stage for Kansas City to snag victory in overtime.

On Sunday, Allen left the defining mark with a 26-yard touchdown run that essentially shut the door on the possibility of another Chiefs comeback.

Of course, Allen also knows: They’ll see the Chiefs again. The Bills are 0-for-3 in playoff matchups against Mahomes and the Chiefs. So, to realize their mission for Super Bowl glory, it seems likely that they’ll have to beat the Chiefs again. Or else.

“Given our history, we tend to meet in the playoffs,” Allen said.

Then again, Allen is not quite ready to jump into that anticipation.

“We’re not there yet,” he said. “We’ll focus on that when we get there.”

And the football universe will be waiting. Eagerly.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski returned to Mar-a-Lago for the first time in more than eight years to meet with President-elect Trump. And let’s just say the reception from the left and right and everywhere in between ranged anywhere from anger to mockery to WTF?! Depending on the source.

It’s easy for anyone sane and sober to fall into the last two camps of mockery and WTF?!, because we’ve all heard what Joe and Mika have been saying on ‘Morning Joe’ ever since they turned on him in the spring of 2016, for one possible reason we’ll discuss in a bit.

Just to review, Scarborough has said during this 2024 campaign season that ‘the American experiment’ could be over if Trump wins. He claimed Trump wants to execute generals ‘that are not loyal enough to him,’ while also ‘terminating the Constitution if it gets in the way of his power.’

The former Republican congressman also hilariously alleged Trump wants to shut down ‘news networks he disagrees with,’ while ‘prosecuting and putting in jail people who disagree with him,’ including journalists. Joe and Mika had also made a habit of comparing Trump to Hitler.

The funny thing is about all of this rhetoric is it ignores the fact that TRUMP WAS ALREADY PRESIDENT FOR FOUR YEARS AND NONE OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED.

It wasn’t always like this between Trump and Joe and Mika. There was a time when the couple were among Trump’s biggest supporters in 2015 after he announced his presidential run. In total, ‘Morning Joe’ interviewed Trump 41 times as a presidential candidate, with many of the interviews blowing through commercial breaks while Trump joined by phone.

The coverage was so sycophantic towards Trump that the respected journalist Matt Taibbi, writing for Rolling Stone, penned a piece calling out the pair with the following headline.

‘Morning Blow: How Joe and Mika Became Trump’s Lapdogs; Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski should be herded into a rocket and shot into space for their brown-nosing of Trump.’

Yep. It was that bad.

But after Trump decided to choose Mike Pence as his running mate over a list of contenders that reportedly included Scarborough, ‘Morning Joe’ did a complete 180 on their coverage of the Republican nominee. And it’s been that way ever since.

So why did Joe and Mika go to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump after saying just about the worst things possible about him on a very personal level? There are two reasons:

MSNBC is seeing an exodus of viewers the likes of which we’ve never seen so soon after a presidential election, losing more than HALF of its audience since Nov. 5th. The precipitous drop comes as MSNBC’s parent company, Comcast, is considering spinning off the cable ‘news’ channel, which will likely result in layoffs and the restructuring of contracts for those who survive.

Joe and Mika likely saw that writing on the wall and realized that the only way to keep themselves relevant was to ‘reset the relationship’ with Trump by flying to his estate and kissing the ring. By doing so, Trump may decide to return to the program and bring the big ratings that always seem to follow.

The embrace of Trump likely wasn’t difficult for Joe and Mika on a personal level since much of how they’ve acted and said over the past eight years has been nothing more than performance art to provide red meat for their audience.

Truth is, these two have always been about access to power. Just look at the way they both fluffed President Joe Biden in an effort to curry favor and access to him. And it worked: Biden’s favorite program is reportedly ‘Morning Joe.’ Axios even went so far as to call it ‘an obsession’ of the sitting president.

‘Start your tape right now because I’m about to tell you the truth,’ Scarborough bellowed back in March. ‘And f*** you if you can’t handle the truth. This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever. Not a close second. And I’ve known him for years. … If it weren’t the truth, I wouldn’t say it.’

That’s beyond funny to read now. And yes, it was all an act.

For Trump’s part, it was beyond smart for him to take this meeting to ‘reset the relationship’ (Scarborough’s words) with his former friends-turned-foes. He reportedly was in a great mood during the sit down.

How could he not be? They came to him with the olive branch, which must have been beyond satisfying for a president-elect already on Cloud Nine.

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski took a big risk in patching things up with Donald Trump. Their liberal audience has already turned on them for the betrayal, if the comments on X are any indication, along with their own staffers.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

President Biden was not pictured among other world leaders in the traditional ‘family photo’ at the final Group of 20 summit of his presidency on Monday.

Biden arrived along with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after photographers had already finished with the other smiling leaders, who had been positioned on a riser. A senior Biden official said the president did not participate because of ‘logistical issues.’

‘Due to logistical issues, they took the family photo early before all the leaders had arrived. So a number of leaders weren’t actually there when they took the photo,’ the official said.

The official emphasized Biden missed the photo because of bad timing, not because he wanted to avoid taking a picture with some of the U.S.’ top rivals, including Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov or Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Biden’s absence left Jinping front and center among the rows of leaders poised against blue skies and blue water in Rio de Janeiro.

Lavrov stood in the back row, less visible.

Biden and Trudeau arrived together at the designated spot for the photo, standing and looking about for a time. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also did not join in the group photo, a set piece of such summits.

Notably, Biden did not arrive via the red carpet ramp used by other world leaders. Instead, he was seen taking a sharp right turn on his way to the gathering, declining to use the ramp which led to the entrance of the building.

The official said the president did not use the ramp ‘due to security concerns.’

‘Several leaders from high threat — from countries that face high threats did not take the open ramp and instead took a different red carpet route,’ the official said.

The G-20 summit is a gathering of leaders from the world’s largest economies, who meet to discuss efforts to combat hunger and poverty. In remarks at the summit Monday, Biden called on those present to increase investments in the World Bank, provide debt relief to struggling countries and end conflicts around the world that have contributed to starvation, including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said regulators under President Biden should quit doing their jobs to allow President-elect Trump a ‘fresh slate’ when he takes office in January.

In a letter to Biden on Sunday, Scott said Americans ‘across the country rejected your administration’s radical economic agenda and delivered President Trump and the incoming Congress a clear mandate to usher in a new era of government.’

‘Given this mandate,’ Scott wrote, ‘it is incumbent upon you and your administration to ensure that President Trump can implement the agenda the American people voted for by allowing him to take office on January 20th with a fresh slate.’

‘To ensure an orderly transition, federal financial and housing regulators should suspend any rulemaking and nomination related activities,’ Scott said.

As the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Scott said he is calling on the agencies overseen by the committee to ‘cease all rulemaking, including the finalization of any pending or proposed regulations or guidance, and to comply with federal record retention laws and preserve all agency documents, records, and communications.’ He also demanded that all pending nominations within the committee’s purview be withdrawn.

‘I will not vote for, or advance, any nominees put forth in front of the Committee by your administration,’ Scott wrote. ‘Next Congress I look forward to confirming President Trump’s nominees who will bring about economic opportunity to all Americans.’

Copied on the letter were Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Jerome Powell.

In addition to focusing on the Trump transition, Scott, who was elected as the incoming chair of the Senate Republican campaign committee last week, has taken on a role of looking to increase the GOP majority in the 2026 elections.

After his fellow GOP lawmakers in the Senate chose him to chair the National Republican Senatorial Committee over the next two years, Scott told reporters that his ‘passion’ is to make sure that Trump ‘does not have two years with a Republican majority in the Senate, he has four years in control.’ Scott told Fox News Digital that ‘what we’re going to do is defend the seats that we have and expand the map so that we can increase the majority brought to us by the Trump victory.’

Republicans won back control of the Senate in this month’s elections, ending four years of majority control by the Democrats. It is expected that once a mandated state recount is completed in the Senate contest in Pennsylvania – where GOP challenger Dave McCormick leads Democratic Sen. Bob Casey by roughly 17,000 votes – the Republicans will hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate come January.

Even though the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SMH) and the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) have many similarities, there are some big differences in their component weightings and performance. Namely, SMH allows more concentration than SOXX and SMH is holding up better than SOXX. SOXX already broke down on the price chart and SMH is at a critical juncture as its biggest component reports earnings this week.

SOXX) and SMH are the two largest semiconductor ETFs by AUM (assets under management). However, as I learned from this video at nAnalyze, their weighing rules are very different. In particular, SOXX caps the weighting of the top five stocks at 8% each and rebalances. SMH, on the other hand, caps the weight of the top three at 20% each and then rebalances. This higher threshold allows more room for a momentum run. It is little surprise that the top three holdings in SMH are Nvidia (23.66%), Taiwan Semiconductor (13.2%) and Broadcom (7.71%). The top three holding for SOXX are Nvidia (10.12%), Broadcom (8.77%) and Advanced Micro Devices (8%).

The PerfChart below shows the one-month percentage change for ten semiconductor stocks. It is a mixed bag with four up and six down. Nvidia (red bar) is up 1.5%, two are down double digits (AMD and Micron) and only one is up double digits (Marvell). Short-term, it has been a rough ride for the group.

The next chart shows SOXX breaking wedge support and its 200-day SMA with a sharp decline on October 31st. SOXX rebounded back into the wedge with a three-day election bounce and then fell below its late October low. This means the wedge break is in play with the first target zone in the 195 area. A close above 235 would call for a re-evaluation.  The indicator window shows relative performance using the  SOXX/RSP ratio  (SOXX divided by the S&P 500 EW ETF (RSP)). This ratio has been below its 200-day SMA since late August, which means SOXX has been underperforming for around three months.

What is the significance of a rising wedge? A rising wedge is a bearish continuation pattern that marks a counter-trend bounce after a trend-changing decline. SOXX fell around 25% from mid July to early August and then retraced around 61.8% with the rising wedge to 240. Both the pattern and the retracement amount are typical for counter-trend bounces. The wedge break in October reversed the medium-term uptrend and signaled a continuation of the July-August decline. A 25% decline from the wedge high would target a move to the 180 area.

The next chart shows SMH with a rising wedge, but the ETF has yet to break the October low (235) or the 200-day SMA. SMH did break the lower line of the wedge with a decline last week. Also notice that SMH is trading below the level it was trading at before the election. SMH is at a make or break level with Nvidia (NVDA) set to report earnings on Wednesday after the close. SMH stays bullish as long as 235 holds. A break would confirm the wedge and target a move to the 200 area.

Monday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander’s dominance was rewarded with the National League Rookie of the Year award.

Skenes prevailed over San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill, whose excellence over a full 162 games nearly elevated him to the Padres’ first top rookie honor since Benito Santiago in 1987. But Skenes received 23 of 30 first place votes and outpointed Merrill, 133-104. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio was third.

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil won the American League honor in a very close race, earning 15 first-place votes to edge Baltimore Orioles outfielder Colton Cowser, who received 13 first-place votes. Gil’s 106-101 winning margin was the second-closest margin since the award switched to a three-person ballot in 1980.

Skenes, 22, was a throwback phenom in an era where pitching has become more specialized and starters who last deep into games are rare. His 100-mph fastball, devastating “splinker” and putaway slider enabled him to make that rapid ascension from a national title at LSU, to first overall pick by Pittsburgh and then one of the game’s most feared power pitchers.

Follow every MLB game: Latest MLB scores, stats, schedules and standings.

Skenes posted an 11-3 mark and 1.96 ERA in 23 starts, striking out 170 in 133 innings. It took him just two starts to announce his presence, as he struck out 11 over six no-hit innings at Wrigley Field to notch his first major league win, kick-starting a 12-start stretch in which he posted a 1.64 ERA and pitched at least six innings with two or fewer runs given up 11 times.

That run earned him the starting nod in July’s All-Star Game, and he finished strong, giving up just one earned run in 24 September innings.

Skenes was not recalled from the minors until May 11, 40 games into the Pirates’ season. But 22 dazzling starts were enough to convince voters that was more than enough. Skenes is the Pirates’ second-ever Rookie of the Year, joining Jason Bay, who won the award in 2004.

Come 2025, Skenes will be a Pirate from Opening Day – he’s a pretty good bet to earn the starting assignment – and looks forward to expanding his workload from 22 starts to 30-plus, and perhaps stretching his innings pitched toward 200.

Skenes is also a finalist for NL Cy Young, and though he likely won’t beat out Atlanta’s Chris Sale and Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler for the honor, he’s already relishing what might be possible over an entire season next year.

‘It’s going to be a unique opportunity, a challenge for sure, to do that. It starts now,’ he said on a conference call after winning the rookie honor. ‘The offseason is flying by and I can’t wait for spring training.

‘The biggest thing is going to be proving it over a full year next season.’

Gil, 26, won 15 games and posted a 3.50 ERA after sitting out the 2023 season due to Tommy John surgery. He’s the first Yankee to win Rookie of the Year honors since Aaron Judge in 2017. Cowser hit 24 home runs with a .768 OPS while playing elite defense in left field for Baltimore. New York’s Austin Wells finished third, while relievers Cade Smith of Cleveland and Oakland’s Mason Miller each earned a first-place vote.

But then he left the 6-2 victory against the Utah Hockey Club after absorbing a leg-on-leg collision and didn’t return.

‘He’s being evaluated as we speak and we’ll know more tomorrow,’ coach Spencer Carbery told reporters after the game.

Ovechkin, 39, entered this season needing 42 goals to break Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894 career goals, which has stood since 1999. The Capitals star, who had 42 goals two seasons ago, has scored 15 times this season, including five goals in the last two games.

But the injury, depending on the severity, tempers that. If he falls short this season, he has one more season left on his contract.

Here’s where Ovechkin stands in his chase of Gretzky’s goal record:

How many goals does Alex Ovechkin have?

Ovechkin has 868 career goals.

How close is Alex Ovechkin to Wayne Gretzky’s goal record?

Ovechkin needs 27 goals to break Gretzky’s record.

How many goals does Alex Ovechkin have this season?

Ovechkin has a league-leading 15 goals and 10 assists in 18 games. That would put him on pace for 68 goals this season.

What did Alex Ovechkin do in his last game?

Ovechkin had two goals on three shots in Monday’s win in Utah before his injury. His first goal was a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles that beat goalie Connor Ingram in the first period.

It was Ovechkin’s first career goal against Ingram, who became the 178th goalie that he has scored against. That ties Jaromir Jagr’s NHL record.

Ovechkin scored again in the second period, with a one-timer from above the left faceoff circle.

But then he got hurt in the third period.

Alex Ovechkin injury update

Ovechkin was hurt after an accidental leg-on-leg hit from Utah’s Jack McBain. The Capitals captain was slow to get to the bench. He tried during a TV timeout to test out the leg, but wasn’t able to return to the game.

‘You hate to see it,’ teammate Nick Dowd told reporters. ‘He’s been absolutely on fire and he’s huge for our team.’

When is Alex Ovechkin’s next game?

The Capitals’ next game is Thursday at home against the Colorado Avalanche. He has 12 goals in 27 career games against the Avalanche, who held him to an assist last week.

Alex Ovechkin career goal breakdown

Even strength: 547, third overall

Power play: 316, a record

Short-handed: 5

Empty net: 59, a record

Game winners: 132, second overall

Multi-goal games: 177, second overall

Goalies scored against: 178, tied for record

Hat tricks: 31, sixth overall

How did Alex Ovechkin fare last season?

He had an uncharacteristically slow start, including a 14-game goal drought. But he started picking up after the All-Star Game, scoring in six of seven games with another stretch of eight goals in five games and finished with 31. By picking up his 18th 30-goal season, he broke the record he shared with Hall of Famer Mike Gartner. Ovechkin broke Gretzky’s record for empty-net goals and moved into second place all-time with 19 consecutive 20-goal seasons. He also improved to 129 game-winning goals, leaving him six behind record-holder Jagr.

Who are the NHL’s top all-time goal scorers?

The top 20 NHL all-time goal scorers have all topped 600 goals and Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby can join them this season. All of the players are in the Hockey Hall of Fame, except Ovechkin, Crosby and Jagr, who is still playing in Czechia.
